Other Comments / Explanations:

The start of race 8 was delayed due to significant lightning activity in the immediate area.  After speaking with the Bureau Of Meteorology, which advised that the lightning activity was likely to continue for some time, Stewards in consultation with riders and trainers of horses in race 8 and Race Club officials, abandoned the remainder of the race meeting at 5.38pm.

Creek Began awkwardly.

Here The Crowd Held up for clear running from the 400m until passing the 300m. Laid in under pressure over the final 200m.

Immortelle (NZ) Approaching the 300m was brushed and carried wider by Here The Crowd, which shifted out to improve.

A Book Of Days ($1.45 fav, unplaced) A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be suffering a throat abnormality. A veterinary clearance is required prior to being permitted to race again.

Race 2 LOCKETTLES.AU HANDICAP - 2400 metres:

Samual Langhorne (NZ) Began awkwardly and bumped with Upwoods.

Upwoods Bumped on jumping with Samuel Langhorne.

Fabalot (GER) Raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the straight. Rider Linda Meech reported the gelding hung in for the majority of the event, proving difficult to ride at various stages.

Seasons in De Sun Rider Jake Noonan reported he had not intended to lead, however after beginning well and with the lack of early speed he elected to take up a forward position.

Myers Reward Rider Declan Bates reported the gelding failed to run on as expected, however he could offer no explanation for the performance, which was below market expectations.

Race 3 SPORTSBET BET WITH MATES HANDICAP - 3000 metres:

All runners underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and were passed suitable to race.

Border Leicester (NZ) Bounded on jumping and lost ground. Raced keenly in the early stages. After being caught wide near the winning post on the first occasion was allowed to stride and settle outside the leader near the 1600m.

Guido (NZ) Slow to begin. Had difficulty obtaining a clear run rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight. When questioned, rider Beau Mertens explained he had intended to settle in a mid-field position, however after being slow to begin the gelding settled towards the rear, which was further back than intended. B Mertens added, approaching the home turn, as the gelding was third up from a spell and up in distance, he did not wish to come around runners as he thought he would be forced wider and so elected to maintain a position closer to the rail, where he obtained clear running near the 400m.

Rising Renown (NZ) Began awkwardly.

Farag (NZ) Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Rounding the home turn on the first occasion was allowed to stride to obtain a position outside the leader approaching the winning post.

Entitled Princess Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

Race 4 THOROUGHBRED CLUB AUSTRALIA HANDICAP - 1400 metres:

Aztec State Began awkwardly and lost ground.

Kahhof Fractious in the barriers prior to the start of the race. Trainer John Moloney was notified Kahhof is now suspended from racing until the gelding performs to the satisfaction of Stewards in a jump out. Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight. Near the 350m was steadied and shifted out after being disappointed for a narrow run between Lady In Pink (Blake Shinn) and Gifted Gamer (Billy Egan), both of which shifted ground slightly. Whilst Stewards noted that Kahhof had not fully obtained clear running, they nonetheless advised B Egan and B Shinn to exercise caution in similar circumstances. Following this incident Kahhof was steadied and shifted to the outside of Lady In Pink to obtain clear running.

Dual Pressure Slow to begin. Held up for clear running from the 400m until passing the 300m, before shifting out and brushing with Gifted Gamer to obtain clear running.

Navy King (NZ) In the early stages raced keenly in the lead. Performed below market expectations. Rider Jamie Kah reported the gelding pulled hard in the early stages and as a result failed to finish the race off as expected. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality.

Gifted Gaming Near the 300m was taken out off its course and restrained when tightened for room between Lady In Pink and Dual Princess (Damian Lane), which shifted out to obtain clear running.

Lady In Pink Approaching the winning post bumped with Dual Pressure, which shifted out slightly.

Damian Lane (Dual Pressure) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a), in that near the 300m he permitted his mount to shift to the outside of Dark Journey, where there was insufficient room to do so thereby taking Gifted Gamer out off its course and shortly after being restrained when awkwardly placed on the heels of Lady In Pink. D Lane had his licence to ride in races suspended for a total of eight race meetings (1 metropolitan, 7 provincial), with the period to commence on Sunday 7 April 2024 and expire on Friday 12 April 2024. Accordingly, D Lane will be able to return to ride on Saturday 13 April 2024. In assessing penalty, account was taken of his guilty plea, good record and that the incident was in the low range category.

Memphis Shadow Began awkwardly.

Scorch Near the 900m was briefly crowded for room to the inside of Tacito (Mark Zahra), which shifted in before being straightened. Shortly after passing the 800m was eased when again tightened by Tacito, which shifted in. M Zahra was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.

Kimberley Pearl Rider Michael Dee reported the mare failed to finish off as expected, however was of the opinion Kimberley Pearl will benefit from todays first up performance. He added the mare may be better suited with blinkers on and over an increased distance. A stable representative for trainer Ciaron Maher agreed with this assessment, noting that Kimberley Pearl was first up from a lengthy spell. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality.

Race 6 SPORTSBET SAME RACE MULTI HANDICAP - 1200 metres:

Shezatempest Slow to begin.

Precious Charm Began awkwardly and was bumped shortly after the start by Amani, which shifted in. Performed below market expectations.
