Tightened restrictions for three Hong Kong meetings

Wednesday night's meeting at Happy Valley will be the first of three consecutive Hong Kong meetings where only staff members, club officials, licensed personnel and those persons whose role is essential to the conduct of the races are allowed to work onsite.

As has been common with meetings in Australia at various times during the virus pandemic, Hong Kong owners, Hong Kong Jockey Club members, media and members of the public will not be admitted to the meetings on Wednesday night and January 16th and 19th.

Two trainers, Tony Cruz and Caspar Fownes, will not attend the three meetings after the Hong Kong Jockey Club confirmed only people fully vaccinated against Covid-19 will be allowed on course. Cruz has had his first vaccination and will soon get his second, while Fownes is unvaccinated. Their assistant trainers will undertake race days duties on their behalf.

In addition, no racecourse cross-betting will be available for these race meetings.

Hong Kong is currently undergoing a two week period of tightened restrictions of movement and businesses due to the pandemic.
