Race:1 (555) LUGARD HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1200 m

HAPPY GATHERING shifted out at the start and brushed HERE WE GO.
PRIME STAR was bumped on jumping by ALL YOU KNOW which shifted in.
DESTINE JEWELLERY shifted in abruptly at the start despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in DAZZLING FEELING being crowded for room and losing ground. After this, from a wide barrier, DAZZLING FEELING was shifted across behind runners.
Shortly after the start, VICTORY MORE got its head up when being steadied to obtain cover.
Making the turn near the 900 Metres, DAZZLING FEELING was bumped and crowded for room inside PRIME STAR which got its head on the side and shifted in away from BRILLIANT CHINA. BRILLIANT CHINA then made the turn awkwardly, shifted out and inconvenienced DESTINE JEWELLERY.
After the 900 Metres, WON BALL was left racing wide and without cover.
For some distance in the early and middle stages, ALL YOU KNOW got its head on the side and lay in.
Passing the 50 Metres, THUNDERSTRIKE was shifted out from behind MONSTER KAKA to continue improving. Then passing the winning post, THUNDERSTRIKE was awkwardly placed inside the heels of PLEASANT ENDEAVOR.
A veterinary inspection of WON BALL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of DAZZLING FEELING immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported.
PLEASURE ENDEAVOR and MONSTER KAKA were sent for sampling.

Race:2 (556) THE PEAK HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 1 2000 m

At the time of declaration, J Moreira notified a probable overweight of 2 lbs in respect of HELENE LEADINGSTAR’s allocated weight of 113 lbs. J Moreira then weighed in an additional 1 lb overweight, resulting in Jockey Moreira weighing in 3 lbs over the horse’s allocated weight. Jockey Moreira was fined the sum of $7,500.
HELENE LEADINGSTAR began awkwardly.
PLAYA DEL PUENTE shifted out at the start and bumped TIME WARP.
From the outside barriers, GLORIOUS DRAGON and COLUMBUS COUNTY were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
After the 1700 Metres, GLORIOUS DRAGON travelled keenly.
Approaching the 600 Metres and again passing the 500 Metres, CHEFANO was taken wider by COLUMBUS COUNTY which shifted out.
After the 300 Metres, SAVVY NINE raced tight inside the heels of BUTTERFIELD.
Passing the 250 Metres, GLORIOUS DRAGON was crowded for room between HO HO KHAN which shifted in after being bumped on the hindquarters by GLORIOUS DRAGON and HELENE LEADINGSTAR (J Moreira) which was attempting to shift out to obtain clear running. J Moreira was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Over the concluding stages, HELENE LEADINGSTAR raced tight outside BUTTERFIELD which shifted out under pressure.
A veterinary inspection of CHEFANO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
GLORIOUS DRAGON and BUTTERFIELD were sent for sampling.

Race:3 (557) THE CHAIRMAN'S TROPHY (Sec1) Group Two 1600 m

KA YING STAR was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore). Before being allowed to race again, KA YING STAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
MIGHTY GIANT began only fairly.
MORE THAN THIS was steadied to obtain cover in the early stages.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of WAIKUKU, J Moreira stated that after travelling well in the early stages WAIKUKU came under pressure after the 600 Metres when the tempo of the race increased. He said WAIKUKU did not respond to his riding approaching and passing the 500 Metres and got its head on the side and lay out away from CHAMPION’S WAY. He said he placed WAIKUKU under heavy pressure in the early part of the Straight but rather than respond to that pressure the horse commenced to give ground and was not able to sprint with CHAMPION’S WAY. He added he continued to ride WAIKUKU along, however, the horse was giving ground noticeably and MORE THAN THIS was able to quicken and pass WAIKUKU easily passing the 300 Metres. He said he continued to ride WAIKUKU out until near the 200 Metres but as the horse was continuing to give ground, he had concerns that all might not be well with the horse and therefore he eased it down over the concluding stages when WAIKUKU was already well beaten. He said whilst WAIKUKU did not feel completely uncomfortable in its action during the race, he was unable to identify any reason for this as the horse returned to the unplaced saddling area free in its action. Mr J Size, the trainer of WAIKUKU, was not able to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of the horse. He said WAIKUKU had pleased him in all its work since its last start success and he anticipated another forward showing today. A veterinary inspection of WAIKUKU immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. The performance of WAIKUKU, favourite for today’s race and a last start winner which finished at the rear of the field, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, WAIKUKU will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
WAIKUKU, MIGHTY GIANT and SOUTHERN LEGEND were sent for sampling.

