STIMULATION was withdrawn on 10.1.22 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left hind). Before being allowed to race again, STIMULATION will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
SUPER FAST, which was found to have sustained a small cut in the mouth, was examined by the Veterinary Officer on arrival at the Start and passed suitable to race.
As the start was effected, SUPER FAST lifted its front feet off the ground and then was crowded for room between CHAMPION PAL and STAR OF GLORY which shifted out. In this incident, SUPER FAST bumped the hindquarters of CHAMPION PAL. SUPER FAST was then ridden along to make up lost ground.
Shortly after the start, when being steadied to obtain cover, SKY GEM got its head on the side and lay in towards the heels of CHAMPION PAL, resulting in SKY GEM being awkwardly placed outside that horse for a short distance.
Also after travelling a short distance, CHAMPION PAL and SUPER FAST bumped.
Near the 1700 Metres, RED IMPACT was very awkwardly placed behind GO BALLISTIC (J Moreira) which, after obtaining the lead, was steadied. STAR OF GLORY, which was following RED IMPACT, got its head up when being checked away from the heels of that horse in consequence. J Moreira was reprimanded and told to ensure that he does not ease his mounts in such a manner as to cause horses which are racing behind him to be hampered.
When LEGION OF MERIT was shifted out to improve its position after the 1100 Metres, SKY GEM (V Borges) was ridden along to improve with that horse. SKY GEM was then left racing wide and without cover approaching the 800 Metres. After the race, V Borges stated that after attempting to improve his position to follow LEGION OF MERIT, SKY GEM gave him a limited response, however, by the 600 Metres was under heavy pressure and then in the Straight did not finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of SKY GEM immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Rounding the Home Turn, STAR OF GLORY shifted in towards the running rail and became badly unbalanced of its own accord.

Also near the 1050 Metres, THE JOLLY was awkwardly placed behind KING’S TROOPER.
Passing the 600 Metres, REGENCY POET commenced to prove very difficult to settle and got its head up on a number of occasions and then after the 600 Metres shifted in of its own accord and bumped the running rail. REGENCY POET then shifted out making the turn approaching the 550 Metres and was awkwardly placed inside the heels of VIVA CHEF. VECTOR, which was following REGENCY POET, was inconvenienced. After this, REGENCY POET continued to prove very difficult to settle and after being awkwardly placed close to the heels of ZACIAN near the 500 Metres was checked away from behind that horse passing the 400 Metres. VECTOR, which continued to follow REGENCY POET, was hampered in consequence.
Passing the 300 Metres, ZACIAN got its head on the side and lay in away from VIVA CHEF, resulting in ZACIAN being awkwardly placed close to the heels of WINNING STRIKES. ZACIAN then raced in restricted room between WINNING STRIKES and VIVA CHEF passing the 250 Metres.
Near the 200 Metres, DAILY BEAUTY was shifted out away from the heels of MASTER OF FUN when that horse shifted out when giving ground.

After the race, J Moreira stated that after being hampered at the start, DAILY BEAUTY did not show any early speed and was required to race at the rear of the field throughout. He said DAILY BEAUTY did not travel well at any stage of tonight’s race and he had to continually ride his mount along in an endeavour to have it maintain its position. He said despite being ridden along DAILY BEAUTY would not respond to his riding and in the Straight did not finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of DAILY BEAUTY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of MASTER OF FUN and THE JOLLY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
REGENCY POET, KING’S TROOPER and CIGAR BUDDIES were sent for sampling.

Race:3 (330) MA TAU KOK HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1000 m

SCOTCH TYCOON and SUPER COMMANDER were crowded for room on jumping between TRAVEL DATUK and KA YING SPIRIT, both of which shifted ground.

