Strong acceptances for Randwick mid-July meeting

Saturday’s race meeting in Sydney kicks-off at 11.10am when the TAB Handicap (1400m) for 2-year-olds commences a strong Randwick program.

In many ways, racetrack patrons would be well advised to make an early start as the only juvenile event of the day promises to be a fascinating contest.

Comprising of 11 acceptors, four of the likely starters in the opening event are last start winners trained out the stables of Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott, John O’Shea & Tom Charlton, Chris Waller and Annabel Neasham, giving real depth to one of the final 2-year-old events of the season.

Furthermore, the newly formed partnership of John O’Shea & Tom Charlton is not only set to saddle-up recent Scone winner Bartolf but also the newcomer Kenmare Bay — the only horse amongst 132 acceptances (including emergencies) all day due to make its debut.

Kenmare Bay is a fascinating prospect as a very late December 30 foal bought for just $75,000 as a yearling, yet by the distinguished European sire New Bay and with a stout staying profile. As such, the colt is definitely one for the ‘Black Book’ no matter how he performs on debut.
