There have been a fair share of crusty trainers to have called Caulfield home over the years and although Mick Price grew up among many of them, he's surely going the other way.
On Thursday, Price was reflecting on how he and co-trainer Michael Kent Junior had been thrilled with their first full season's work together with the pair last week finishing fourth overall in Victoria on 113 wins and fourth in Melbourne on 30 wins.
He said Kent Jnr had proven invaluable, as had the recent addition to the riding ranks of freelance jockey Jamie Kah, who is doing more riding for the yard and is impressing each time she does.
"She did a few gallops for me yesterday morning at Sandown and I love the way horses travel for her in the run," Price said.
"They don't throw their head around. She's got beautiful hands and balance and the horses work themselves in races and they hardly know she's on them."
Kent Jnr, however, seems to have made the biggest impression.
"He's been a bonus for the stable," Price said. "You wouldn't find a more enthusiastic, professional, well-mannered young man and I even find myself saying please and thank you a bit more now."