KA YING SPIRIT travelled keenly in the early stages.
STAR OF WUYI made the turn after the 600 Metres awkwardly, shifted out and bumped JAZZ STEED.
At the 300 Metres, SUPER COMMANDER was shifted out away from the heels of SUPER CLASS which got its head on the side and lay in.
At the 50 Metres, STAR OF WUYI, which was finishing the race off, was shifted out away from the heels of KA YING SPIRIT (K Teetan) which commenced to shift out under pressure. This resulted in STAR OF WUYI being awkwardly placed inside EXCELLENT PEERS and having to be steadied to avoid the heels of that horse. Because of this, STAR OF WUYI was not able to be properly tested over the concluding stages. KA YING SPIRIT was then shifted in to relieve the crowding to STAR OF WUYI. K Teetan was advised to make every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground in similar circumstances.
Throughout the race, PACKING CHAMPION travelled wide and without cover.
After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on AMAZING ROCKY at the request of Trainer T P Yung. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Race:4 (331) MA TAU WAI HANDICAP (Sec2) Class 4 1200 m

From the outside barriers, PRANCE DRAGON, HANDSOME BOY and LUCKY QUALITY were all steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
INESTIMABLE and FALCON TURBO bumped on a number of occasions shortly after the start.
After the 1100 Metres, INESTIMABLE commenced to travel keenly, shifted out and inconvenienced FARIBAULT. UNIVERSAL GO GO, which was racing outside the heels of FARIBAULT, was inconvenienced in consequence.
MOON PEAKS travelled wide and without cover until near the 600 Metres.
Rounding the Home Turn, LUCKY QUALITY was steadied away from the heels of HANDSOME BOY when held up behind that horse.
Approaching the 250 Metres, TOUCH FAITH shifted out and brushed MOON PEAKS. MOON PEAKS then shifted out away from TOUCH FAITH and near the 200 Metres bumped FARIBAULT, causing that horse to become unbalanced.
For the majority of the race, INESTIMABLE travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding his riding of FARIBAULT in the middle stages, M Chadwick stated that he was instructed to position FARIBAULT in about a midfield position if possible. He said there were a number of runners which were drawn more favourably than FARIBAULT which were expected to obtain forward positions and rather than use his mount up in an endeavour to clear those horses, it was felt that it would be in FARIBAULT’s best interests to allow those horses to obtain forward positions and then obtain cover behind the speed. He said after being awkwardly placed close to the heels of INESTIMABLE near the 1000 Metres when obtaining cover behind that horse, this resulted in TOUCH FAITH, which was racing immediately to the inside of FARIBAULT, holding a slight advantage over his mount. He said rather than remain racing in a three wide position behind INESTIMABLE, he elected to steady FARIBAULT and obtain a position behind TOUCH FAITH which he felt would be a horse which would take him into the race. He added no sooner did he do this than TOUCH FAITH came off the bridle and had to be ridden along to maintain its position behind FALCON TURBO. He said when this happened he realized that he had made an error in electing to follow TOUCH FAITH as it resulted in FARIBAULT being further out of its ground than had been anticipated. He said rather than remain racing behind that horse and continue for FARIBAULT to race out of its ground, he elected after the 500 Metres to commence shifting to the outside of TOUCH FAITH and then to the outside of MOON PEAKS after the 400 Metres. He said he was then able to obtain clear running on FARIBAULT at the entrance to the Straight and the horse finished off the race well. M Chadwick was told that his explanation would be reported, however, he must ensure that he places his mounts in the most advantageous position wherever appropriate circumstances exist.
A veterinary inspection of HANDSOME BOY and TOUCH FAITH immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in both horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, HANDSOME BOY and TOUCH FAITH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
FALCON TURBO, PRANCE DRAGON and HAPPILY FRIENDS were sent for sampling.

Race:5 (332) TO KWA WAN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1650 m

LOYAL AMBITION began only fairly.
MOERAKI shifted out at the start and bumped HYPERION TREE which became unbalanced when crowded for room inside EVER LAUGH.
From wide barriers, SHADOW BREAKER and REGENCY MASTER were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
WINNING VOLATILITY was also steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.
Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, GLORIOUS LOVER was awkwardly placed outside the heels of LOYAL AMBITION when being steadied to obtain cover behind that horse.
After passing the winning post on the first occasion, EVER LAUGH commenced to prove very difficult to settle and was severely checked away from the heels of TRAVEL GLORY approaching and passing the 1400 Metres.
Near the 1400 Metres, LOYAL AMBITION was steadied away from the heels of HYPERION TREE. HYPERION TREE was then awkwardly placed behind OFF THE REEL passing the 1300 Metres.
After the 1200 Metres, WINNING VOLATILITY was left racing wide and without cover and was then allowed to improve its position in the middle stages to race outside the lead approaching the 800 Metres.

