Race:1 (19) MONG KOK HANDICAP (Sec2) Class 4 1200 m

GOLD COMET began only fairly.
BLOTTING PAPER and HANDSOME REBEL brushed shortly after the start.
When questioned, Z Purton (SUPER KIN) stated that after beginning well he commenced to ride his mount along vigorously shortly after the start to maintain as prominent a position as possible. He said he was obliged to ride the horse along continually along the Back Straight including slapping it down the shoulder with the whip in order for it to maintain its position in about midfield. He said after the 700 Metres he had to ride SUPER KIN more vigorously in an attempt to maintain its positon and after laying out making the turn after the 600 Metres he balanced up SUPER KIN at the entrance to the Straight and then continued to ride it out all the way to the end of the race. He said whilst SUPER KIN did make up ground in the run to the finishing line, he was of the opinion that the horse, based on its run today, would appreciate a step-up in distance at its future starts. Z Purton was advised that his explanation would be reported, however, in the opinion of the Stewards, there had been a reduction in his vigour at the entrance to the Straight and he was consequently told to ride his mounts out in a consistent manner wherever appropriate circumstances exist.
After the race, H T Mo (VIVA COUNCIL) reported that his mount had to be ridden along for some distance in the early stages to obtain a forward position as is usual. He said however VIVA COUNCIL did not travel comfortably at any stage of the race and after having to be ridden along from passing the 600 Metres then did not finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of VIVA COUNCIL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of GOLDIE FLANKER immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, GOLDIE FLANKER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of SUPER WINNER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SUPER KIN, HANDSOME REBEL and BLOTTING PAPER were sent for sampling.

Race:2 (20) YAU MA TEI HANDICAP (Sec2) Class 5 1400 m

JOY N FUN LEGEND, which was leaning on the outside of its stall, began only fairly.
FIRE AND GOLD began awkwardly.
From the outside barriers, BRAVERY AND POWER and ROYAL RACER were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
After the 900 Metres, JOY N FUN LEGEND was left racing wide and without cover.
Approaching the 400 Metres, ROCHFORD raced tight outside BUNDLE OF ENERGY which was awkwardly placed near the heels of GALAXY EMPEROR when improving outside that horse which shifted to the outside of SMILING SUCCESS to obtain clear running. WINNERS BROTHER was momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of ROCHFORD in consequence and shifted out, inconveniencing JOY N FUN LEGEND.
Passing the 150 Metres, BRAVERY AND POWER (M F Poon) commenced to shift out under pressure, requiring its rider to change his whip over into his left hand. After this, BRAVERY AND POWER continued to lay out under pressure and shifted towards the outside rail. M F Poon was told to ensure that he makes every endeavour to straighten his mounts in similar circumstances.
The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in whilst they considered an application from H W Lai, the rider of MOON PEAKS, for that horse to be declared a non-runner claiming it had not been afforded a fair start. Also interviewed were Mr Y S Tsui, the trainer of MOON PEAKS, and Mr A Speechley, Starter. After taking evidence and after viewing the videos, it was established that simultaneously with the start being effected, MOON PEAKS became fractious and reared, resulting in the horse losing a significant amount of ground. As the Stewards were satisfied that MOON PEAKS had caused its own difficulties by becoming fractious as the start was effected and that it was not reasonable for Mr Speechley to have deferred effecting the start as a result of MOON PEAKS’ behaviour, it was found that MOON PEAKS had been afforded a fair start and accordingly the horse was deemed to be a runner. A veterinary inspection of MOON PEAKS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, MOON PEAKS, which finished tailed out, will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned, Apprentice C L Chau stated that he was given explicit instructions to lead on SMILING SUCCESS as it was explained to him that the horse performs best when ridden in this manner. He stated that although it was felt that both TREASURE CHEST and E GENERATION would be ridden along to obtain a forward position, he was told that he had to make every endeavour to attempt to lead. He said in accordance with his instructions he rode SMILING SUCCESS vigorously in the early stages, however, the horse did not show as much speed as anticipated and he had to make considerable use of the horse in an endeavour to hold a forward position. He said whilst it was apparent to him that E GENERATION, which was drawn immediately outside SMILING SUCCESS, was showing more early speed than SMILING SUCCESS and whilst in normal circumstances he would have steadied his mount to take a trailing position, given the explicit nature of his instructions, he felt he was obliged to continue to ride his mount along for further than he otherwise would have in an attempt to execute those instructions. He added, despite continuing to ride SMILING SUCCESS along for some distance after the 1200 Metres, E GENERATION continued to show superior early speed than SMILING SUCCESS and therefore, despite his instructions, after the 1000 Metres he steadied SMILING SUCCESS to take a trailing position as he was aware that it was not going to be able to lead and that a considerable break had developed in front of the remainder of the field. Apprentice Chau was told that whilst the Stewards accepted that he had been provided explicit instructions on how SMILING SUCCESS should be ridden and that it was commendable that he had acknowledged he had erred in not obtaining a trailing position on the horse earlier than he did, nonetheless he must ensure that in the event that he is unable to execute those instructions, he must make a timely decision in races so that horses are given the best opportunity available to finish off the race.
A veterinary inspection of SMILING SUCCESS and BRAVERY AND POWER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
BUNDLE OF ENERGY and ROYAL RACER were sent for sampling.

