Unbeaten duo Native Trail and Inspiral have moved to the head of their respective Cartier Two-Year-Old categories for this year’s Cartier Racing Awards following sparkling G1 victories at Newmarket’s Dubai Future Champions Festival.
The Cartier Racing Awards were established in 1991 to reward excellence in horseracing. There are eight equine awards - the Cartier Horse Of The Year, the Cartier Older Horse, the Cartier Sprinter, the Cartier Stayer, the Cartier Three-Year-Old Colt, the Cartier Three-Year-Old Filly, the Cartier Two-Year-Old Colt and the Cartier Two-Year-Old Filly.
The 31st annual Cartier Racing Awards will be awarded in November. Cartier continues its ongoing support with the presentation of the Cartier Racing Awards.
Godolphin’s Native Trail retained his faultless record with a second G1 victory of the season in the Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket on October 9.
The Charlie Appleby-trained son of Oasis Dream, successful in the G1 Goffs Vincent O’Brien National Stakes at the Curragh in September, now jointly heads the Cartier Two-Year-Old category with 80 points alongside another dual G1 winner, Perfect Power.
Inspiral is the new leader in the Cartier Two-Year-Old Filly category having continued her perfect record for John & Thady Gosden with a smooth win in the G1 bet365 Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket on October 8.
Owned by Cheveley Park Stud, the daughter of Frankel was recording her first top-level success and has 48 points, eight clear of Zellie, Agartha and Sandrine.
This week’s QIPCO British Champions Day looks set to have a major impact on the Cartier Racing Awards, with a host of stars due to run at Ascot on October 16.
Victory for Palace Pier (144) in the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO) will see the John & Thady Gosden-trained colt move above St Mark’s Basilica (160) at the top of the Cartier Horse Of The Year standings.
Mother Earth (144) could also leapfrog St Mark’s Basilica if successful in the mile highlight, while victory for Alcohol Free (96), Lady Bowthorpe (72) or Baaeed (40) would see them enter Cartier Horse Of The Year calculations.
The Gosdens hold a strong hand in the G1 QIPCO Champion Stakes with Mishriff (108) hoping to follow up success in the G1 Juddmonte International. His main rival could be Adayar (100), who comfortably beat Mishriff at Ascot earlier this season in the G1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth QIPCO Stakes.
Lady Bowthorpe (72) also has the option of the G1 QIPCO Champion Stakes along with Snowfall (136) and Love (80), who are both cross-entered in the G1 QIPCO British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes on the same card.
Starman (64), currently leading the Cartier Sprinter standings, has been forced to miss the G1 QIPCO British Champions Sprint through injury and an impressive winner of the six-furlong contest may yet challenge for the award in a wide-open category.
Trueshan (68) could renew his rivalry with four-time Cartier Champion Stayer Stradivarius (58) in the G2 QIPCO British Champions Long Distance Cup, with the duo having fought out the finish to the G1 Qatar Prix du Cadran on Arc weekend.