After the 900 Metres, OFF THE REEL raced wide and without cover.
After the 500 Metres, MOERAKI got its head on the side and lay out, resulting in WINNING VOLATILITY, which was racing to the outside of that horse, also being taken out marginally. MORE THAN ENOUGH (M Chadwick), which was following WINNING VOLATILITY, then improved to be racing tight inside the heels of that horse approaching the 400 Metres. When WINNING VOLATILITY shifted back in marginally, MORE THAN ENOUGH was shifted in away from the heels of that horse, resulting in TRAVEL GLORY becoming badly unbalanced and losing ground when crowded for room inside MORE THAN ENOUGH which itself was then awkwardly placed close to the heels of WINNING VOLATILITY at the entrance to the Straight. M Chadwick was told that whilst the Stewards accepted that WINNING VOLATILITY had shifted out into a tight three wide position, nonetheless he must ensure that he exercises due care when attempting to position his horses to take advantage of tight runs so that horses which are racing around his mounts are able to maintain their running. When TRAVEL GLORY was crowded for room, DR WINNING, which was following, was checked out away from the heels of that horse in consequence, resulting in REGENCY MASTER being inconvenienced.
At the entrance to the Straight, GLORIOUS LOVER shifted in and bumped OFF THE REEL.
At the 300 Metres, WINNING VOLATILITY was awkwardly placed outside the heels of MOERAKI.
When questioned, J Moreira stated that passing the 1000 Metres GLORIOUS LOVER was very awkwardly placed close to the heels of HYPERION TREE due to the moderate tempo of the race at that time. He said rather than remain racing back in the field and having to be checked away from the heels of runners in front, he elected to allow his mount to improve its position passing the 900 Metres due to the pace of the race. He said as he improved around OFF THE REEL, that horse was ridden along to improve with GLORIOUS LOVER. He said he rode his mount along after the 800 Metres in an attempt to clear OFF THE REEL as GLORIOUS LOVER was racing in a four wide position at this time, however, GLORIOUS LOVER was not able to show sufficient speed to be able to clear OFF THE REEL which continued to be ridden along to maintain its position inside his mount. He said this resulted in GLORIOUS LOVER having to race in a four wide position and without cover for the remainder of the race.
After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that GLORIOUS LOVER had sustained a small wound to the right hind leg.
A veterinary inspection of MORE THAN ENOUGH, WINNING VOLATILITY, LOYAL AMBITION and TRAVEL GLORY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
GLORIOUS LOVER, OFF THE REEL and EVER LAUGH were sent for sampling.

Making the turn near the 1050 Metres, SIMPLY FLUKE raced in restricted room between ELON and TURIN WARRIOR which was racing tight inside FLAMING PASSION which got its head on the side and lay in away from COLONEL.
ELON travelled keenly making the turn near the 950 Metres.
FAULDS was left racing wide and without cover near the 550 Metres.
At the entrance to the Straight, ELON was shifted in a number of horses to obtain clear running.
Near the 50 Metres, JAZZ ANGEL got its head on the side and shifted in away from GRACYLOVE, resulting in JAZZ ANGEL bumping EVER FORCE. When racing very tight outside EVER FORCE, JAZZ ANGEL was then crowded for room approaching the winning post between EVER FORCE and GRACYLOVE which shifted in marginally.
After the race, J Moreira stated that after JAZZ ANGEL was again slow to begin and then shifted out towards the heels of SIMPLY FLUKE, the horse was required to race back in the field. He said JAZZ ANGEL then travelled satisfactorily in the early and middle stages, however, after coming under pressure at the entrance to the Straight got its head on the side and shifted in towards the rail. He said he switched JAZZ ANGEL to the outside of EVER FORCE near the 200 Metres and whilst he was not able to ride JAZZ ANGEL out fully over the concluding stages, nonetheless, in his opinion, the horse was well beaten at this time and was disappointing in that it did not finish off the race as it had at its most recent starts. A veterinary inspection of JAZZ ANGEL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of JAZZ ANGEL, favourite for tonight’s race and which finished at the rear of the field, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, JAZZ ANGEL will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of ELON and FAULDS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
JAZZ ANGEL, SUPER DOBBIN and PARTY WARRIOR were sent for sampling.

