LATE RIDING CHANGES:

As A Morgan was indisposed due to illness, Stewards permitted the following riding substitutions:

RACE 1:  Club Macquarie 2YO Handicap 1400m

Booshang – Slow to begin.

 

Mist Of Battle – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Inclined to hang out rounding the turn from the 800m until straightening.

 

Pinky – When the tempo slowed near the 900m commenced to overrace and had to be checked from the heels of Donnacan.

 

Grange Rock Star – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

 

Zouson Boy – When questioned regarding his riding in the early stages, J Van Overmeire stated he was instructed to race prominently and not to interrupt his mount’s momentum, as it has a long stride and has previously shown a tendency to overrace and get its head up when ridden with cover.  He stated that on jumping his mount bounded and lost ground and he immediately shifted it wider to give himself the option to improve forward if the tempo was slow.  He added that, after the tempo was genuine in the early stages, he attempted to secure cover trailing Pinky passing the 1000m, however, when the tempo commenced to slow shortly after he elected to remain in a three wide position and allow his mount to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leaders near the 700m, where his mount travelled comfortably during the middle stages.


 

 

RACE 2:  The Mex Club Maiden Plate 1400m

The Replicant – Began awkwardly.

 

Passion Play – Slow to begin.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

Buoyant – Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the race.

RACE 3:  East Maitland Bowling Club 3YO&Up Maiden Handicap 1200m

Beppe – Began awkwardly.  Raced keenly in the lead throughout the early and middle stages.

 

I Am Geronimo – Began awkwardly, bumped Jasiri and lost ground as a consequence.  Raced ungenerously in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover trailing Thrill Of Brazil.

 

Jasiri – On jumping was bumped by I Am Geronimo, then raced keenly in the early stages when being shifted behind runners from the outside barrier.

 

Makanui – Raced keenly in the early stages.

 

RACE 4:  The Wests Group Class 1 Handicap 1500m

Unforgiven – Stewards permitted A Bullock to ride the gelding 1kg over its allotted weight of 57kg.  Began awkwardly.  Prior to the declaration of correct it was identified that A Bullock, rider of the first placed Unforgiven, had used his whip on 10 occasions prior to the 100m (5 more than permitted by the rule).  When Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that Unforgiven had gained an advantage that resulted in it finishing in first place, in accordance with AR221(2) they declined to exercise their powers under AR132(10) and did not proceed with a formal protest.  At a subsequent inquiry A Bullock pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on 10 occasions prior to the 100m (5 more prior than permitted by the rule).  A Bullock was fined $200. In assessing penalty, Stewards were mindful that this was A Bullock’s first breach of the rule since November 2017.

 

Successful Star – Stewards permitted A Gibbons to ride the filly 0.5kg over its allotted weight of 55kg.  Overraced throughout the early and middle stages and, as a consequence, raced wide and without cover from the 700m.

 

Redente Choice – Slow to begin.  When caught wide and without cover in the early stages was allowed to stride forward by its rider to take up a position outside the leader, Unforgiven, near the 1000m.

 

Beenvane – Slow to begin.


 

 

RACE 5:  Club Charlestown Maiden Plate 900m

Tailwinds – Stewards permitted M Bell to ride the filly 1kg over its allotted weight of 55kg.  Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

 

Uconic – The mare was declared a late scratching at 12.52pm on veterinary advice after it was fractious in the float en route to the course, struck its head and was found to have blood present in its near-side nostril.  Trainer Mr B Hill was told he would be required to furnish a veterinary clearance prior to Uconic barrier trialling or racing again.

 

My Naughty Boy – Slow to begin.

 

Headwall – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

 

Missiles Armed – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

 

Pagato – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

RACE 6:  Belmont 16S Benchmark 64 Handicap 1850m

Zounique – Slow to begin.

 

Credit Crunch – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

 

Tip Top Timing – Rider J Penza reported that his mount failed to handle the heavy track conditions.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

RACE 7:  Toronto Workers Club Benchmark 64 Handicap 1200m

Gold Bracelet – Began awkwardly.  When questioned regarding the performance, rider G Buckley stated that his mount travelled well in a position outside the leader throughout the early and middle stages, however, when placed under pressure from the 500m, his mount failed to respond to his riding and, in his opinion, it failed to handle the heavy track conditions.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

Highly Ambitious –When questioned regarding the performance, rider A Gibbons stated that he was instructed to race prominently, however, after being slow to begin, he was obliged to settle at the rear of the field.  He stated that his mount never travelled comfortably at any stage of the race and, in his opinion, failed to handle the heavy track conditions.  He added that he had recommended to connections to add blinkers to the filly’s gear.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 8:  Beresfield Bowling Club Conditional Benchmark 68 Handicap 1400m

Stay Wealthy – When questioned regarding the performance, App. E Hennessy stated her mount never travelled well throughout the race and, in her opinion, failed to handle the heavy track conditions.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be slow to recover.

Following the postponement of the Rosehill meeting at 1.45pm, the race start times for this meeting were amended as follows:

 

Race 5:  2.35pm

Race 6:  3.15pm

Race 7:  3.50pm

Race 8:  4.30pm

Summary of whip use:

Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR132(7)(a)(ii).  Bearing in mind the totality of whip use, no action was taken.
