McDonald appeals suspension

Sydney jockey James McDonald has confirmed he will appeal a Racing NSW stewards' three week suspension for failing to ride Threeood to take all reasonable and permissible measures on to either win or obtain the best possible place at Randwick on June 20th.

"I will be appealing for sure and hopefully get that heard as soon as possible," said McDonald on RSN927.

McDonald said the "harshness" of the penalty had prompted his decision to appeal.

The suspension commences on Sunday and ends on July 26th.

McDonald said he was planning to have a break from race riding after the Randwick meeting on Saturday. He has a 20-1/2 win lead over his nearest rival Nash Rawiller in this season's jockeys' title heading into Wednesday's meeting at Randwick-Kensington.
