Melody Belle (NZ) heads Missile Stakes nominations

The $200,000, Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) with set weights and penalties commences senior black type racing in Sydney for the 2020/21 season at Rosehill on Saturday backed up by the $140,000, listed The Rosebud (1100m) for three-year-old’s.

The Missile Stakes received 16 nominations on Monday headed by the multiple Group winning mare Melody Belle (NZ) with the Jamie Richards trained six-year-old by Commands coming off a stylish 1/2L trial win over 850m on the Kensington track on July 31st.

Melody Belle has the extraordinary figures since this time last year of contesting eight Group 1 races, winning four, placing in two, running fourth in the Doncaster Handicap with 57kg and finishing her campaign with a sixth in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes. In between that stretch of races she stepped out for a third in the All-Star Mile at Caulfield.

The mare will not be worried by whatever the conditions are at Rosehill with the track currently rated a Heavy 8 after 103.5mm of rain for the last seven days. She has won two from four on Heavy tracks and nine from 14 on Soft. Further rain is forecast for later in the week.

TAB have opened their Missile Stakes market with Melody Belle as the $3.40 favourite, Savatiano at $5.00, Flit $6.00 and Eduardo, Kolding, Mister Sea Wolf and Special Reward at $10.00.

The three-year-old’s start their march towards the 1400m of Group 1 Golden Rose at the track on September 26th with the 1100m of The Rosebud. There were 15 nominations on Monday with eight being last start winners.

The fine weather earlier this week for Rosehill is forecast to finish with 10mm to 20mm of rain predicted for Friday with 15c and a further 10mm to 25mm for Saturday with 18c.

The rail will be in the True position for the entire circuit.