Race:3 (21) MONG KOK HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1200 m

CLUB LAD began only fairly.
STAR PRESENT shifted out at the start and brushed STAR SUPERIOR.
Despite being ridden along in the early stages, LUCKY PUZZLE failed to muster speed and from the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners shortly after the start.
Approaching the 700 Metres, STAR PRESENT was left racing wide and without cover. STAR PRESENT then got its head on the side and lay out making the turn after the 700 Metres which afforded STAR SUPERIOR the opportunity to improve into tight running inside STAR PRESENT.
LUCKY PUZZLE lay out after the 600 Metres.
Passing the 200 Metres, CAN’T TOUCH THIS shifted out abruptly when being directed to the outside of CLUB LAD to obtain clear running.
Over the concluding stages, FORTUNE HAPPINESS was awkwardly placed outside the heels of EIGHT TRIGRAMS (Apprentice C L Chau) which drifted out under pressure. Apprentice Chau was told to ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground in similar circumstances.
A veterinary inspection of STAR PRESENT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
EIGHT TRIGRAMS and FORTUNE HAPPINESS were sent for sampling.

Race:4 (22) YAU MA TEI HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 1400 m

ADONIS lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and began only fairly. ADONIS was then bumped by SOCCER MASTER which was taken in by HAPPY HOUR which was in turn taken in by GOLDEN GENERAL which began awkwardly and shifted in. HAPPY HOUR was then steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.
GALAXY RACER, which was fractious in the barriers, began awkwardly and then on jumping bumped TARGET FINDER.
From wide barriers, BLAZING PARTNERS and WONDER WIN were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
After the 900 Metres, WINWIN THIRTYTHREE and ADONIS raced tight.
BLAZING PARTNERS had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight and after the 300 Metres was steadied when disappointed for running between GOLDEN GENERAL and EVER STRONG, both of which shifted ground.
Passing the 300 Metres, SHINEALOT was shifted to the outside of LAOS ENLIGHTENMENT as that horse improved into tight running inside MASTER GALAXY.
Throughout the race, GOLDEN GENERAL travelled wide and without cover.
After the race, M F Poon was unable to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of SOCCER MASTER. He said he was able to obtain a trailing position behind ADONIS in the early stages and SOCCER MASTER travelled as though it would finish off the race. He said approaching the 500 Metres he shifted SOCCER MASTER to the outside of ADONIS and commenced to ride his mount along, however, SOCCER MASTER did not quicken and then, despite being ridden out in the Straight, was disappointing in the manner in which it did not respond to his riding. A veterinary inspection of SOCCER MASTER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of SOCCER MASTER, winner of its last two races, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SOCCER MASTER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned regarding the performance of GALAXY RACER, J Moreira stated that when travelling behind the eventual winner WINWIN THIRTYTHREE in the early and middle stages, GALAXY RACER travelled well and he anticipated that the horse would be able to finish off the race. He said when WINWIN THIRTYTHREE improved into clear running, that horse was able to quicken away from GALAXY RACER which was left flat-footed. He said after this GALAXY RACER was only one-paced and, in his opinion, was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of GALAXY RACER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of DRAGON BOLT immediately following the race found that horse to have bled from both nostrils.
ADONIS, WINWIN THIRTYTHREE and MASTER GALAXY were sent for sampling.