Race:4 (558) LUGARD HANDICAP (Sec2) Class 4 1200 m

DARCI JOY, which was fractious in the barriers, began very awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of DURHAM STAR, causing DURHAM STAR to become unbalanced and DARCI JOY to lose ground.
HONEST WAY shifted in at the start and inconvenienced LUCKY TREASURE.
U W BROTHER shifted out at the start and bumped TRADER. U W BROTHER was then bumped by PARTY GENIUS (K Teetan) which shifted out. As a result of the contact between PARTY GENIUS and U W BROTHER, PARTY GENIUS became badly unbalanced. K Teetan stated that he was instructed to be positive on PARTY GENIUS, however, when the horse became badly unbalanced, it appeared to put in a wrong stride which resulted in the horse not being able to show as much early speed as anticipated. He said because of PARTY GENIUS’ circumstances at the start, he elected to shift the horse across behind runners and obtain cover as he did not believe that it would be in the best interests of PARTY GENIUS to be ridden along in the early stages to make up lost ground.
CORDYCEPS ONE began awkwardly and then from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
After travelling a short distance, LUCKY TREASURE was bumped by HONEST WAY which shifted in, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.
Approaching the 1100 Metres, LUCKY TREASURE got its head up when proving difficult to settle. Then after the 1100 Metres, LUCKY TREASURE again got its head up and shifted in abruptly away from the heels of HONEST WAY, resulting in LUCKY TREASURE losing ground. Approaching the 900 Metres, LUCKY TREASURE got its head up when being checked away from the heels of DARCI JOY. LUCKY TREASURE then got its head on the side and hung out abruptly across the heels of CORDYCEPS ONE, resulting in LUCKY TREASURE losing a significant amount of ground. The racing manners of LUCKY TREASURE, which also hung out at its first start in a race, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY TREASURE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a series of consecutive barrier trials around a bend.
Approaching the 700 Metres, U W BROTHER raced tight inside HOT CHILI PEPPER which shifted in marginally.
Near the 550 Metres, DARCI JOY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of TEAM GOODLUCK after attempting to improve between that horse and HONEST WAY where there was insufficient room.
At the entrance to the Straight, TEAM GOODLUCK was momentarily awkwardly placed outside the heels of DURHAM STAR.
Passing the 300 Metres, HOT CHILI PEPPER, which was giving ground, shifted in away from PARTY GENIUS and in doing so bumped SUPER FLAMES, causing both horses to become unbalanced.
DARCI JOY raced greenly under pressure in the Straight and shifted ground on a number of occasions.
A Badel (HOT CHILI PEPPER) stated that after being instructed to obtain a forward position behind the leaders if possible from the outside barrier, he rode his mount along in the early stages after it shifted out on jumping. He said it became apparent to him that after the 1000 Metres he would not be able to obtain cover and as the rider of TRADER appeared to be steadying the tempo in the lead, he believed that it would be a better option for him to continue forward on HOT CHILI PEPPER rather than covering unnecessary ground. He said when he did this U W BROTHER continued to maintain its position between HOT CHILI PEPPER and TRADER and therefore he had to make a lot of use of his mount in the middle stages to clear that horse. He added HOT CHILI PEPPER came under pressure at the entrance to the Straight and then gave ground noticeably thereafter which he attributed to the amount of use that he had to make of the horse in the early and middle stages. Mr C S Shum, the trainer of HOT CHILI PEPPER, stated that he was of the opinion that a number of horses, which were drawn wide, would be ridden to obtain a forward position today and he felt that an opportunity may exist for HOT CHILI PEPPER to obtain a trailing position three wide but with cover if those horses were ridden to obtain a forward position as anticipated. He said because of the circumstances of the race HOT CHILI PEPPER was not able to obtain a trailing position which resulted in the horse being ridden more forward than he had anticipated. A veterinary inspection of HOT CHILI PEPPER immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer”.
A veterinary inspection of HONEST WAY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. It was subsequently reported by the Veterinary Surgeon that HONEST WAY was found to be lame in the right hind leg on returning to the stable. Before being allowed to race again, HONEST WAY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
TRADER and PARTY GENIUS were sent for sampling.

