Winter Cup the Rosehill feature

The feature of the Australian Turf Club’s meeting at Rosehill on Saturday is the $200,000, Listed Winter Cup (2400m) with 15 nominations received on Monday, including Casual Connection (NZ) and Hezashocka (NZ) who are both dual nominated for the Stradbroke Handicap meeting at Eagle Farm.

John Sargent’s Casual Connection won the Benchmark 78 over 2400m at Randwick on May 25th setting the five-year-old Complacent gelding on a potential path to the $400,000, Group 2 Brisbane Cup (3200m) on Saturday.

The Price and Kent Jnr trained multiple black type winner Hezashocka, with stakes now heading towards the $1.5 million mark after his five wins and seven placings from 32 starts, won the Group 3 Premiers Cup over 240m at Eagle Farm on June 1st. He is nominated for the $1.2m, Group 1 The Q22 (2200m).

One nomination for the Winter Cup who is not heading to the Stradbroke meeting on Saturday is John O’Shea’s Awesome Wonder (IRE) with the five-year-old Galileo mare coming off a fourth to Casual Connection on the 25th.  With 55.5kg under Jason Collett the mare made ground from ninth at the 400m to be a length away from the winner at the line.

Sargent has nominated three two-year-olds for the $160,000, 2YO Handicap (1400m), China Sea, Tokyo Lady and Vetwelve.  China Sea, a Fastnet Rock gelding, won on debut over 1400m at Kembla Grange on May 28th.

There were 22 nominations received for the race which has a capacity field of 14 plus four emergencies.

There are 230 nominations for the ten race programme.

The Rosehill track is rated a Soft 7 on Monday after 34.9mm of rain over the last seven days.

The weather for Rosehill this week is for partly cloudy days with temperatures from 18c on Tuesday to 16 for Saturday.