Race:5 (23) TSIM SHA TSUI HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1600 m

MANAGEMENT STAR again stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost a significant amount of ground. After interviewing Trainer K W Lui together with Starter, Mr A Speechley, it was decided that having regard to MANAGEMENT STAR’s prior record, the horse must undertake a series of consecutive barrier trials, such barrier trials only being able to commence after Mr Speechley gives approval for it to trial. Mr Lui was further advised that prior to being entered for any race in the future, unless otherwise directed, he must present MANAGEMENT STAR for practice to the Starters who then must give their approval for the horse to be able to be entered to race.
HAPPY WIN WIN began only fairly.
JIMMU shifted out at the start, resulting in FULL POWER being taken out, causing STARSHIP to be crowded for room. After this, from wide barriers, STARSHIP and STAR WIN were shifted across behind runners.
Passing the 1500 Metres, APEX TOP got its head up, became unbalanced and shifted out, resulting in FAMILY LEADER being shifted out away from the heels of APEX TOP and inconveniencing WONDER EXPRESS.
After the 1100 Metres, APEX TOP received contact from REGENCY MASTER which shifted out when allowing WONDER EXPRESS to cross. APEX TOP then shifted in approaching the 1000 Metres and bumped REGENCY MASTER.
After the 800 Metres, REGENCY MASTER raced close to the heels of APEX TOP.
Near the 750 Metres, MANAGEMENT STAR was awkwardly placed close to the heels of JIMMU.
Passing the 500 Metres, FULL POWER raced tight outside FAMILY LEADER which shifted out to obtain clear running.
Passing the 300 Metres, HAPPY WIN WIN was directed to the inside of WONDER EXPRESS when disappointed for running between APEX TOP and WONDER EXPRESS which shifted out. After being directed towards the inside of WONDER EXPRESS, that horse then shifted in under pressure which resulted in HAPPY WIN WIN being held up for clear running and consequently being shifted to the outside of WONDER EXPRESS passing the 200 Metres to obtain clear running.
Throughout the race, FULL POWER travelled wide and without cover.
A veterinary inspection of FULL POWER and APEX TOP immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
REGENCY MASTER, FAMILY LEADER and STARSHIP were sent for sampling.

Race:6 (24) TAI KOK TSUI HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1400 m

GALLANT CROWN shifted in at the start and bumped BULLISH GLORY.
BULLETPROOF shifted out at the start, resulting in PRESIDENT STAR being hampered when crowded for room.
SONIC FIGHTER and ALL FOR ST PAUL’S made contact at the start. ALL FOR ST PAUL’S was then bumped shortly after the start by DREAM WARRIORS which was taken in by MIGHTY POWER. DREAM WARRIORS then became unbalanced when crowded for rom between MIGHTY POWER and ALL FOR ST PAUL’S which shifted out after becoming unbalanced as a result of bumping with SONIC FIGHTER. After this, from the outside barrier, MIGHTY POWER was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Despite being vigorously ridden for some distance in the early stages, KING’S RACE failed to muster speed and consequently raced further back in the field than was intended.
Passing the 1200 Metres, KING’S RACE shifted out and inconvenienced PRESIDENT STAR and MY FAMILY.
Approaching the 1000 Metres, MIGHTY POWER was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MY FAMILY when being shifted in behind that horse to obtain cover.
Near the 750 Metres, MY FAMILY was left racing wide and without cover.
Passing the 600 Metres, SONIC FIGHTER (Z Purton) was checked away from the heels of KING’S RACE after being awkwardly placed behind that horse when unable to improve inside KING’S RACE and when racing tight to the outside of SEAWEED FORTUNE which was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GALLANT CROWN. After the race, Z Purton stated that whilst SONIC FIGHTER was somewhat disappointing, he believed that the horse would benefit from the race and would improve as a result of today’s race. A veterinary inspection of SONIC FIGHTER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Passing the 300 Metres, MY FAMILY was momentarily awkwardly placed outside the heels of LIGHT MY DAY when tightened for room between that horse and MIGHTY POWER which shifted ground when commencing to lay in.
Passing the 200 Metres, SEAWEED FORTUNE shifted out and bumped LIGHT MY DAY, causing that horse to be crowded for room inside MIGHTY POWER.
Passing the 100 Metres, LIGHT MY DAY was steadied when crowded for room between SEAWEED FORTUNE which shifted out marginally and MIGHTY POWER (C Schofield) which shifted in when continuing to lay in under pressure. In this incident, LIGHT MY DAY became unbalanced after being struck over the nose by the whip of C Schofield. C Schofield was severely reprimanded and advised that whilst there were some circumstances to this incident, nonetheless he has an obligation to ensure that he takes all available measures to prevent his mount from shifting ground. C Schofield explained that over the concluding stages MIGHTY POWER continued to lay in and as that horse was continuing to shift in towards the heels of SEAWEED FORTUNE, he stopped riding with the whip and rode his mount out hands and heels. He said then close to the finishing line MIGHTY POWER was awkwardly placed outside the heels of SEAWEED FORTUNE. He said whilst he was not able to ride out MIGHTY POWER fully, he felt that he tested the horse as much as he was able in the circumstances. After viewing the videos, the Stewards accepted C Schofield’s explanation.
A veterinary inspection of GALLANT CROWN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of KING’S RACE immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported.
A veterinary inspection of DREAM WARRIORS immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, DREAM WARRIORS will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
MIGHTY POWER, SEAWEED FORTUNE and ALL FOR ST PAUL’S were sent for sampling.

