Melham will miss the crowd at the Cox Plate meeting at The Valley on Saturday

Jockey Ben Melham will miss the crowd at the Cox Plate meeting at The Valley on Saturday.

He says sitting in the jockeys’ room prior to the race you get a sense of the atmosphere, but due to COVID-19 that will be missing from this year’s event.

But it may play into the hands of his Cox Plate ride Armory (IRE) who will not have all the fanfare to deal with prior to Saturday’s $5 million 100th renewal of the weight-for-age showpiece.

Melham partnered Armory in light work at Werribee on Thursday and said the Aidan O’Brien-trained galloper was in top order ahead on Saturday’s assignment.

Listen to Melham discuss Armory, his other feature race rides at The Valley meeting and the lack of crowds during the spring below.