Race:5 (559) HARLECH HANDICAP (Sec2) Class 3 1200 m

EUROMISSILE was slow to begin.
Shortly after the start, TAKING AIM was bumped by KILLER BEE which was taken in by UTOPIA LIFE which, after initially being bumped by YO BEAUTY, then shifted in away from that horse.
From the outside barrier, LOYAL BABY was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners and then for the most part of the race travelled wide and without cover.
For some distance after the 1000 Metres, TORNADO TWIST, which was travelling keenly, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FLYING SWORD.
KILLER BEE made the turn after the 900 Metres awkwardly when being steadied to obtain cover behind YO BEAUTY.
Near the 550 Metres, EUROMISSILE became unbalanced when bumped by TORNADO TWIST (B Shinn) which shifted out from behind FLYING SWORD. B Shinn was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
Passing the 200 Metres, LOYAL BABY was crowded for room between TORNADO TWIST and FLYING SWORD which, when improving to the outside of the heels of TAKING AIM, was then directed out by that horse which got its head on the side and shifted out.
When questioned, M L Yeung stated that he was not provided with any specific instructions on how to ride FLYING SWORD other than to have the horse racing where it was comfortable. He said FLYING SWORD began very well and when a number of horses, which were drawn wider, were ridden to obtain a forward position, he was comfortable to allow FLYING SWORD to obtain a position with cover. He said after the 1000 Metres he was following KILLER BEE with TAKING AIM positioned to the outside of FLYING SWORD. He said after beginning well FLYING SWORD did not continue to show early speed and he believed that he would have had to ride his mount along after the 1000 Metres to continue to maintain the position behind KILLER BEE. He said as this would have been contrary to his instructions, he allowed TAKING AIM to cross FLYING SWORD as, in his opinion, he would have had to make use of the horse in an attempt to prevent TAKING AIM from crossing which may not have allowed FLYING SWORD the opportunity to finish off the race. Having regard to the circumstances of the race, M L Yeung was told that, in the opinion of Stewards, he should have made more of an attempt to maintain his position behind KILLER BEE. He was further told to ensure that he makes every endeavour to maintain favourable positions wherever appropriate circumstances exist.
When questioned, K Teetan (DECISIVE TWELVE) stated that in the early part of the Straight he was held up for clear running behind UTOPIA LIFE and YO BEAUTY. He said as KILLER BEE was racing directly to the outside of YO BEAUTY, he did not believe it was available to him to shift to the outside of YO BEAUTY passing the 400 Metres. He said at this stage he hoped that YO BEAUTY would commence to give ground which would provide him with the opportunity to improve to that horse’s inside, however, as both YO BEAUTY and UTOPIA LIFE continued to maintain their positions with KILLER BEE remaining directly to the outside of YO BEAUTY, this resulted in DECISIVE TWELVE continuing to be held up for clear running. He said approaching the 250 Metres he commenced to shift to the outside of YO BEAUTY and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse. He said he felt that to shift directly to the outside of YO BEAUTY, he would have had to steady DECISIVE TWELVE at a critical stage of the race and as NOBLE STEED was improving its position to the inside of DECISIVE TWELVE, he elected not to continue to pursue the run to the outside of YO BEAUTY. He added at this stage a run was also developing between YO BEAUTY and UTOPIA LIFE, however, by the time he positioned his mount to take advantage of that run, the gap had closed between YO BEAUTY and UTOPIA LIFE which resulted in him not being able to obtain clear running until near the 150 Metres at which stage he was able to direct DECISIVE TWELVE to the inside of UTOPIA LIFE. After considering Jockey Teetan’s evidence and after viewing the film, the Stewards took no further action.
REGENCY BO BO and KILLER BEE were sent for sampling.

