Immediate market support for Verry Elleegant (NZ)

It is not exactly Winx like wagering, but within two hours of the field of seven being accepted for the $500,000, Group 1 WFA Fujitsu George Main Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on Saturday a wager was made of $10,000 at $2.30 on the Chris Waller trained Verry Elleegant (NZ).

Verry Elleegant has barrier two for James McDonald with her closest TAB market rival Avilius (GB) out in six for Hugh Bowman. Avilius is at $4.60 with the rest of the field at $5.50 and over.

The multiple black type winning Verry Elleegant commenced her latest campaign with a win in the Group 1 Winx Stakes over 1400m on August 22nd and showed she was ready for her next assignment with a track gallop at Rosehill between races last Saturday.

Godolphin’s Avilius started his campaign with a notable fourth in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes over 1600m on September 5th. He had a near impossible barrier 15 and he was 13th at the 400m under Kerrin McEvoy, yet they came home to be just 1 1/4L from the winner, Mister Sea Wolf (IRE).

The George Main Stakes is Race 6 at 3.15pm.

Race 7 at 3.55pm is the $500,000, Group 2 Bowermans Commercial Furniture The Shorts (1100m) with a field of 12. Two of the main contenders, Bivouac and Classique Legend, have drawn wide at 12 and 10 respectively.

Nevertheless TAB have opened with Godolphin’s Bivouac as the $3.70 favourite and Classique Legend on the second line at $4.20. Catalyst at $6.00 and the rest of the field $7.00 and over.

Classique Legend came out in June to win the listed June Stakes over 1100m under Kerrin McEvoy and Bridge has kept the five-year-old Not A Single Doubt gelding ticking over with a winning trial over 800m at Newcastle on August 26th. McEvoy rides on Saturday with 57kg.

Bivouac has had two winning trials, the last over 1050m at Randwick on September 8th. The four-year-old Exceed And Excel entire has not been seen since his fifth in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes over 1400m at Randwick back in April. Bowman rides with 58kg.

Clayton Chipperfield’s Catalyst will be having his first start since the Group 1 Australian Guineas over 1600m at Flemington in February after which he was spelled due to injury. The race before he had an epic battle with Alligator Blood for second in the Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes over 1400m at the same course. Catalyst has barrier one for Glen Boss with 58kg.

Waller’s Frankel filly Hungry Heart is the $2.00 opening favourite for the $200,000, Group 2 Darley  Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) , the third leg of the Sydney Princess Series.  Hungry Heart, McDonald and barrier three, was second to Dame Giselle in the Group 1 Furious Stakes over 1200m coming from seventh at the 400m to be 1/2L from the winner. Dame Giselle, the winner of the first two legs of the series, is at $3.50 with barrier five for Tommy Berry.

The Tea Rose Stakes is Race 4 at 2.00pm.

The nine race programme commences at 12.15pm with a field of 12 in the $125,000, Quincy Seltzer Bm 88 Handicap (1200m). There were 130 acceptances on Wednesday.

The Course Proper is rated a Good 4 on Wednesday and the rail will be in the True position for the entire circuit.

Sydney’s weather into the weekend is for a sunny and windy day with 29c on Thursday, a cloudy day and 20c on Friday and a partly cloudy day with 14c to 22c on Saturday.