Race:7 (334) MA TAU WAI HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1200 m

ISLAND SHINE and SINGAPORE SPIRIT bumped at the start. ISLAND SHINE then raced tight outside the heels of SINGAPORE SPIRIT shortly after the start when being steadied to obtain cover.
From wide barriers, BELLA BABY and NOBODY KNOWS were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Approaching the 1000 Metres, SPICY GRILL raced tight outside SMART IDEA when being steadied to obtain cover behind that horse.
After being ridden along from a wide barrier to obtain a forward position, NOIR RIDER was left racing very wide making the turn near the 1000 Metres and was then steadied after this in an attempt to obtain cover. Making the turn after the 600 Metres, SMART IDEA was awkwardly placed behind SO AWESOME.
At the 300 Metres, ISLAND SHINE was shifted to the inside of BIG TWO.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SAVVY DELIGHT, J Moreira stated that it was intended for the horse to be ridden in about a midfield position. He said SAVVY DELIGHT began well tonight and he commenced to steady shortly after the start to obtain cover. He said however when runners to his inside were also being steadied by their riders, he believed that he would have had to heavily restrain SAVVY DELIGHT in an attempt to obtain a position as instructed. He therefore allowed SAVVY DELIGHT to improve forward of LUCKY MARYKNOLL, SO AWESOME and BIG TWO passing the 1000 Metres rather than remaining racing wide. He added after this SAVVY DELIGHT would not relax when racing in a forward position without cover. He said it was not until near the 600 Metres than SAVVY DELIGHT was able to obtain cover behind HANDSOME REBEL, however, the horse had used up too much energy in the middle stages when over-racing. He said he placed SAVVY DELIGHT under pressure at the entrance to the Straight and the horse gave him only a limited response. He said SAVVY DELIGHT then weakened out of the race over the concluding stages which he attributed to the manner in which the horse would not relax in the early and middle stages. A veterinary inspection of SAVVY DELIGHT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of SAVVY DELIGHT, favourite for tonight’s race and which finished towards the rear of the field, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SAVVY DELIGHT will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Also after the race, C Y Ho stated that after obtaining a forward position, SINGAPORE SPIRIT travelled satisfactorily in the middle stages. He said the horse came under pressure prior to the 400 Metres and then did not quicken as hoped. He said he commenced to ride SINGAPORE SPIRIT vigorously after the 300 Metres, however, the horse did not respond to his riding and then when under pressure after the 200 Metres shifted ground on a number of occasions. He added that after this SINGAPORE SPIRIT weakened noticeably over the concluding stages. A veterinary inspection of SINGAPORE SPIRIT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of ISLAND SHINE and NOBODY KNOWS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SAVVY DELIGHT, SMART IDEA and SPICY GRILL were sent for sampling.

For the majority of the race, JOYFUL WIN (M Chadwick) travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. After the race, M Chadwick stated that although his mount was required to race very wide and without cover throughout, nonetheless he felt that JOYFUL WIN raced "flat” tonight and believed that its last start performance may have taken more out of the horse than expected. A veterinary inspection of JOYFUL WIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

General

1. 9 January 2022 Sha Tin Racemeeting – Race 10 (327)

The Stewards tonight interviewed Trainer J Size regarding the improved performance of HEZA BEAUTY in this race. Mr Size said HEZA BEAUTY has a well-documented history in respect of barrier issues and which has resulted in the horse having to give up too much start in a number of its races. He said he had been reluctant to add the blinkers to HEZA BEAUTY in the past as he believed that this piece of equipment would not assist the horse in behaving better in the barriers. He said however that at its most recent starts HEZA BEAUTY had improved its barrier manners and given the horse had raced disappointingly in those races, he believed that HEZA BEAUTY may benefit from the addition of blinkers at this stage of its career. He said in this race HEZA BEAUTY began very well and due to the blinkers was able to obtain a good position in the early stages without having to be made use of. He said because of these factors HEZA BEAUTY was then able to finish off the race better than it had been at its recent starts.
