On arrival at the Start, K H Chan expressed concern regarding the action of GOOD VIEW CLARICO. GOOD VIEW CLARICO was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race.
SEIZING THE MOMENT began only fairly.
SPONTANEOUS was bumped on jumping by MOERAKI (H T Mo) which began awkwardly and was then taken out by WE THE SOUTH. In this incident, H T Mo’s left foot momentarily slipped out of the stirrup iron.
BRILLIANT FORTUNE shifted out on jumping and inconvenienced GINSON. Then from the outside barrier, GINSON was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Passing the 900 Metres, MOERAKI momentarily raced tight between SEIZING THE MOMENT and SPONTANEOUS which shifted in away from the heels of ASTRO KING.
Making the turn near the 550 Metres, ASTRO KING was shifted out away from the heels of GINSON (B Shinn) which shifted in when not properly clear. When ASTRO KING shifted out, SPONTANEOUS, which was following, was inconvenienced. B Shinn was advised to ensure that he is properly clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances. After this, ASTRO KING got its head on the side and lay out.
Passing the 175 Metres, MOERAKI got its head on the side and shifted out abruptly under pressure.
Close to the finishing line, SEIZING THE MOMENT raced tight inside BRILLIANT FORTUNE.
A veterinary inspection of GINSON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
WE THE SOUTH and BRILLIANT FORTUNE were sent for sampling.

Race:2 (198) STOCKBRIDGE HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1650 m

HAPPY LAND, which made contact with a rail going onto the track, was examined by the Veterinary Officer on arrival at the barriers and found to be suitable to race.
NORDIC WARRIOR shifted out at the start, resulting in KING DRAGON being crowded for room inside FORTUNE WINNER and causing all three horses to become unbalanced.
SUPER RED DRAGON and TRAVEL GLORY bumped at the start.
AI ONE was steadied on jumping and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, FORTUNE WINNER and KING DRAGON bumped.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, SUPER RED DRAGON was steadied away from the heels of TRAVEL GLORY (A Badel) which shifted in when not properly clear. A Badel was advised to exercise more care.
Making the turn at the 650 Metres, OFF THE REEL lay in towards the heels of HEAVENLY THOUGHT, resulting in TRAVEL GLORY being crowded for room outside DR WINNING. SUPER RED DRAGON, which was following TRAVEL GLORY, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of that horse in consequence.
Near the 550 Metres, NORDIC WARRIOR lost ground when momentarily crowded for room inside SUPER RED DRAGON (V Borges) which shifted in before being directed back out to relieve the crowding to NORDIC WARRIOR. As the Stewards were of the opinion that V Borges had reacted in a timely manner to SUPER RED DRAGON shifting ground, no further action was taken. When NORDIC WARRIOR lost ground, AI ONE, which was following, was checked away from the heels of that horse in consequence.
After the 500 Metres, TRAVEL GLORY was shifted out away from the heels of HEAVENLY THOUGHT which commenced to give ground.
Approaching the 400 Metres, SUPER RED DRAGON was awkwardly placed close to the heels of YEE CHEONG WARRIOR when being directed to the inside of HEAVENLY THOUGHT which continued to give ground. A veterinary inspection of HEAVENLY THOUGHT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of HEAVENLY THOUGHT, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, HEAVENLY THOUGHT will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
At the entrance to the Straight, FORTUNE WINNER raced tight outside AI ONE which shifted out to improve.
Near the 250 Metres, K Teetan (KING DRAGON) dropped his whip. As this was the third occasion this season that K Teetan had been reported to have dropped his whip in races, he was placed on notice that should he again drop his whip this season, further action may be taken.
Throughout the race, OFF THE REEL travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned, R Maia stated that he was instructed to obtain a forward position on HAPPY LAND and if possible to obtain a position on the rail and then allow other runners to improve forward of HAPPY LAND to afford that horse a trailing position. He said in accordance with his instructions he rode HAPPY LAND along in the early stages and passing the winning post on the first occasion was able to shift across to race on the rail in the lead. He said he then immediately steadied his mount with a view to allowing runners to his outside to improve their position, however, HEAVENLY THOUGHT, which was racing outside HAPPY LAND, remained racing in that position which resulted in HAPPY LANG racing in the lead. He said when unable to obtain cover, HAPPY LAND, which was racing with the blinkers added for the first time in Hong Kong, travelled too keenly and would not relax for him. He added he attempted to steady HAPPY LAND as he was aware that the race was being run at a fast tempo, however, the horse would not respond and continued to travel too strongly in the middle stages.
A veterinary inspection of KING DRAGON and OFF THE REEL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
DR WINNING, YEE CHEONG WARRIOR and AI ONE were sent for sampling.