Race:7 (25) JORDAN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1200 m

SILVER FIG was slow to begin.
GOLFMAN STAR shifted out at the start and inconvenienced ELITE PATCH. ELITE PATCH then shifted out and made contact with ROMANTIC COMBO which became unbalanced, shifted out and bumped CALIFORNIA CONCORD on a number of occasions, causing both horses to become badly unbalanced. When unbalanced, ROMANTIC COMBO shifted in after travelling a short distance, resulting in ELITE PATCH losing ground when crowded for room.
At the entrance to the Straight, ROMANTIC COMBO was momentarily shifted out away from the heels of WILL POWER which was taken out by CALIFORNIA CONCORD which in turn was taken out by ENSHRINED (M Chadwick) which shifted to the outside of GOLFMAN STAR to obtain clear running. M Chadwick was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
ELITE PATCH had some difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 200 Metres.
For the majority of the race, ROMANTIC COMBO (J Moreira) travelled wide and without cover. After the race, J Moreira stated that ROMANTIC COMBO was inclined to lay out away from runners throughout the race.
The performance of GOOD BEAUTY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GOOD BEAUTY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of GOOD BEAUTY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
After the race, A Hamelin stated that whilst SILVER FIG did not finish off the race, he believed that the horse would improve greatly for the run. A veterinary inspection of SILVER FIG immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
WILL POWER and CZARSON were sent for sampling.

Race:8 (26) HUNG HOM HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1200 m

HINYUEN SWIFTNESS was withdrawn on 12.9.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore and left hind). Before being allowed to race again, HINYUEN SWIFTNESS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
As the start was effected, MOERAKI became fractious and lifted its front feet off the ground and was consequently slow to begin.
TEMPEST EXPRESS got its head up on jumping and then from the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
INNER FLAME began awkwardly.
TRUE LEGEND was crowded for room on jumping between SUPER DOBBIN and SMART LEADER which shifted in. Then near the 1150 Metres, TRUE LEGEND was awkwardly placed outside the heels of SUPER DOBBIN when racing in restricted room between that horse and SMART LEADER, both of which shifted ground. After this, TRUE LEGEND was shifted to the inside of SUPER DOBBIN.
SKY FIELD was steadied shortly after the start to obtain cover.
Making the turn after the 900 Metres, SUPER DOBBIN and SMART LEADER raced tight between COMPASSION SPIRIT and INNER FLAME which made the turn awkwardly. After this incident, SMART LEADER was left racing wide and without cover. After the 800 Metres, SUPER DOBBIN continued to race tight outside INNER FLAME which lay out when awkwardly placed behind CRUISING.
SMART LEADER lost its right front plate at the 900 Metres.
After the 600 Metres, MOERAKI shifted out abruptly away from the heels of SKY FIELD which was awkwardly placed behind SUPER DOBBIN, resulting in MOERAKI becoming awkwardly placed inside the heels of COMPASSION SPIRIT.
Passing the 400 Metres, SKY FIELD was awkwardly placed close to the heels of INNER FLAME when held up behind that horse. SKY FIELD then had some difficulty obtaining clear running and passing the 350 Metres was shifted to the outside of INNER FLAME.
Throughout the race, COMPASSION SPIRIT travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding the performance of INNER FLAME, A Badel stated that after beginning well, he was able to obtain a trailing position behind CRUISING near the 900 Metres. He said although INNER FLAME travelled somewhat keenly in the middle stages, he still believed that the horse had travelled well enough to be able to finish off the race. He said after shifting INNER FLAME away from the rail approaching the 500 Metres, he placed the horse under heavy pressure rounding the Home Turn. He said INNER FLAME did not quicken at any stage and then was particularly disappointing in the manner in which it gave ground over the latter stages of the race. A veterinary inspection of INNER FLAME immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of INNER FLAME, a last start winner and which finished at the rear of the field, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, INNER FLAME will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of SMART LEADER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SK FIELD and LOCKHEED were sent for sampling.

