Race 1 LADBROKES SAME RACE MULTI HANDICAP - 1300 metres:

The start of the race was delayed due to Murrami Express (NZ) and Saint Tropez being difficult to load.

Red Rocketship Change of tactics: more forward from wide barrier. Raced three wide without cover in a handy position. Rider John Allen stated that although his mount raced wide, he was still disappointed in the performance, however was of the opinion the gelding may not have appreciated today's heavy track conditions. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Murrami Express (NZ) Difficult to load. The Warren/Krongold stable was notified a warning would be recorded against the gelding.

Saint Tropez Difficult to load. Trainer Lloyd Kennewell was notified a warning would be recorded against the colt. Was obliged to shift out to obtain clear running near the 300m.

Star Spirit Slow to begin.

Stalking Slow to begin and then hampered by Hesket which was taken out by Dar Legend which began awkwardly. Held up for clear running from approaching the 500m until near the 300m.

Springstreet Blues Began awkwardly. Near the 400m was inconvenienced by Hesket which was taken out by Dar Legend.

Dar Legend Began awkwardly.

Country's Light Began awkwardly and lost ground.

Italian Poet (NZ) Shortly after the start was inconvenienced when racing in restricted room to the inside of Gemini Dancer which shifted in and away from Saint Tropez.

Sistrum Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

Sharp Response Raced four wide without cover.

I Am War Laid out rounding the home turn.

Tranquil Bay Laid in under pressure in the straight.

Hesket Near the 400m was checked by Dar Legend which shifted out.

Michael Dee (Dar Legend) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a), the careless riding being that near the 400 metres, he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear, tightening Hesket out onto Springstreet Blues which resulted in Hesket having to be checked. Michael Dee's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence midnight 25 July 2021 and to expire midnight 9 August 2021, a total of 10 race meetings (3 metropolitan, 7 provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account his guilty plea, excellent record and that the carelessness was in the mid‑range.

Race 2 LADBROKES EASY FORM HANDICAP 2400 metres:

Count Zero (NZ) Trainer Symon Wilde was fined $300 under the provisions of LR57(1)(a) for presenting his runners late on course. Rider Jamie Mott could offer no explanation for the performance, stating that the gelding was under pressure from a long way out. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with the stable.

Sign Seal Deliver Underwent a veterinary examination upon arrival and at the barriers after sustaining a graze to the near hind leg en route to the course and was passed suitable to race.

Dusk Falls (IRE) Change of tactics: to be positive and apply pressure from the 1000 metres. Led and weakened from the 800m. Rider Dean Yendall reported the gelding failed to respond when placed under pressure and was unable to explain the poor performance.

Fort Charles Trainer Alex Rae was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR106(1) for presenting the gelding to race with buckled reins. A post‑race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off hind leg. A veterinary clearance will be required prior to racing again.

Carrie (JPN) Began awkwardly and lost ground. When questioned, apprentice Matthew Cartwright reported that after jumping away awkwardly and losing ground, as per the instructions he elected to allow his mount to stride forward and take up a position outside the leader near the 1800m. He added that in hindsight after finding the position outside Dusk Falls (IRE), it may have been preferable trying to ease his mount at this point to allow for some respite rather than the mare having to continue to work.

Dogmatic A post‑race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Post-race endoscopy of Dogmatic detected a degree of mucus which may have affected the horse's racing performance. A veterinary clearance will be required prior to racing again.

Jukila (NZ) Rider Billy Egan could offer no explanation for the poor performance.

All Price Began awkwardly, shifted in and was slow into stride.

Race 4 LADBROKES HANDICAP - 1600 metres:

Queen Of Rocks Began awkwardly. Rider Brett Prebble reported the filly failed to handle today's heavy track conditions. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Ayahuasca Raced wide without cover.

Gabeira Raced keenly in the middle stages.

Santero Rider Billy Egan reported in his opinion the filly did not appreciate the step up in distance and further may not have appreciated today's heavy track conditions. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Tinandali (IRE) Raced keenly in the early stages.

Barbie's Fox When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, apprentice Lewis German explained that after jumping away well and being up in distance today, he found himself further forward than anticipated.

Race 6 LADBROKES SWITCH HANDICAP - 1600 metres:

Houston Street (NZ) Slow to begin.

Winsome Voyage (NZ) Slow to begin.

Garimpeiro Raced wide from the 1000m.

Aquileon (IRE) Raced keenly in the early stages. Near the 600m was hampered when tightened for room between Fioroso which shifted out slightly to improve and Garimpeiro which shifted in slightly at the same point. As blame could not be attributed to any one rider, both Rhys McLeod and Craig Newitt were advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Passing the 400m was accidentally struck over the nose by the whip of Rhys McLeod, rider of Fioroso.

Hostar Apprentice Alana Kelly stated that after beginning well, the gelding settled closer than intended and as it was unable to gain cover and travelled wide, this was detrimental to its performance. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Swiss Hero Rider Jordan Childs reported he had not intended to settle so far forward, however after beginning well and with the lack of early speed in the race, he settled in the lead in the early stages.

She added that when runners to her outside shifted in, she was unable to maintain this position and raced on the fence which was not her preferred option. Ms Lloyd further added that on straightening, she looked to get to the outside of runners, however when this was not possible, she elected to shift back in to obtain clear running.

Remastered Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. When questioned, apprentice Campbell Rawiller stated he had not been aware of the racing pattern of the day, particularly that runners had been coming wider in the home straight. He added that for this reason when going forward, he was satisfied with settling on the fence. He added that he then attempted to shift wider on straightening, however weakened shortly thereafter. Campbell Rawiller reported in his opinion the gelding did not appreciate the step up in distance and as a result failed to finish the race off. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