Passing the winning post on the first occasion, SMILING FACE got its head up and proved difficult to settle when being steadied to obtain cover behind KWAI CHUNG ELITE.
Near the 1350 Metres, TOP ACCOLADE shifted in away from the heels of SUN SUN FA FA and in doing so brushed the running rail and became unbalanced.
Near the 1050 Metres, RUN THE TABLE was awkwardly placed outside the heels of MISTER ARM which shifted out away from the heels of CENTENARY IBIS.
VECTOR lay in under pressure in the Straight.
On pulling up, M Chadwick dismounted from SUN SUN FA FA. A veterinary inspection of SUN SUN FA FA immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its right hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, SUN SUN FA FA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the race, L Ferraris stated that WHO LOVES THE ACE travelled keenly in the middle stages and would not relax for him as well as he had hoped. He said after commencing to improve his position after the 600 Metres, WHO LOVES THE ACE came under pressure rounding the Home Turn and then did not finish off the race which he attributed to the horse’s failure to relax in the middle stages. A veterinary inspection of WHO LOVES THE ACE immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, WHO LOVES THE ACE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of KWAI CHUNG ELITE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
RUN THE TABLE and AMAZING BOY were sent for sampling.

Race:4 (200) THE ST ANDREW'S CHALLENGE QUAICH (HANDICAP) (Sec2) Class 4 1650 m

LAPUTA shifted out at the start and bumped LOYAL BABY which then shifted in and brushed SHINY TWO.
MORE THAN ENOUGH shifted out at the start, resulting in ERNEST FEELING, MISSION BRAVO and SURE WIN WIN being hampered. After this, ERNEST FEELING, MISSION BRAVO and SURE WIN WIN were all shifted across behind runners from the outside barriers.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, ERNEST FEELING was steadied away from the heels of LAPUTA which shifted in.
Near the 1350 Metres, GREAT TREASURE momentarily raced in restricted room inside SHINY TWO which shifted in before being shifted out to relieve the crowding.
CHATER PINS travelled keenly approaching and passing the 1300 Metres and got its head up when awkwardly placed behind LOYAL BABY passing the 1000 Metres.
Making the turn after the 600 Metres, SHINY TWO, which was being ridden along to maintain its position, got its head on the side and shifted out. As SHINY TWO shifted out, LAPUTA, which had been following that horse, improved into tight running between SHINY TWO and GREAT TREASURE. LAPUTA was then steadied passing the 550 Metres when disappointed for running between GREAT TREASURE and SHINY TWO (H Bentley) which shifted in. ZONE D, which was following LAPUTA, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse in consequence. As the Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that SHINY TWO had shifted out into a true three wide position and given that the horse had raced greenly throughout the race, no further action was taken other than H Bentley was advised to do his utmost to prevent his mounts from shifting ground in similar circumstances.
Passing the winning post, ZONE D and CHARIZARD raced tight.
After the race, Z Purton stated that, in his opinion, ERNEST FEELING’s run tonight was not as disappointing as it may have seen. He said after the 600 Metres he was following LAPUTA and when that horse was disappointed for running approaching the 500 Metres, LAPUTA shifted to the outside of SHINY TWO which resulted in ERNEST FEELING and LAPUTA racing tight. He said he was unable to prevent LAPUTA from improving to the outside of SHINY TWO at this time which resulted in ERNEST FEELING being taken wider rounding the Home Turn. He added after this when placed under pressure, ERNEST FEELING finished off the race fairly. A veterinary inspection of ERNEST FEELING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
When questioned, A Badel (ZONE D) stated that at the entrance to the Straight he considered improving his position to the inside of CHATER PINS and outside LOYAL BABY. He said however that after the 300 Metres he was still a number of lengths behind those horses and as he was concerned that either horse may shift ground, resulting in ZONE D not being able to improve between those horses, he elected to commence to shift to the outside of CHATER PINS near the 250 Metres. He added had he have been closer to the run between those horses, he would have pursued that run, but given the circumstances he felt that it was more prudent to shift to the outside of runners to ensure that ZONE D was able to obtain clear running. He said he was able to continually ride his mount along in the Straight until near the 50 Metres at which point ZONE D commenced to lay in behind CHARIZARD when being directed into clear running to the outside of that horse. He said after the 50 Metres he was able to obtain clear running to the outside of CHARIZARD and ZONE D finished off the race strongly.
CHARIZARD and LOYAL BABY were sent for sampling.