Race:9 (27) HO MAN TIN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 2 1000 m

EASY GO EASY WIN shifted out at the start and bumped MR LUMIERES.
TORNADO TWIST began only fairly.
GENTLE BREEZE began awkwardly.
Near the 950 Metres, BAND OF BROTHERS and LUCKY MORE were crowded for room between UTOPIA LIFE and GENTLE BREEZE, both of which shifted ground.
Passing the 500 Metres, GENTLE BREEZE was momentarily crowded for room outside LUCKY MORE which shifted out before being directed back in to relieve the tightening to GENTLE BREEZE.
Also passing the 500 Metres, EASY GO EASY WIN lost ground when crowded for room outside MAGIC LEGEND (K C Leung) which shifted out under pressure. K C Leung was reprimanded and advised that he must show greater care.
Near the 450 Metres, UTOPIA LIFE, which was commencing to give ground, was crowded for room between GOLD CHEST which shifted in marginally and MULTIMILLION which got its head on the side and lay out despite the efforts of its rider.
Approaching the 400 Metres, MULTIMILLION shifted out abruptly.
Near the 150 Metres, MAGIC LEGEND was shifted in a number of horses to obtain clear running.
Passing the 100 Metres, GENTLE BREEZE was awkwardly placed between LUCKY MORE and MULTIMILLION.
Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of J Moreira (HONG KONG WIN), 7th placegetter, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse’s finishing position, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race where circumstances permit.
After the race, A Badel was not able to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of LUCKY MORE. He said whilst the horse felt somewhat short in its action during the race, it had a similar action during track work and therefore he did not offer this as a reason for the horse’s failure to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY MORE immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer”. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY MORE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the race, K Teetan stated that he felt that MULTIMILLION performs best when able to find the rail. He said in today’s race, due to a number of horses being positioned to his outside, MULTIMILLION was required to race towards the centre of the track and was inclined to lay out throughout. He said he placed the horse under heavy pressure passing the 400 Metres, however, it did not finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of MULTIMILLION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of HONG KONG WIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
HONG KONG WIN, GOLD CHEST and TEAM SPIRIT were sent for sampling.

Race:10 (28) KING'S PARK HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1400 m

