Race 4 Sweet Deal – H Bowman –½kg over 55kg

RACE 1 – Schweppervescence (Group 3) 1400m

Gin Martini – after being fractious in the barriers, bounded on jumping and lost ground.  From the outside barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.  For a short distance near the 300m was held up on the heels of Readily Availabull.

Wizard Of Oz – knuckled on jumping.

Converge – began awkwardly.

Forgot You – began awkwardly and lost ground.  From a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.  In the straight laid in and proved difficult to ride out.

Ready Availabull – slow to begin.

Saif – began only fairly.

Coastwatch – began only fairly.  Raced keenly in the middle stages.

Mr Mozart – approaching the 300m became momentarily unbalanced when bumped by Testimonial, which shifted out to improve.  Again near the 200m, Testimonial and Mr Mozart made contact on a number of occasions as Testimonial continued to shift out slightly.  When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, rider K McEvoy stated that after obtaining a position with cover in the early stages behind Tea Leaves, nearing the 900m when the pace of the race steadied, his mount commenced to race keenly and for this reason he elected to allow it to stride forward and to improve around Tea Leaves whereby he obliged to race in a four wide position without cover from that point.

Tea Leaves – raced wide and without cover until approaching the 700m.

Conrad – when questioned regarding the performance, rider T Marquand stated that he elected to take up a forward position in accordance with his instructions.  He stated that when With Your Blessing continued to race keenly to his inside, he was not able to cross that runner as his mount was not travelling well enough to do so.  He added that as a result, Conrad was obliged to race wide and without cover outside the leader and this resulted in the gelding not being able to finish the race off as expected.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be slow to recover.

With Your Blessing – overraced outside the leader in the early and middle stages.

Testimonial – was held up for clear running between the 400m and the 300m and when shifting to the outside of Conrad near the 300m blundered.

Flying Witness – shortly after the start blundered when it struck the heels of Converge due to Converge shifting out slightly and Coastwatch being taken in by Wizard Of Oz (H Bowman).  H Bowman was advised to exercise more care.  The Stewards determined that the incident was due to a contribution of Converge shifting out firstly and then being corrected by its rider and the shift in from Wizard Of Oz.  Making the home turn was held up momentarily when racing tight between Readily Availabull and Wizard Of Oz.

Wizard Of Oz – near the 700m was bumped by Tea Leaves, which shifted in.

RACE 2 – XXXX Neville Sellwood Stakes (Group 3)2000m

Avion Fury – slow to begin.

Looks Like Elvis – began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with Entente.  Raced keenly in the middle stages.

Entente – began awkwardly and was bumped by Looks Like Elvis.  When questioned regarding the gelding taking cover behind the leader, T Clark stated that he had anticipated the gelding would lead today but after commencing awkwardly, his mount took some time to show its usual early pace.  He stated that after Shared Ambition improved to his outside in the early stages and was inclined to race keenly, he believed his best option was to allow Shared Ambition to cross his mount and take cover which would allow him to follow another fancied runner into the event.

Paths Of Glory – began only fairly and from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Mr Satchmo – raced keenly throughout the early and middle stages.

Shared Ambition – when questioned regarding the gelding leading today, J McDonald confirmed his instructions were to ride the gelding with cover.  He stated that after commencing well, his mount worked forward without being pressured and he initially endeavoured to obtain a position to the outside of the expected leader Entente.  He stated that when Entente did not show intent to lead and Shared Ambition commenced to race keenly, he was obliged to then stride forward and lead the event.

RACE 3 – Signace Tulloch Stakes (Group 2) 2000m

Rondino – made contact with the rail upon entering the track.  Rondino was examined behind the barriers by the Club’s veterinarian and deemed suitable to race. Began awkwardly and shortly afterwards was crowded between Just A Jedi and Fields Of Honour, which shifted out.  Overraced throughout the early and middle stages.  When commencing a forward move from the 700m, was hampered at the 650m when Young Werther shifted out to improve, resulting in both runners making contact for a number of strides.

Zakspeed – shifted out on jumping and bumped Young Werther.

Young Werther – was bumped on jumping by Zakspeed, which shifted out.

Just A Jedi – slow to begin.  Over the final 50m, could not be fully tested when positioned on the heels of Young Werther.

Cherry Tortoni – slow to begin and from a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.

The Frontman – when questioned regarding the performance, rider H Bowman stated that the colt raced too keenly in the early and middle stages of the event.  He stated that after becoming awkward on the heels of Fields Of Honour inside the 200m, his mount secured clear running at the point, but was unable to finish the race off.  He attributed the manner in which the colt raced throughout the early and middle stages as to why it was not able to finish the race off.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  The Stewards will follow up on the post race condition of the colt in the days subsequent.

