Racing Victoria advises that the Yarra Valley and Caulfield meetings today, Wednesday, have been abandoned due to smoke haze and poor air quality, which is unlikely to improve throughout the day making it unsuitable for racing.
Melbourne's forecast is for a hazy day with a high chance of showers, a top temperature of 26c before a change arrives from the south later in the afternoon.
Earlier report Tuesday - Racing Victoria advised late on Tuesday afternoon that an assessment of the air quality and weather conditions for the afternoon meeting at Yarra Valley and the twilight meeting at Caulfield will be made at 7.00am on Wednesday morning.
The forecast for Melbourne and the Yarra Valley on Wednesday is for a hot, humid and smokey day with a maximum temperature of 34c. There is a high (80%) chance of showers, most likely in the afternoon and evening, the chance of thunderstorms with heavy falls of rain.
With smoke from bush fires prevalent throughout the Melbourne region on Tuesday the meeting scheduled for Werribee was abandoned.
