MAGIC MILLIONS LADIES’ DAY
Excellent lead-up meetings to the MM Grand Final next Saturday. Form should stack up well next week for the huge money on offer.
MY TOP 3 TO FOLLOW
SWIFT WITNESS (race 3) – Huge improvement on debut run at Wyong. Wasn’t clean out but nailed prominent spot early and very strong to the line to post big margin in very fast time.
STOLEN JADE (race 6) – Hadn’t raced for some weeks but presented really well. Aided by a good ride but got the job done professionally under 59kg and ready to race boldly again next week.
RUUCA (race 7) – Encountered a traffic snarl from 400 to 200 metres and did well to finish so close. Needs to be ridden with patience so tempo of his races is always some concern but he’s firing this campaign.

PLEASE FORGIVE ME
INTREPIDACIOUS (race 6) – Had her chance but found one too good. Still tried very hard under big weight and racing consistently.
MARSANNAY (race 7) – Had to some early work to negate wide draw and fought valiantly in the home straight.
SHAQUERO (race 3) – Massive improvement on first up effort. Gear changes and improved fitness the key. Can be tougher again next week.
WAPITI (race 8) – Not well placed under wfa conditions but performed up to his best. There’s a win looming in the right race.
KATY’S DAUGHTER (race 4) – really in top form past few and she put in again here.
RIDE OF THE DAY
GLEN BOSS (FISTICUFFS – race 9). Horses just run for Bossy. He had his horse well back off a terrible gate in a good tempo race. Stormed late to grab the lead close to the line.
The inaugural Magic Millions Classic was won by SNIPPETS in 1987. Who rode him?
GENERAL NEDIYM won the MM Classic in 1997. Where did he finish in the Golden Slipper that year?
FROM THE STEWARDS ROOM
Following race 1 the track was upgraded from Soft 6 to Soft 5.
RHAPSODY ROSE’s rider Justin Huxtable was kicked in the mounting enclosure and was replaced by Ben Thompson. The filly was very fractious in the enclosure and will have to pass a barrier trial test before racing again.
Rider N Rawiller (race 4) was reprimanded for using the whip 16 times, two more than allowed.
I AM THE GENERAL (race 4) was held up for clear running over the concluding stages. Pulled up lame in the off foreleg.
WALKING THE TRACK
Pre-meeting there was a lot of speculation on where the best ground would be in the home straight. The time for the first race was very good and the predicted showers during the afternoon did not eventuate. Track played well.
WHETTING THE APPETITE
The stage is set for some spirited betting in both the MM Classic and Guineas. SWIFT WITNESS gained a lot of admirers for the two-year-old race with her dominant performance.
RACING TRIVIA ANSWERS
1. Snippets was ridden by PB (Phillip) Smith.
2, General Nediym was fourth to Guineas in the 1997 Group 1 Golden Slipper at Rosehill.
