Supplementary report:

Royal Randwick Barrier Trials Thursday 8 February 2024

Elemental(trainer J. O'Shea) – Following the trial it was identified that the gelding had blood present at both nostrils. A veterinary inspection revealed that the blood present was due to nasal abrasions and an endoscopic examination performed on Elemental confirmed that the blood did not emanate from the lungs. Acting on this veterinary advice Elemental was not deemed to be a bleeder under the provisions of AR79(4).

RACE 1: Midway Handicap 1600m:

Monfelicity– Laid out over the final 400m.

Invincible Legend– Began only fairly.

Decadent Tale– Prior to the declaration of correct weight Stewards viewed the official photo finish image on behalf of connections of the mare. When Stewards were satisfied that there was a margin between Decadent Tale and the winner, Invincible Legend, correct weight was declared. On jumping shifted in and bumped Piraeus. Held up for clear running in the early part of the straight.

Our Maryanne– Began only fairly. When questioned J. Parr reported that from the 600m he was trailing the eventual winner, Invincible Legend, and positioned to the inside of Piraeus. He added that he was held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn and had to wait until Invincible Legend shifted out to enable him to place Our Maryanne under pressure. He said that after obtaining clear running on straightening he was able to place Our Maryanne under some pressure, however, due to Piraeus remaining to his outside and his mount still being positioned behind Invincible Legend, he was unable to apply full pressure to the mare in the home straight.

Cirebon– Shortly after the start was bumped on the hindquarter by Rapid Outlaw, which shifted in. R. Jones reported that the mare, which was backing up from 2 February, travelled well after obtaining the lead, however, in his opinion did not appreciate the Soft (6) racing surface and may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Ms S. Ryan advised that Cirebon had pleased the stable since its last run and a good showing was anticipated. She advised that having regard to the performance, the mare will now be spelled.

Piraeus– On jumping shifted out and made contact with Decadent Tale.

Rapid Outlaw– Shortly after the start shifted in and bumped Cirebon. Raced wide and without cover from the 1100m.

RACE 2: Darley Lonhro Plate 1000m:

Anode– Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

The Three Hundred– Raced greenly in the middle stages and was inclined to lay out rounding the home turn.

Capital Dancer– Near the 300m shifted in and away from Froebel Star and as a result had to be corrected out and away from the heels of Mrs Maree. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities apart from a small corneal laceration to the left eye.

Castanya– Shortly after the start was bumped on the hindquarter by Celerity, which shifted out. From a wide barrier Castanya then was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Celerity– As the start was effected turned its head and, as a consequence, lost ground (2L). Raced keenly at the rear of the field through the early and middle stages.

La Roja– Began awkwardly.

Mrs Maree– A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame (2/5) in the near-foreleg. Trainer Mr C. Conners was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required before Mrs Maree is permitted to race/barrier trial again.

RACE 3: Inglis Classic Yearling Sale 11-13 Feb Handicap 1600m:

Super Chilled– On jumping was bumped by Hell Hath No Fury, which shifted out. From a wide barrier Super Chilled then was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Near the 1200m shifted in and made contact with Hell Hath No Fury when endeavouring to obtain a position behind Ceerseven. When unable to obtain cover Super Chilled then was eased to the rear of the field near the 1000m where the mare obtained cover behind Hell Hath No Fury.

Hell Hath No Fury– Near the 1200m was bumped by Super Chilled when that runner shifted in. J. Collett reported that it was his intention to settle in a more-forward position, however, after beginning only fairly and making contact with Super Chilled his mount then did not muster sufficient speed to hold a prominent position. He said that as a result, Hell Hath No Fury settled behind midfield.

Infinitive– From the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Held up for clear running from the 400m until passing the 200m.

RACE 4: TAB Highway Handicap 1200m:

Overlord – Began awkwardly. Raced very wide and without cover throughout the event.

Wiggles – Passing the 300m became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarter by Rapbidash.

Belvedere Boys – Passing the 800m was checked from the heels of Miss Stalwart when that runner lost ground. A. Hyeronimus reported that it was his intention to settle in a prominent position, however, after being slow to begin his mount settled at the rear of the field.

Outback Ringer – On jumping shifted in and made contact with Sharp Shock.

Scopics – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Melody Again – R. Bayliss reported that although obliged to race wide, the mare had cover from the 700m. He said that Melody Again did not respond to his riding in the straight and was disappointing in the manner in which it closed off the race. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Mr Wallace – On jumping shifted out and made contact with Rapbidash.

Nipotino – Near the 700m when racing keenly was steadied and shifted out from the heels of Super Norwest, which was being steadied.