Race:6 (560) PEEL HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1400 m

CIRCUIT HERO was withdrawn on 4.4.21 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starters FORMULA EXCEL (K C Leung). Before being allowed to race again, CIRCUIT HERO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
On arrival at the Start, it was noted that CHAMPION PRIDE had blood in its mouth. CHAMPION PRIDE was examined by the Veterinary Officer and found to be suitable to race.
SUPER FAST began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of SUPER WINNER.
SUNNY BABY began awkwardly and then was bumped by GOLDEN BOLT which shifted out.
BULLISH UNICORN shifted out abruptly at the start despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in FA FA being taken out onto ALL JOYFUL which in turn shifted out and bumped FORMULA EXCEL. FORMULA EXCEL was then bumped by AMAZING BOY which shifted in after bumping with CHEEKY PRAWN.
A short distance after the start, CHEEKY PRAWN, which was unbalanced after making contact with AMAZING BOY, was momentarily eased away from the heels of SHANGHAI GRACE which shifted in. After this incident, FA FA, ALL JOYFUL, FORMULA EXCEL and AMAZING BOY were all steadied to obtain cover.
After being ridden along for a considerable distance to obtain a forward position from the outside barrier, SHANGHAI GRACE was steadied after the 1100 Metres to obtain cover.
After shifting across to race outside CHAMPION PRIDE near the 800 Metres three wide and without cover, BULLISH UNICORN got its head on the side and lay out after the 700 Metres and then gave ground abruptly rounding the Home Turn. A veterinary inspection of BULLISH UNICORN immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, BULLISH UNICORN will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Passing the 250 Metres, SUPER RED DRAGON shifted in and bumped GOLDEN BOLT. GOLDEN BOLT then momentarily raced in restricted room between SUPER RED DRAGON and SUNNY BABY approaching the 200 Metres.
A veterinary inspection of GOLDEN BOLT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SUPER WINNER and GRACYLOVE were sent for sampling.

