LATE RIDING CHANGES:

As A Bullock was indisposed, Stewards permitted the following riding substitutions:

Race 2 C Lever on Poseidon Ruler
Race 8 L Magorrian on Herzegovina

As M Bell was stood down by the Club's Medical Officer following race 1, Stewards permitted the following riding substitutions:

Race 3 C Reith on Pay Me
Race 7 L Magorrian on Hybrid Theory
Race 8 C Lever on Midsummer Rain

M Bell was advised he must produce a medical certificate prior to riding again.

 

LATE RIDING DECLARATION

Trainer Mr G Allard was fined $200 under LR35(2) for the late declaration of riders as follows:

Race 3 J Taylor on Rubielie

RACE 1:  Engagevr Prov & Ctry Maiden Handicap 1200m

Finding Alice – Slow to begin and shortly after was hampered by Interviewed, which shifted out.  Rounding the home turn was momentarily held up for clear running behind the weakening Interviewed.

 

Interviewed – Began awkwardly.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.  Trainer Mr D Wagstaff undertook to have the gelding undergo an endoscopic examination on return to his stables, the results of which he will report to the Stewards.

 

Manoeuvre – Slow to begin.  Passing the 300m became unbalanced when bumped by Finding Alice, which shifted out.

 

Members Only – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

 

Our Little Louie – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be slow to recover.

 

RACE 2:  Webber Architects 3YO Maiden Handicap 900m

Ballistic Moon – Slow to begin.

 

Epauvescent – Jumped awkwardly.

 

Poseidon Ruler – After being slow to begin, was crowded by French Marine, which shifted out on jumping.  Passing the 150m when attempting to secure a run to the outside of Girls Get Paid, had to be eased from the heels of that runner, which shifted out abruptly.

 

French Marine – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

RACE 3:  Hotel Forster Maiden Handicap 1400m

Iconically – On jumping was bumped by Pay Me.  Raced ungenerously in the early stages when being restrained to obtain a position with cover trailing Chestnut Scaffa and got its head up on a number of occasions approaching the 1000m.

 

Manco Man – Jumped awkwardly.

 

Contract Signed – Slow to begin.  Held up for clear running between the 400m to the 300m and then commenced to lay in under pressure.

 

Chestnut Scaffa – Slow to begin.  Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

 

Rubielie – Inclined to hang in throughout the early and middle stages when racing wide and without cover and passing the 600m had to be steadied from the heels of Chestnut Scaff, which shifted out slightly.  Rubielie then continued to hang in rounding the home turn and in the home straight proved difficult to ride out.

 

Pay Me – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.  Stewards will follow up on the post-race condition of the gelding.

RACE 4:  HVTC Maiden Plate 1870m

Calm The Fire – Slow to begin.

 

Legend Has It – Slow to begin.  When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider G Buckley stated his mount travelled well in the early and middle stages, however, when placed under pressure rounding the home turn failed to respond to his riding, was disappointing in the manner in which it finished the race off and, in his opinion, did not handle today’s heavy track conditions.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be slow to recover and lame behind.  Trainer Mr L Bridge was told he would be required to furnish a veterinary clearance prior to the gelding barrier trialling or racing again.

 

Sacramento Joe – From the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.

 

Wyoming Belle – Raced fiercely in the early and middle stages and had to be checked away from the heels of Sir Bawn on numerous occasions.  As a consequence Wyoming Belle raced wide and without cover from the 1100m.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.  Trainer Ms K Outtrim was advised that Wyoming Belle must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again..  Ms Outtrim advised that she will now remove the blinkers from the mare’s gear and will instruct that the mare be ridden conservatively as to allow it to race more tractably.

 

RACE 5:  Calvary Mater Newcastle Benchmark 64 Handicap 1870m

What A Girl – The mare was a late scratching at 11.20am due to the track downgrade.

 

Layla Of Monaco – Slow to begin and then shortly after was steadied when crowded between Continuation and Ficheur, which shifted out.  Passing the 400m was momentarily held up for clear running on the heels of Arabolini.

 

Eugenio – Slow to begin (2L).

 

French Response - Passing the 300m had to be eased when attempting to secure a narrow run between Continuation and Deel Street, which shifted out slightly.

 

Arabolini – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

 

Ficheur – When questioned, App. M Weir stated that, in her opinion, the gelding failed to run out the 1870m of today’s race.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

Deel Street – A post-race veterinary examination the gelding to be slow to recover.  Trainer Ms K Waugh undertook to report back on the post-race condition of the gelding.

 

RACE 6:  Compass Housing Benchmark 64 Handicap 1500m

Vucetich – Bounded on jumping and lost ground.

 

Mabel Josephine – Slow to begin.

 

Casino Mondial – Began awkwardly.

 

Cathay - At 200m had to be eased away from Casino Mondial (App. M Weir), which shifted out when not quite clear.  App. M Weir was told to exercise more care.  When questioned, rider G Buckley stated that, in his opinion, his mount failed to run out the 1500m of today’s race, particularly in the heavy track conditions.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

Waihora Jewel – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

 

RACE 7:  Prosperity Advisers Group Class 1 Handicap 1300m

Hybrid Theory – Slow to begin.

 

Canford Mick – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

RACE 8:  The Jones Girls Conditional Benchmark 68 Handicap 1200m

Herzegovina – Began awkwardly.  Raced keenly in the early stages when being restrained.

 

Cool World – Slow to begin (2L).

 

Toto – Slow to begin.

 

Mr Polar – Approaching the 1000m had to be checked when racing keenly to the inside of Britain (R Hutchings), which was hanging in and away from Elusive Eagle.  R Hutchings was advised to exercise more care.  Rider K Latham reported from that point Mr Polar was inclined to overrace and hang out.

 

Midsummer Rain – When questioned regarding the performance, C Lever stated that his mount never travelled comfortably at any stage and, in his opinion, it failed to handle the heavy track conditions.  He added that his mount made an abnormal respiratory noise when pulling up after the race and he recommended to connections to add a tongue tie to the mare’s gear for its future race starts.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.  Trainer Mr C Crockett agreed with C Lever that Midsummer Rain did not handle the heavy track conditions and undertook to report back on the post-race condition of the mare and its future race plans.

 

Jacquine Reward – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
