What the beaten jockeys said - Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes

What the beaten jockeys said after the running of the $500,000, Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday:

Fin Horse Jockey Comment
1 BEGOOD TOYA MOTHER Declan Bates It was as good as it looked - I probably didn’t expect him to do it as easy as he did. He relaxed for me and I was able to get a breather into him and when I asked him off the turn he really picked up for me. All credit to Daniel and Denita (Bowman), they’ve done a fantastic job with him.
2 AGE OF CHIVALRY Michael Dee Really happy with him, it was a really good run. I sat off the leaders and I thought I had the winner covered but he found another gear and was too good.
3 WIDGEE TURF Billy Egan He ran well, hit the line well - you couldn’t ask him to have run any better.
4 STREETS OF AVALON Zac Spain A fast run 1400 and he’s run super. He spat the bit out at the 500 (m) but to his credit he’s picked up again late.
5 SO SI BON Jamie Kah He peeled out like he was really going to let down but it’s been a hard day to run on - he might have been better with it a bit softer.
6 CLIFF’S EDGE Jamie Mott We had a really nice run - he’s possibly looking for a little bit further now but he ran well.
7 DEPRIVE Rachel King I don’t think he’s comfortable going this way round - he’s definitely a better horse in Sydney but he ran the 1400 right out.
8 BEST OF DAYS Dean Yendall I found a spot midfield with cover but he was never really travelling comfortably.
9 MADISON COUNTY Damian Lane He ran well without any luck.
10 AMPHITRITE Craig Williams They’ve run really slick time and she was struggling at that speed to get on the bridle.
11 BLACK HEART BART Brad Rawiller Today’s the best he’s felt under me foe a long time. 1400m for him now is a bit on the short side for him now but really happy with him, I think he’s ready to show something soon.
12 DESPATCH Ben Melham If anything he jumped too well and then raced a bit aggressively with blinkers on - I think he might be better off without them at this distance.
13 FASTNET TEMPEST Andrew Mallyon The speed was on from the get go and he’s a horse who will appreciate a bit further. He’ll be better for the run and in something a bit easier.
Last ICONOCLASM Linda Meech No luck from the gate - everyone held up in the first couple (of furlongs) and that was that.
