Impressive Sunlight at Randwick

Tony McEvoy’s multiple Group 1 winner Sunlight impressively won her trial at Randwick on Monday as the four-year-old Zoustar mare is prepared for The Everest (1200m) on the same course on October 19th.

Alassio under Leah Kilner led the 900m Group and Listed trial on the Course Proper with Sunlight and Luke Currie camped outside as they went through the turn for the main straight leaving the rest 2L behind.

Currie had a good hold of Sunlight and then allowed her to ease forward in the straight and with 200m to run they had 1L on the tiring Alassio. Currie then allowed Sunlight to cruise to the line.

The Anthony Cummings trained Mizzy (Zoustar) under Tommy Berry closed well to finish 1/2L from Sunlight with the Snowden’s Catch Me (I Am Invincible) and Tim Clark third, the margin 1 1/4L. Alassion was fourth.

The time was 52.56 on the Good 4 track with the final 600m in 34.11.

Sunlight was last seen when third to Santa Ana Lane in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes over 1200m on the same track back on April 6th. Sunlight will race in the Max Whitby and Neil Werritt slot in The Everest.

The mare is currently sharing $9.00 with Classique Legend, who did not trial on Monday, with on their Everest market, Santa Ana Lane is the $5.00 favourite.

Cummings supplied the winners of the first two heats over 1000m with Baller and Libertine respectively showing they were ready for new campaigns.