Favreau – when questioned regarding the gelding racing in a more forward position, rider J McDonald stated that his intention was to be midfield, but from a wide barrier, when an opportunity arose to obtain a more forward position closer to the rail, he allowed Favreau to stride forward and take up a position behind the early leaders.

Prompt Prodigy – rider R King was fined $800 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on nine occasions prior to the 100m.

RACE 4 – Canadian Club Emancipation Stakes (Group 2) 1500m

Oceanex – was a late scratching at 1.40 pm on veterinary advice when the mare was found to have swelling to its off foreleg.  The stable was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Oceanex being permitted to race or barrier trial again.

Nimalee – began only fairly.

All Saints' Eve – slow to begin.

Rich Hips – slow to begin and from a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Krone – slow to begin.  Rider T Clark stated that the mare travelled comfortably in the run and was able to improve towards the inside, which he had anticipated doing today.  He stated that when asked to respond to his riding, Krone did not stretch out and whilst the mare won on a Good (3) last start in the Coolmore Classic, in his view the mare may have appreciated a surface with more give in it, particularly late into her preparation.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame (1/5) behind and to have a minor abrasion to the off hind bumper.  Trainer Mr T Gollan advised that Krone had pleased him leading into today's race and had not exhibited any signs of lameness.  He agreed with the assessment of T Clark that whilst Krone had performed well on good surfaces, being deep into her preparation, she may not have appreciated today's track conditions. Mr Gollan was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Krone racing/barrier trialling again.  Mr Gollan undertook to report any further abnormalities with the mare subsequent to the race.

Amica – began awkwardly.  From a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Near the 200m, Quantum Mechanic shifted out away from Icebath crowding Amica out on to Rich Hips for a short distance.

Icebath – from the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Quantum Mechanic – in the early stages of the straight, laid in behind Sweet Deal as it was being shifted to the outside of that runner.

RACE 5 – E Group Security Star Kingdom Stakes (Group 3) 1200m

California Zimbol – bumped shortly after the start by Prime Candidate.  Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

Outback Barbie – from the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Over the final 100m could not be tested when placed close to the heels of Easy Eddie.

Brandenburg – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  A post race veterinary examination revealed Brandenburg to be lame (2/5) in the off foreleg.  Trainer Mr J Sargent was advised that a veterinary clearance is required prior to Brandenburg racing/barrier trialling again.

Deprive – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Rider R King stated that after settling towards the rear of the field, on straightening, when Pandemic and Roheryn shifted out, she elected to improve to the inside of those runners whereby her mount commenced to make ground.   She added that she was content to improve to the inside given the pattern of today's racing and after making good ground until near the 100m, became awkward on the heels of Easy Eddie at that point before shifting out where she was able to test her mount over the final 50m.

Easy Eddie – raced keenly in the early and middle stages.  Had difficulty securing clear running between the 350m and 250m and over the final 100m, raced tight between Wisdom Of Water and California Zimbol.  Over the concluding stages could not be ridden out when positioned close to the heels of Wisdom Of Water.

Pandemic – near the 100m was steadied when crowded between Coruscate (H Bowman) and Roheryn (D Oliver), both of which shifted ground.  H Bowman and D Oliver were advised to exercise more care.  Rider K McEvoy stated that his mount settled towards the back of the field with the genuine early pace.  He added that in the straight, Pandemic took some time to respond to his riding, but near the 150m, when commencing to make ground, improved between Roheryn and Coruscate and then had to be steadied near the 100m when crowded. He said that had this incident not occurred, Pandemic, in his opinion, would have finished the race off well.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Signore Fox – from the 400m to the 350m, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of California Zimbol when being shifted to that runner's outside.

Prime Candidate – rider C Williams stated that although Prime Candidate was joined in the lead by Wisdom Of Water, his mount came under pressure on the home turn and did not respond to his riding at any stage in the straight.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  Trainer Mr B Baker agreed with C Williams and undertook to report back on the post race condition of the gelding in the days subsequent.

Coruscate – a post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils.  As this was its second occasion, stable representative Mr D Beadman was advised of the provisions of AR79(6) in that the gelding will now incur a lifetime ban from racing in Australia.

RACE 6 – Vinery Stud Stakes (Group 1) 2000m

Princess Rhaenys – began awkwardly.  Raced ungenerously throughout the early and middle stages and hung out.

Personal – bumped on jumping by Impecunious, which shifted out.  Rider J McDonald stated that Personal enjoyed a good run in the event but did not respond to his riding from the home turn and was most disappointing.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  The Stewards will follow up on the post race condition of the filly in the days subsequent.

Impecunious – began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped Personal.   From a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Elizabeel – began awkwardly.

Hungry Heart – began awkwardly.

Starelle – began only fairly and in the early stage was then shifted behind runners from a wide barrier.  From the 500m until the 300m was held up behind Miravalle and was unable to improve.