Rapbidash – On jumping was crowded for room between Super Norwest and Mr Wallace, both of which shifted ground. Approaching the 300m endeavoured to improve between Wiggles and Overlord, however, passing the 300m was disappointed for this run due to Overlord shifting out. In this incident Rapbidash made contact with the hindquarter of Wiggles.

Sharp Shock – On jumping shifted out and made contact with Outback Ringer, then shifted in and made contact with British Statesman. Sharp Shock then was shifted behind runners. Passing the 800m was checked from the heels of Miss Stalwart when that runner lost ground.

British Statesman – Shortly after the start was bumped on the hindquarter by Sharp Shock. Raced wide and without cover from the 700m.

Super Norwest – On jumping shifted in and made contact with Rapbidash. Near the 700m was steadied from the heels of Shine Your Light when overracing.

Airliner – T. Berry was permitted to ride the gelding a half kilogram over its allotted weight of 54.5kgs. After being restless in the barriers was slow to begin. Near the 800m, when racing keenly, was steadied to avoid the heels of Rapbidash when that runner shifted in slightly after being bumped on the hindquarter by Miss Stalwart.

Miss Stalwart – M. McGuren (Wiggles) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that near the 800m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Miss Stalwart, which was crowded, got its head up and lost ground. M. McGuren’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 18 February 2024 and to expire on Saturday 24 February 2024, on which day he may ride. Held up from the 400m and passing the 200m was steadied when disappointed for a run between Melody Again and Wiggles, which shifted out.

RACE 5: The Westmead Institute for Medical Research Handicap 1300m:

French Bonnet– Near the 350m was inconvenienced by Howgoodareyou, which drifted out.

Dakota Vroom– From the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Afterlight– On jumping shifted out and made contact with Gently Rolled. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer Mr C. Waller was advised of the provisions of AR79(4).

Gently Rolled– Trainer Mr B. Heys pleaded guilty to a charge under AR99(1)(a) in that he presented Po Kare Kare to the racecourse instead of Gently Rolled. Mr Heys alerted Stewards to this error prior to the horse being inspected by Stewards and was able to immediately arrange for the transportation of Gently Rolled to arrive on course within a reasonable period of time. Stewards accepted Mr Heys’ evidence that the error had occurred due to a breakdown in communications with stable staff. Mr Heys was fined $500.  Bumped by Afterlight, which shifted out on jumping.

Celestial Spirit– From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

RACE 6: Silverdale Farm Eskimo Prince Stakes 1200m:

Griff– When questioned B. Melham reported that after obtaining the lead the colt travelled well throughout the early and middle stages. He said, however, that when challenged by Moravia rounding the home turn Griff came under pressure and then did not close off in the straight as expected. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stewards will follow up on the post-race condition.

Tom Kitten– Began awkwardly.

Encap– Bumped on jumping by Moravia, which shifted in.

Caballus– Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

Moravia– On jumping shifted in and made contact with Encap.

Celestial Legend– Began only fairly.

Makarena– T. Clark reported that it was hoped Makarena would be able to settle in a prominent position. He said, however, that the filly did not begin well from the outside barrier and after travelling a short distance he identified the risk of being caught wide, therefore, he elected to steady his mount to obtain cover further back in the field.

RACE 7: Inglis Millennium 1100m:

Odinson– Approaching the 300m shifted in and bumped Beer Baron. Near the 150m was bumped on the hindquarter and became unbalanced when El Morzillo was endeavouring to improve to its outside.

Stewards ruled that all moneys invested on Cerons be refunded in full and that all successful wagers made prior to 4.05pm be subject to the following cents in the dollar deductions from the face value of each ticket:

1st Fully Lit                         3¢, 3¢

2nd Rue De Royale

3rd Rag Queen

Trainer Mr B. Cavanough was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to Cerons having to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before being permitted to race again.

Trunk– On jumping was bumped by Rag Queen, which shifted in. Over the concluding stages was hampered by El Morzillo, which shifted out. T. Clark reported that the colt raced too keenly in the lead and, as a consequence, was left without a finishing effort.

Thundering Soul– Near the 700m laid in and was steadied from the heels of  Odinson. Over the concluding stages laid in towards the heels of Zestiman and, as a consequence, was not able to be fully tested.

Amor Victorious– Trainer B. Baker was fined $500 for failing to adhere to the provisions of LR25A by having a firm engagement for a rider to ride the horse at 52kgs when claiming true weight. Stewards subsequently gave approval on Friday 9 February 2024 for T. Sherry to ride Amor Victorious 1kg overweight.

Floating– R. Jones reported that he was instructed to ride the gelding a little further forward and he anticipated this would be in a midfield position. He added, however, that when caught very wide in the early stages he allowed Floating to stride forward, whereby the gelding settled on pace outside the leader near the 1100m.