Race:7 (561) SEVERN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1600 m

EL JEFE and STRATHMARTINE bumped at the start.
RUN DES RUN was crowded for room on jumping between COPARTNER ERA and DAILY CHARM, both of which shifted ground.
From wide barriers, DAILY CHARM and COPARTNER ERA were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
LEADING FORTUNE was also shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
When being shifted across behind runners to obtain cover, LEADING FORTUNE momentarily raced in restricted room between HOLYSHOWCASING and COPARTNER, both of which shifted ground.
For some distance after the 1200 Metres, HOLYSHOWCASING, which was travelling keenly, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of ON EXCEL STAR.
After the 900 Metres, COPARTNER ERA was crowded for room inside HOLYSHOWCASING which got its head on the side and lay in away from DAILY CHARM. HOLYSHOWCASING was then eased away from the heels of DAILY CHARM passing the 800 Metres. After this, HOLYSHOWCASING got its head on the side and hung out. A veterinary inspection of HOLYSHOWCASING immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, HOLYSHOWCASING will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the 800 Metres, LEADING FORTUNE was steadied away from the heels of HOLYSHOWCASING which hung out.
Approaching the 700 Metres, EL JEFE and STRATHMARTINE raced tight as both horses raced in restricted room inside ON EXCEL STAR. EL JEFE then shifted out, resulting in STRATHMARTINE being steadied away from the heels of ON EXCEL STAR approaching the 650 Metres.
Rounding the Home Turn, PURE LEGEND (Apprentice K H Chan) got its head on the side and lay out. As Apprentice Chan was attempting to correct PURE LEGEND, TOYCOON, which was attempting to improve into tight running between VUKAN and PURE LEGEND, was hampered when disappointed for running between VUKAN and PURE LEGEND which shifted in before being directed back out to relieve the crowding to TOYCOON. As the Stewards were of the opinion that there were some circumstances to this incident, no further action was taken, however, Apprentice Chan was advised to ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground in similar circumstances.
Passing the 300 Metres, EL JEFE momentarily raced tight outside PURE LEGEND which shifted out before being corrected.
Passing the 100 Metres, MALDIVES got its head on the side and shifted out abruptly. As MALDIVES had previously shifted ground in the Straight, the Stewards interviewed Trainer D J Hall regarding this matter. Mr Hall stated that he had made a number of gear changes on MALDIVES in an attempt to correct the horse. He said he had considered adding blinkers to the racing gear of MALDIVES in the hope that it may be able to race more tractably, however, he had been reluctant to this point in time to add this piece of gear as he had intended to step the horse up in distance in its future starts and he felt that the addition of blinkers may result in the horse over-racing. As MALDIVES had been successful in this race and had not interfered with other runners, the Stewards elected not to place an embargo on the horse, however, Mr Hall was notified that the Stewards have become increasingly concerned with the racing manners of MALDIVES late in its races and that they would continue to monitor the horse and take the appropriate action if required.
Approaching the 50 Metres, LEADING FORTUNE raced in restricted room between ON EXCEL STAR and PURE LEGEND.
Also approaching the 50 Metres, COPARTNER ERA was shifted out away from the heels of SEIZE THE SPIRIT to continue improving.
Throughout the race, RUN DES RUN travelled wide and without cover.
The Stewards will interview M F Poon, the rider of the 6th placed, COPARTNER ERA, regarding his riding out of that horse over the concluding stages prior to the Happy Valley racemeeting to be conducted on Thursday, 8 April 2021.
A veterinary inspection of VUKAN, CALIFORNIA LEGEND and DAILY CHARM immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
VUKAN, MALDIVES and EL JEFE were sent for sampling.

Race:8 (562) HARLECH HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1200 m

On arrival at the Start, it was noted that SKY SHOW had blood in its mouth. SKY SHOW was examined by the Veterinary Officer and found to be suitable to race.
ENCOURAGED became badly unbalanced on jumping when bumped by SIMPLY SPECTACULAR which, after beginning awkwardly, was taken in by MOST WELCOME which got its head on the side and shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.
KA YING MASTER shifted out at the start and inconvenienced MIG ENERGY.
After the 1000 Metres, STORM WARNINGS commence to travel very keenly and at the 900 Metres shifted out away from the heels of KA YING MASTER which was being steadied to obtain cover behind SKY SHOW. When STORM WARNINGS shifted out, HURRY HURRY GAIN lost ground when checked as a result of being taken out across the heels of SIMPLY SPECTACULAR. When HURRY HURRY GAIN was checked, it shifted out and hampered MIG ENERGY. HURRY HURRY GAIN was then awkwardly placed inside MOST WELCOME which shifted in, resulting in TEAM POWER and WINSTON’S LAD, which had improved to be racing inside the heels of HURRY HURRY GAIN, being tightened for room. As the Stewards were of the opinion that this incident was as a result of STORM WARNINGS travelling keenly, no further action was taken.
Passing the 900 Metres, KA YING MASTER shifted out away from the heels of SKY SHOW (J Moreira) after being awkwardly placed behind that horse which shifted in when not quite clear. J Moreira was advised to ensure that he provides sufficient clearance when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
Passing the 500 Metres, MOST WELCOME lay in away from the heels of SIMPLY SPECTACULAR after being awkwardly placed behind that horse, resulting in MOST WELCOME shifting in and crowding the racing room of TEAM POWER.
Passing the 300 Metres, WINSTON’S LEAD was shifted in away from the heels of KAY YING MASTER as that horse was giving ground.
Near the 150 Metres, SIMPLY SPECTACULAR was momentarily awkwardly placed outside the heels of STORM WARNINGS which lay out under pressure.
For the majority of the race, SIMPLY SPECTACULAR travelled wide and without cover.
After the race, Z Purton was not able to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of KA YING MASTER. He said the manner in which the horse came under pressure rounding the Home Turn and then gave ground noticeably in the Straight indicated to him that it may have had an issue. A veterinary inspection of KA YING MASTER immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported. The performance of KA YING MASTER, which was eased down in the Straight to finish at the tail of the field, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, KA YING MASTER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of SIMPLY SPECTACULAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of TEAM POWER immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, TEAM POWER will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
HURRY HURRY GAIN and SKY SHOW were sent for sampling.

