The Chris Waller trained Verry Elleegant (NZ) leads the nine nominations, including three stablemates, for the $500,000, Group 1 WFA George Main Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on Saturday.
The multiple black type winning five-year-old Zed mare commenced her latest campaign with a win in the Group 1 Winx Stakes over 1400m on August 22nd and showed she was ready for her next assignment with a track gallop at Rosehill between races last Saturday.
TAB have opened their George Main Stakes market with Verry Elleegant the dominant favourite at $2.40 over Avilius (GB) at $4.60, Dreamforce $6.00, Imaging (GB) and Star Of The Seas (NZ) $8.00 and Kolding (NZ) $11.00.
Godolphin’s Avilius started his campaign with a notable fourth in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes over 1600m on September 5th. He had a near impossible barrier 15 and he was 13th at the 400m under Kerrin McEvoy, yet they came home to be just 1 1/4L from the winner, Mister Sea Wolf (IRE).
Godolphin have also nominated Colette with Nettoyer and Opacity making up the balance of the nominations which are extended until Tuesday.
There are 14 nominations, also extended, for the $500,000, Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) with Godolphin’s Bivouac and Les Bridge’s Classique Legend due to commence possible paths to the TAB Everest. TAB have made them the $4.20 co-favourites with Catalyst (NZ) on the second line at $5.00.
Classique Legend came out in June to win the listed June Stakes over 1100m under Kerrin McEvoy and Bridge has kept the five-year-old Not A Single Doubt gelding ticking over with a winning trial over 800m at Newcastle on August 26th.
Bivouac has had two winning trials, the last over 1050m at Randwick on September 8th. The four-year-old Exceed And Excel entire has not been seen since his fifth in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes over 1400m at Randwick back in April.
Clayton Chipperfield’s Catalyst will be having his first start since the Group 1 Australian Guineas over 1600m at Flemington in February after which he was spelled due to injury. The race before he had an epic battle with Alligator Blood for second in the Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes over 1400m at the same course.
Waller’s Frankel filly Hungry Heart is the $2.00 opening favourite for the $200,000, Group 2 Darley Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) , the third leg of the Sydney Princess Series. Hungry Heart was second to Dame Giselle in the Group 1 Furious Stakes over 1200m coming from seventh at the 400m to be 1/2L from the winner. Dame Giselle, the winner of the first two legs of the series, is at $3.50.
The Course Proper is rated a Good 4 on Monday and the rail will be in the True position for the entire circuit.
Sydney’s weather this week is forecast to be sunny with 21c to 26c through to Thursday and partly cloudy with 21c on Friday. Saturday’s forecast is for a partly cloudy day, 15c to 24c and possible showers with up to 3mm.