GLORIOUS LOVER began awkwardly.
FLYING MIGHTY began only fairly and then was crowded for room between ENTRUSTED which shifted out and BLAZING BEAT which was taken in by SUPERB DADDY which was in turn taken in by STAR OF YUEN LONG.
CHAIRMAN LO shifted out at the start and bumped JOYFUL HEART. Then despite being ridden along for a short distance, CHAIRMAN LO failed to muster speed and consequently was shifted across behind runners.
From the outside barrier, WISDOM PATCH was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
CHAIRMAN LO lost its right front plate in the early stages.
Approaching the 1000 Metres, BLAZING BEAT raced tight inside SO WE JOY which was taken in by WINNING FOR ALL which shifted in before being directed out to relieve the tightening. After this, WINNING FOR ALL travelled very wide and without cover.
When questioned, C Y Ho (WINNING FOR ALL) stated that he was instructed, from barrier 12, to obtain a position in about midfield or worse if possible. He said he was asked to try and get cover on WINNING FOR ALL because in the horse’s first barrier trial this season it had travelled too keenly in a forward position and then at a subsequent barrier trial in the lead up to today’s race, the horse had settled better and finished off the trial better when ridden with cover. He said WINNING FOR ALL began very well and he immediately took hold of the horse with a view to shifting behind CRAIG’S STAR which was drawn inside WINNING FOR ALL and was being ridden to obtain a forward position. He said shortly after the start WINNING FOR ALL commenced to travel keenly and, despite his efforts, he was unable to restrain the horse to obtain cover. He said he continued to steady WINNING FOR ALL in the hope of being able to obtain a trailing position somewhere in the field, however, the horse continued to travel too keenly and was left racing wide and without cover. He said when travelling keenly, WINNING FOR ALL shifted in abruptly after the 1100 Metres and he had to take corrective measures to prevent the horse from shifting in further and causing more substantial interference. He added because of this WINNING FOR ALL was then required to race wider than had been the case previously. He said he did give consideration to allowing WINNING FOR ALL to improve its position forward of SO WE JOY, however, this would have only resulted in the horse racing in a three wide position without cover and he felt that had he allowed the horse more rein, this would not have allowed WINNING FOR ALL any opportunity to finish off the race. He said, based on the way that WINNING FOR ALL raced today and trialed in the lead up to today’s race, he recommended to connections that they consider dropping the horse back in distance at its next race start and immediately riding it to obtain cover so that it is not left exposed in the early stages.
When questioned regarding the performance of SO WE JOY, J Moreira stated that he was satisfied with the manner in which the horse travelled in the early stages. He said after being bumped by WINNING FOR ALL after the 1100 Metres, SO WE JOY travelled keenly until after the 900 Metres at which stage the horse relaxed better. He said although SO WE JOY was required to race in a three wide position without cover, he felt that the horse was travelling well enough to be able to finish off the race. He added after placing SO WE JOY under pressure rounding the Home Turn, the horse did not quicken but rather stayed on one-paced until about the 300 Metres. He said after this SO WE JOY commenced to come under heavy pressure and, despite being ridden out, was disappointing in the manner in which it gave ground over the concluding stages. Mr D A Hayes, the trainer of SO WE JOY, was not able to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of the horse which had trialed well in the lead up to today’s race. A veterinary inspection of SO WE JOY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of SO WE JOY, favourite for today’s race and which finished at the rear of the field, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SO WE JOY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
SO WE JOY, CIRCUIT GLORY and STAR OF YUEN LONG were sent for sampling.

General

1. 9 September 2020 Happy Valley Racemeeting – Race 4 (14)

The Stewards today questioned K C Leung, the rider of MOMENTUM HAPPY, regarding the disappointing performance of that horse. K C Leung stated that, unlike when the horse was successful for him on 8 July 2020, he had to make some use of MOMENTUM HAPPY in the early stages to take up a forward position. He said he was able to shift across to clear BULLISH BROTHER after the 800 Metres to race outside the lead and MOMENTUM HAPPY then travelled satisfactorily. He said the horse came off the bridle passing the 500 Metres and he had to ride it vigorously from the 400 Metres as MOMENTUM HAPPY was not responding to his riding. He added, despite being fully tested in the early part of the Straight, MOMENTUM HAPPY commenced to give ground after racing outside the eventual winner HARMONY N HOME and then was disappointing in its failure to finish off the race.

2. Additional Veterinary Reports from Happy Valley Racemeeting on 9 September 2020

Subsequent official veterinary inspections (without endoscopy) of WINS ALL, GOUTEN OF GARO, LADY FIRST, FAITHFUL TRINITY, CHARITY GRAND, MOMENTUM GALAXY, NEXTMODEL, HARMONY N HOME, SIMPLY FLUKE, MELBOURNE HALL, POWER KING, LIGHTNING STEED, ALPHA HEDGE, FLYING SWORD, CALIFORNIA RAD, HARDLY SWEARS, GUY DRAGON and FIRST RESPONDER revealed no apparent abnormality.