Race:9 (563) THE SPRINT CUP (Sec1) Group Two 1200 m

AMAZING STAR shifted out at the start and inconvenienced BIG PARTY.
From the outside barrier, REGENCY LEGEND was steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.
WELLINGTON was also steadied shortly after the start to obtain cover from a wide barrier.
After traveling a short distance, WISHFUL THINKER raced in restricted room between BIG PARTY and FAT TURTLE.
A Badel (WELLINGTON) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1000 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of SKY FIELD, resulting in that horse being unnecessarily crowded for room and losing the running to which it was rightfully entitled. A Badel was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Saturday, 17 April 2021 and to expire on Thursday, 22 April 2021 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Badel’s good race riding record.
Near the 900 Metres, FAT TURTLE raced tight inside WELLINGTON which shifted in before shifting out to relieve the tightening.
Passing the 900 Metres, AMAZING STAR got its head up when momentarily racing tight inside BIG PARTY which got its head on the side and lay in away from WINNING DREAMER despite the efforts of its rider. When BIG PARTY was shifted out to relieve the tightening to AMAZING STAR, WINNING DREAMER was taken out and then raced wide and without cover.
STRONGER was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight.
Passing the 200 Metres, STRONGER was shifted in away from the heels of BIG PARTY to continue improving.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of AMAZING STAR, Trainer K H Ting said today’s win surprised him as it was not anticipated that the horse would be able to improve such to be winning this race. He said, in his opinion, today’s race was somewhat less stronger than the races that AMAZING WIN had been racing of late. He added AMAZING STAR appreciated the tempo of the race as it allowed the horse to relax and then finish off the race.
After the race, Z Purton (SKY FIELD) was not able to offer any tangible reason for the disappointing performance of the horse. He said SKY FIELD did not quicken in the early part of the Straight and then did not finish off the race as well as had been anticipated. A veterinary inspection of SKY FIELD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Also after the race, M F Poon stated that after having to travel wide and without cover for the majority of the race, WINNING DREAMER came under heavy pressure rounding the Home Turn and then weakened over the concluding stages. A veterinary inspection of WINNING DREAMER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
When questioned, A Badel stated that, in his opinion, WELLINGTON was disappointing in today’s race. He said from the wide barrier he was able to obtain a position three wide but with cover in about midfield and WELLINGTON travelled well in the early and middle stages. He said after shifting to the outside of WINNING DREAMER at the entrance to the Straight, WELLINGTON did not quicken as it had when he had ridden the horse previously. He said he placed WELLINGTON under heavy pressure in the Straight, however, the horse did not finish off the race as strongly as it had previously. He added after the race WELLINGTON pulled up quickly, however, the horse felt comfortable in its action and there was nothing immediately after the race which explained the horse’s failure to quicken in the early part of the Straight as anticipated. A veterinary inspection of WELLINGTON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of BIG PARTY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of REGENCY LEGEND immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, REGENCY LEGEND will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
WELLINGTON, AMAZING STAR and STRONGER were sent for sampling.

