The Carnival moves to Randwick

The Sydney Autumn Carnival moves to Randwick on Saturday for three days of Group 1 racing , including four this week of the $4m, Group 1 The Star Doncaster Mile (1600m), $3m, Group 1 James Squires TJ Smith Stakes (1200m), $2m, Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m) and $1m, Group 1 ATC Sires’  Produce (1400m).

With final acceptances for all four taken on Tuesday there were nominations for other races on the ten race programme received on Monday.

The two-year-old sprinters contest the $250,000, Group 3 Widden Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) with 10 nominations received on Monday and they remain open until Tuesday.

The Snowden’s have put forward two, Embassy and King Of Roseau. The former comes off a fifth place to Straight Charge in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes over 1100m at Rosehill on February 24th with the stable trialling him over 794m at Warwick Farm on March 26th for a 1/2L win.

The latter, a Capitalist colt, was fifth to Dublin Down in the Group 3 Pago Pago Stakes  over 1200m at Rosehill on March 16th.

Waterhouse and Bott have also nominated two for the contest, Espionage and Hallett. Espionage, a colt by Zoustar, won the Group 3 Breeders’ Plate over 1000m at Randwick back in September, defeating Straight Charge and Proust. 

He was fifth to Switzerland in the Group 2 Todman Stakes over 1200m at Randwick on March 9th. He too trialled at Warwick Farm on the 26th, winning over 1200m under Tommy Berry who also rode Embassy in his trial.

Hallett, a filly by Deep Field, won on debut over 1000m on the Kensington Course on March 13th.

The Course Proper is rated a Good 4 on Monday and the rail will be in the True position for the entire circuit.

Rain is forecast for later in the week. Tuesday and Wednesday are forecast to be partly cloudy with 29c and 24c with between 2mm to 4mm daily. Thursday is cloudy with showers and up to 10mm possible and 24c.

Friday is cloudy with rain and 5mm to 45mm possible and 23c. Saturday’s forecast is for a partly cloudy day with showers and 1mm to 20mm possible and 18c to 24c.

The barrier draw for the Doncaster Mile and Australian Derby will be conducted at Randwick on Tuesday morning.
