Sky Racing’s form expert, TONY BRASSEL, checks out prospective winners after some super trials in NSW.

Check out all the trials in the Catch Up section on the Sky Racing website or the Sky Racing Active app.

ALPINE EDGE (GOLD CST 20 July, Heat 2)
(2c, Better Than Ready – Freezethemillions. Trainers: Toby and Trent Edmonds)
Upper echelon juvenile this season having won first two starts then second to SHAQUERO in the Gold Coast Magic Millions. He’s already a stakes-winner. Rounded up his rivals with flair in Tuesday’s 1000m trial romp - will soon be seeking southern spring riches judging by this domination.
TAB: Golden Rose $51, Caulfield Guineas $51

PAULELE (HAWKESBURY 19 July, Heat 8)
(2c, Dawn Approach – Chatoyant. Trainer: James Cummings)
Also ranked among the nation’s top two-year-olds with three wins in five runs. He’s a beautiful colt and coasted around in much the same position for third at the Hawkesbury session. James McDonald held him in check for the duration, yet all the chestnut wanted to do was cut loose!
TAB: Golden Rose $26, Caulfield Guineas $26

PICARONES (HAWKESBURY 19 July, Heat 10)
(2f, Shooting To Win – Anise. Trainer: James Cummings)
Caulfield winner on Boxing Day then third to classy ARTORIUS at Sandown. She’s a half-sister to the NSW country-trained ANETHOLE. Trotted around for second in a Gosford heat then let go and ultra-impressive at the Hawkesbury session last Monday. Oozes upside.
Nominated Rosehill 24 July, 2YO Handicap, 1200m

REMARQUE (ROSEHILL 16 July, Heat 11)
(2c, Snitzel – Response. Trainers: John, Michael and Wayne Hawkes)
We’ve only seen the big boy race twice – an awesome Rosehill debut win, then fifth in ANAMOE’s Todman Stakes. Will be ready to go when produced as he’s prime sire material. Pricked his ears down the running when showing them who’s boss in a Rosehill heat.
TAB: Golden Rose $15, Caulfield Guineas $26

SUPERGIANT (GOLD CST 20 July, Heat 7)
(4g, Red Giant – My Marguerite. Trainer: Michael Costa)
Pottered around stylishly to finish just behind the placegetters at the Gold Coast trials. He’ll soon be resuming after an unsuccessful autumn campaign but 12 months ago won the G3 Gunsynd Classic (1800m). Progressive stable recently landed the Grafton Cup, and this fellow will be suited over a trip, too.

TONY BE (ROSEHILL 16 July, Heat 6)
(2c, More Than Ready – Miss Portofino. Trainer: Chris Waller)
Ex-Kiwi now in the Waller stable and he’s a two-time winner in ten runs. Unplaced in a couple of Group races across the Tasman but might just rise to black type level here. Impressed in a Canterbury trial win then soft sixth to PRINCE INVINCIBLE at the Rosehill session last Thursday. Sure caught the eye finishing hard as James McDonald hardly moved on him.

TYCOON HALLIE (ROSEHILL 16 July, Heat 5)
(3f, Written Tycoon – Fiction. Trainer: Brad Widdup)
Her dad will be the leading stallion for the season going on progeny earnings. Shouldn’t remain a maiden much longer after pulling her way along the fence to win a 1030m Rosehill heat. Only a maiden yet has taken on G3 level before spelling. For the time being, easier tasks will be her forte.

WAY TO THE STARS (ROSEHILL 16 July, Heat 12)
(2c, Reward For Effort  – Writteninthestars. Trainer: Matthew Smith)
Slick performance to lead most of the way in his first trial assignment. Naturally fast, he led after three strides and, hardly pressured, did the job stylishly in decent time. Randwick winner COASTWATCH and Canterbury placed JAL LEI chased him – not a bad wrap for an unraced juvenile.

WRITTEN BEAUTY (ROSEHILL 16 July, Heat 1)
(3f, Written Tycoon – Beauty World. Trainers: John, Michael and Wayne Hawkes)
Ranks among the land’s fastest fillies with her five wins in eight runs. Off the scene since March but blitzed the pacy and proven trial star FROSTY ROCKS at Rosehill last week. She was quickly in control and gave her older rivals a galloping lesson. Effective on any going but firmer tracks bring out the best in her.
TAB The Everest: $101