Race:10 (564) HOMESTEAD HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1400 m

PERFECT TO GREAT began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped WINNING FOR ALL.
SINCERE BOY shifted out on jumping and inconvenienced ENZEMBLE.
On jumping, V Borges (PIANO SOLO) lost the use of his left stirrup iron for a short distance. As V Borges was repositioning his foot in the iron, PIANO SOLO shifted in and bumped WINNING FOR ALL shortly after the start.
From wide barriers, SWIFT SPIRIT and SMART LEADER were steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.
Making the turn after the 900 Metres, ETERNAL BEAUTY was eased away from the heels of PRIVATE ROCKET which momentarily raced tight inside ALL FOR SOUTH which itself was awkwardly placed inside the heels of BEAUTY RUSH.
After the 900 Metres, SMART FOLKS was left racing wide and without cover.
Passing the 800 Metres, PIANO SOLO commenced to travel keenly and got its head up when travelling behind PERFECT TO GREAT.
Making the turn approaching and passing the 700 Metres, SMART LEADER got its head on the side and lay out. SMART LEADER continued to lay out making the Home Turn.
Passing the 350 Metres, KA YING EXCELLENT and SMART FOLKS bumped.
The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in to consider whether PRIVATE ROCKET shifting ground over the final 100 Metres had any impact on the finishing effort of KASI FARASI which finished second. It was established that approaching the 50 Metres PRIVATE ROCKET shifted out and brushed KASI FARASI and then close to the finishing line shifted out further and bumped KASI FARASI. As the Stewards were of the opinion that the incident approaching the 50 Metres did not impact on KASI FARASI ability to finish off the race, that matter was not proceeded with. Further, the Stewards were of the opinion that the contact between the horses was too close to the finishing line to have any material effect on the finishing positions and therefore they elected not to proceed to a formal protest/objection hearing. Whilst it did not have any bearing on the Stewards’ decision in respect of this matter, it should be noted that J Moreira, the rider of KASI FARASI, did not lodge a protest/objection after viewing the videos of the concluding stages of the race.
A veterinary inspection of BEAUTY RUSH, KA YING EXCELLENT and SINCERE BOY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
PRIVATE ROCKET and KASI FARASI were sent for sampling.

General

1. 31 March 2021 Sha Tin Racemeeting – Race 8 (553)

The Stewards today questioned Mr K W Lui, the trainer of SUNSET WATCH, regarding the improved performance of that horse as compared to its previous start when it finished last, beaten 13½ lengths. Mr Lui said at its previous start some use of the horse had been made in the early stages to overcome its wide barrier. He said due to the circumstances of that race SUNSET WATCH was required to travel wide and without cover for the majority of the race and, in his opinion, because of this was not able to finish off its race. He said when successful last Wednesday night, SUNSET WATCH was ridden more quietly from a similar barrier to ensure that it obtained cover and would be able to finish off its race better than it did at its previous start. Mr Lui was of the opinion that the improvement in performance was primarily due to the horse receiving a more favourable run than it did at its previous start.

2. Additional Veterinary Reports from Sha Tin Racemeeting on 31 March 2021

Subsequent official veterinary inspections (without endoscopy) of THE ABRAXAS, ALL FOR ST PAUL’S, ELITE PATCH, GALLANT LEGACY, JADE PHOENIX, FAIRY FLOSS, DRAGON COMMANDER, LADY FIRST, HANG’S DECISION, EL VALIENTE, HAPPY TANGO, SEVEN HEAVENS, SUPER ALLIANCES, MAGIC SUPREME, GOLD COMET, SUNSET WATCH, ELUSIVE STATE and PRECIOUSSHIP revealed no apparent abnormality.
