It was established that after NATURAL STORM had barrier trialed on Tuesday, 17 March 2020, that horse had been treated with Equipalazone at the request of Mr Yiu. When it was subsequently identified that this treatment fell within the recommended withdrawal period, NATURAL STORM was withdrawn from this event. Mr Yiu was fined the sum of $10,000 for being in breach of Rule 50(2) in that he had failed in his responsibility for all matters pertaining to the running of his stable.
As the start was effected, HEZA BEAUTY became fractious, reared and consequently missed the start by a significant margin. Before being allowed to race again, HEZA BEAUTY will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial.

A veterinary inspection of HINYUEN SWIFTNESS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of TAILOR MADE and MOON PEAKS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
HEZA BEAUTY, TUNG WAH GLORY and TRIPLE TRIPLE were sent for sampling.

Race:5 (513) DESIGNS ON ROME HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1200 m

As the start was effected, HAPPY ALUMNI bounded and became very unbalanced which resulted in its rider C Y Ho’s right foot slipping from the stirrup iron which he was able to regather after travelling a short distance. HAPPY ALUMNI consequently lost a considerable amount of ground. The barrier manners of HAPPY ALUMNI were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY ALUMNI will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial.
Near the 900 Metres, after shifting in and racing tight with GLENEALY GENERALS, PING HAI BRAVO then became awkward inside STANLEY PARK (T H So) which shifted in. This resulted in GLENEALY GENERALS becoming awkwardly placed near the heels of BLOTTING PAPER for a short distance. GLENEALY GENERALS then commenced to race with its head up and was awkwardly placed behind BLOTTING PAPER for some distance due to a slight reduction in the pace. T H So was advised that whilst there were some circumstances to this incident, nonetheless he should exercise more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. THE WEATHERMAN, which was following PING HAI BRAVO, was steadied in consequence.
Due to the moderate pace approaching and passing the 700 Metres, HAPPY TIME was checked away from the heels of THE WEATHERMAN and GOLDEN SPECTRUM, which was trailing HAPPY TIME, was also checked. Throughout the race, STANLEY PARK travelled wide and without cover.
C Y Ho (HAPPY ALUMNI) was fined $5,000 for improper use of the whip in that he raised weal marks over the horse’s right flank.
When questioned, B Shinn stated that it was intended for BALTIC SUCCESS to be ridden in a forward position as is customary. He said however that after beginning only fairly, BALTIC SUCCESS did not show any early speed and when it was apparent to him that a number of runners to his inside were being ridden to take up positions near the lead, he felt it would have been detrimental to the chances of BALTIC SUCCESS to ride the horse with any urgency. He said BALTIC SUCCESS initially settled satisfactorily, however, when the tempo slowed mid-race, BALTIC SUCCESS raced too keenly and was unable to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of BALTIC SUCCESS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that HAPPY TIME had sustained superficial abrasions above the left hock and to the outside of the left hind cannon.
A veterinary inspection of STANLEY PARK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.

Upon straightening, TIANCHI MONSTER was awkwardly placed and was obliged to shift in away from the heels of WINNING DELIGHT which, after being shifted in away from the heels of the tiring SUPER FAST, then got its head on the side and lay in.
The performance of HELLO DADDY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. A veterinary inspection of HELLO DADDY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, HELLO DADDY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Following the race, M F Poon reported that CLEMENT LEGEND did not feel comfortable in its action during the event. Throughout the race, LIGHT MY DAY travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground.
When questioned, C Schofield stated that ETERNAL HARVEST jumped cleanly from an inside barrier and took up the running in the early stages. He said however that ETERNAL HARVEST was inclined to race a little keenly approaching the first turn when challenged by NAMJONG SINGS which improved to its outside. He added that when NAMJONG SINGS was steadied by its rider at the 800 Metres, he was able to get ETERNAL HARVEST to relax throughout the middle stages and anticipated that the horse would be able to respond well when placed under pressure. He said however that when challenged again by NAMJONG SINGS at the entrance to the Straight, ETERNAL HARVEST responded only for a short distance and then was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to close off the race. C Schofield stated that, in his opinion, ETERNAL HARVEST’s disappointing run could be attributed to it being up in class today and not coping with the initial pressure in the race due to its inexperience. A veterinary inspection of ETERNAL HARVEST immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
WELLINGTON and LARSON were sent for sampling.

AMAZING BEATS and SUPER OASIS then continued to race tight between BUTTERFIELD and COLUMBUS COUNTY until approaching the 200 Metres.
When questioned, J Moreira stated that CHAMPION’S WAY was fractious in the barriers and then was ridden along in accordance with his instructions to take up a relatively prominent position. He said however that the anticipated pace from horses drawn wider did not eventuate which resulted in CHAMPION’S WAY being left racing three wide and without cover on the first turn. He said as CHAMPION’S WAY was racing keenly, he had no alternative other than to allow the horse to stride forward and initially sit outside RELIABLE TEAM after the 1600 Metres before improving into the outright lead at the 1300 Metres. He said whilst he was able to run the race at a reasonable tempo along the Back Straight, CHAMPION’S WAY immediately came under pressure when PLAYA DEL PUENTE made a quick move at the 700 Metres and then did not respond to his riding thereafter. He added that the circumstances of the race led to CHAMPION’S WAY not being able to see out the distance of the race today. A veterinary inspection of CHAMPION’S WAY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of SUPER OASIS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of COLUMBUS COUNTY immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a deep wound to the right stifle.

Throughout the race, MORETHANLUCKY and INSAYSHABLE travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding the tactics he adopted on HAPPY FUN, Z Purton stated that in accordance with his instructions he was positive from gate 4 and was intent on crossing runners to his inside, however, THINKIN’ BIG was able to maintain its position inside the heels of HAPPY FUN. He said he had been asked to take up the initial lead on HAPPY FUN, but if he was challenged for the lead, he had the option to take up a trailing position behind the leaders. He said when SEATTLE CHOICE and then BUDDIES improved quickly to his outside approaching the 1200 Metres, he steadied HAPPY FUN, anticipating that SEATTLE CHOICE would cross down to the rail, however, when the rider of SEATTLE CHOICE maintained his position one horse away from the rail and then allowed BUDDIES to cross, this resulted in HAPPY FUN being slightly further back than had been intended. He said after this HAPPY FUN travelled comfortably and closed off the race satisfactorily. Trainer C S Shum confirmed that he had provided Jockey Purton with options, primarily being to lead early, but as he anticipated that BUDDIES would place pressure on HAPPY FUN, he had the option to take up a trailing position if that eventuated.
After the race, G van Niekerk reported that THINKIN’ BIG did not feel comfortable in its action which prompted him to ease the horse down over the concluding stages. A veterinary inspection of THINKIN’ BIG immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
