The Jamie Richards trained Melody Belle (NZ) has not moved as the $3.40 favourite for the $200,000, Group 2 Iron Jack Missile Stakes (1200m) with set weights and penalties at Rosehill on Saturday from the TAB opening market on Monday.
The six-year-old Commands mare has drawn to the outside of the 13 strong field at barrier 11 with 57kg under Kerrin McEvoy, however, TAB have kept her at the $3.40 quote after acceptances on Wednesday.
Godolphin’s Flit is on the second line at $5.00 after starting out at $6.00 on Monday before support arrived for the four-year-old Medaglia d’Oro Group 2 winning mare. Flit has 57kg and barrier one.
Melody Belle comes into her first race of this campaign off a 1/2L trial win over 850m on the Kensington track on July 31st.
The multiple Group winning mare has the figures since this time last year of contesting eight Group 1 races, winning four, placing in two, running fourth in the Doncaster Handicap with 57kg and finishing her campaign with a sixth in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes. In between that stretch of races she stepped out for a third in the All-Star Mile at Caulfield.
The full Missile Stakes market is Melody Belle $3.40, Flit $5.00, Eduardo $6.50, Special Reward and Savatiano $8.50, Kolding $14.00, Le Romain $16.00, Mister Sea Wolf $18.00 and the rest at $26.00 and over.
The Missile Stakes is Race 7 at 3.35pm.
The three-year-old’s start their march towards the 1400m of Group 1 Golden Rose at the track on September 26th with the 1100m of $140,000, listed Schweppes Rosebud, Race 6 at 2.55pm.
A field of 11 were accepted on Wednesday with the top-weight the Hawkes’ trained Ole Kirk with 59kg under Tommy Berry and barrier five.
The Written Tycoon colt has started four times, all at black type level, opening with a win in the listed Talindert Stakes over 1100m at Flemington in February. He raced twice at Randwick for a 2L fourth to King’s Legacy in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes over 1400m on April 4th backing up for a 1 1/2L third to the same colt in the Group 1 ATC Champagne Stakes over 1600m on the 18th.
TAB have Gerald Ryan’s Snitzel colt Kumasi as their $3.60 favourite. Kumasi was second to Prague in the Group 3 Pago Pago Stakes in March. On Saturday he carries 55kg under Brenton Avdulla with barrier four.
Rulership and Anders share the second line of the market at $4.60, Return To Honour $6.00 and Ole Kirk at $11.00.
That price proved to be attractive with a punter securing with TAB a wager of $5,000 each-way @ $12/$3.20 on Ole Kirk early on Wednesday afternoon.
The meeting commences with a field of 11 for the $125,000, Sky Racing Active Bm72 Handicap (1500m) at 11.50am.
Racing NSW stewards’ reported on Wednesday that Jamie Richards has advised them that Melody Belle has developed a skin rash on her chest which is being treated by the stable veterinarian.
Richards has advised otherwise the mare is in good condition and has missed no work as a result of the condition. Racing NSW Veterinarians will inspect Melody Belle on Thursday to ascertain her suitability to race this Saturday.
Considerable rain is forecast for Rosehill on Friday with 20mm to 30mm predicted with 15c and 6mm to 30mm on Saturday with 17c.
The track is currently rated as a Heavy 8 and the rail will be in the True position for the entire circuit.
