The Jump Start

TAB’s ANDREW GEORGIOU covers the action coming up this weekend on the punt while dissecting everything that went right, and wrong, over the past few days.

UNFORTUNATELY there wasn’t much to write home about, as it was one of the most brutal weekends on the punt I have seen for a while. ARCHEDEMUS was $31-$18 in winning The Gong and MATOWI landed some good bets at Kembla also. BALLISTIC BOY got plenty of punters a result late in the afternoon at the Sunshine Coast, with the promising galloper going around as one of the most popular horses all day.

WHERE do I begin? THE GAUCH never looked likely in the opener at Ballarat after attracting serious money all week. SHELBY COBRA was in the same boat as was THE ASTROLOGIST and RIGHT YOU ARE who were heavily tried at Ballarat but couldn’t get the job done. Multis, exotics and big win bets all went by the wayside. It wasn’t much better at Kembla with DESTINATION and BIG PARADE, two of the more popular runners across the country unable to deliver when it counted.

“He’s well and truly back to form this bloke.”
Co-trainer Michael Hawkes after Archedemus took out The Gong.

“She really was on the ball today.”
Willie Pike after winning the G1 Railway with INSPIRATIONAL GIRL at Ascot.

INSPIRATIONAL Girl is now into $4 favourite to win the Kingston Town Classic after being as much as $8 prior to taking out the Railway. Former Hayes and Dabernig galloper NEUFBOSC shortened from $34-$21 for the same race after being successful in the Carbine Club.

A DECENT week of racing coming up with the $1m Winterbottom Classic in the West being the main feature on Saturday. You can catch all the action from that meeting via Sky Racing Active, Sky Thoroughbred Central and the TAB app. Outside of that, Friday sees the running of the Wodonga Gold Cup, Canterbury night races line up and then on Sunday the Jericho Cup from the ‘Bool’ is a true staying test over 4600m.