Miravalle – when questioned regarding the filly racing more forward, rider H Bowman stated that his intention was to take up a midfield position, but after commencing well, found himself more forward than anticipated.   He said in the early stages, when caught wide, he initially looked for a position to his inside, but when there was no position available with cover, he allowed Miravalle to stride forward across Love Sensation.  He added that after obtaining this position, Miravalle did not travel strongly at any stage of the event and was under pressure from the 800m and weakened noticeably in the straight.  L Nolen, rider of Princess Rhaenys, was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in near the 250m resulting in Miravalle having to be steadied at that point. In assessing the penalty, the Stewards considered that Princess Rhaenys only shifted a short distance and that there was contact between the runners prior to the incident occurring.  A post race veterinary examination revealed a poor post recovery. Trainer Mr M Newnham could offer no explanation for today's performance and said he would discuss the filly's immediate racing future and report back to the Stewards on the future race plans.

RACE 7 – Kia Tancred Stakes (Group 1) 2400m

Angel Of Truth – bumped on jumping by Mirage Dancer, which shifted out.

Nickajack Cave – slow to begin.  From a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Between the 300m and the 100m had some difficult securing clear running.

Miami Bound – began only fairly.  From a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Southern France – shortly after the start was hampered by Sound which shifted out.  From a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

She's Ideel – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Melody Belle – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Passing the 500m was steadied from the heels of Southern France when that runner shifted out away from the heels of The Chosen One.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Mirage Dancer – near the 500m became unbalanced when crowded between The Chosen One and Sir Dragonet (G Boss) which shifted out to improve.  G Boss was reprimanded.  In this incident, Mirage Dancer made contact with The Chosen One resulting in The Chosen One being taken wider on the track and hampering Southern France.  When questioned regarding the performance, rider D Oliver stated that the horse did not appreciate racing tight between the 700m and 500m when Sir Dragonet shifted out and after this point did not respond well to his riding.

The Chosen One – near the 700m, Sir Dragonet shifted out to improve, resulting in Mirage Dancer being taken out and making contact with the hindquarter of The Chosen One resulting in The Chosen One becoming unbalanced. Rider H Bowman stated that his mount was disadvantaged by being forced to race wide and without cover and further being taken wider on the home turn.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Sound – on the home turn was awkwardly placed on the heels of Angel Of Truth when that runner shifted in slightly.

Toffee Tongue – had difficulty obtaining clear running on the home turn when positioned behind Spirit Ridge.

Shaaroh – rider B Avdulla reported that the gelding lost its off fore plate on jumping and did not travel comfortably throughout the event as a result.

RACE 8 – Acy Securities Doncaster Prelude (Group 3) 1500m

Rock – slow to begin.  Over the concluding stages was awkwardly placed to the inside of Mister Sea Wolf when that runner shifted in and could not be tested to the finish.

Archedemus – began awkwardly.

Dawn Passage – raced wide and without cover until near the 800m and was inclined to overrace.

Buffalo River – when questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider J McDonald stated that after obtaining a position behind the leaders with cover, Buffalo River commenced to race fiercely near the 1000m.   He stated as a consequence, as he approached the 800m, he was obliged to shift to a three wide position when he was awkwardly placed on heels and as a result Buffalo River raced wide and without cover from that point.   He stated that due to the racing manners of Buffalo River it was not able to finish the race off.   A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Bottega – briefly held up near the 400m.

Handle The Truth – a post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

RACE 9 – Cleanaway Handicap 1400m Zeyrek - began awkwardly and lost ground.

Flat Heaven – began only fairly.  From a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.

My Gold Bracelet – began only fairly.  From a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Royal Celebration – began awkwardly.  When questioned regarding his riding in the straight, A Adkins stated that after following Into The Abyss, he elected to improve to that runner’s outside to start a forward move on the home turn.  He stated that as he commenced to move out, Into The Abyss then also shifted out and as a result he was taken out towards the heels of Akari on straightening and was held up for some distance thereafter.  He added that near the 300m, he attempted to improve between Akari and Thy Kingdom Come, however when both those runners shifted ground, he was obliged to check his mount when disappointed for this run.   He added he was then held up between the 300m and the 200m before again attempting the same run at that point, but had to be checked when Akari shifted out slightly.   Royal Celebration then was unable to be placed under pressure until near the 150m, however again over the final 50m was held up on the heels of Segalas and could not be tested over the concluding stages.

Nudge – from the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Thy Kingdom Come – raced keenly throughout the early and middle stages.

Academy – rider R Dolan explained that his intention was to be more forward, but despite being ridden along in the early stages, Academy showed no early pace.  He stated that in the early stages, when holding a midfield position, he endeavoured to obtain a position closer to the rail, however he was prevented from doing so when My Gold Bracelet improved to his inside and as a consequence, Academy raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.  R Dolan added that Academy also races best when there is a surface with more give in it.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