CALL ME LU shifted out at the start and brushed JOYFUL GENIUS.
From the outside barrier, TAKE WHAT YOU NEED was steadied to obtain cover in the early stages.
When being steadied to obtain cover from a wide barrier, ACA POWER travelled very keenly and proved difficult to settle to obtain a trailing position behind BALTIC WHISPER. ACA POWER then continued to race fiercely along the Back Straight which resulted in the horse being checked away from the heels of DASHING GENIUS for some distance after the 800 Metres. When continuing to race ungenerously, ACA POWER made the turn after the 600 Metres awkwardly and shifted out.
Making the turn approaching the 1000 Metres, KA YING SPIRIT commenced to travel very keenly and got its head up repeatedly when being steadied to obtain cover behind CALL ME LU. BALTIC WHISPER, which was following KA YING SPIRIT, was eased away from the heels of that horse in consequence near the 950 Metres. After this, KA YING SPIRIT continued to travel very keenly and was awkwardly placed behind CALL ME LU.
After the 700 Metres, DASHING GENIUS was left racing wide and without cover.
Passing the 250 Metres, SPARTAN MISSILE was shifted to the inside of HERO STAR to obtain clear running.
Passing the 200 Metres, CALL ME LU got its head on the side and shifted out.
Passing the 150 Metres, SPARTAN MISSILE raced tight inside HERO STAR which got its head on the side and shifted in under pressure.
After the race, Z Purton (KA YING SPIRIT) said that although his mount travelled keenly in the early and middle stages, he felt that the horse was travelling well enough prior to the Home Turn to finish off the race. He said after being shifted to the outside of CALL ME LU rounding the Home Turn, KA YING SPIRIT was inclined to lay in behind that horse and then after being shifted away from the heels of CALL ME LU then did not finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of KA YING SPIRIT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of FIRE BALL and DASHING GENIUS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
FIRE BALL, FLAMING PASSION and SPARTAN MISSILE were sent for sampling.

BORDER CONTROL travelled keenly making the turn after the 1100 Metres. BORDER CONTROL continued to travel keenly in the middle stages and in the Straight gave ground and finished tailed out. A veterinary inspection of BORDER CONTROL immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, BORDER CONTROL will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the 800 Metres, WILD WEST WING was left racing wide and without cover.
Near the 550 Metres, STAR OF WUYI was awkwardly placed behind STRIVE FOR GLORY.
Both H W Lai (BRIGHT KID) and C Wong (RED BRICK GLORY) were reminded of their obligations regarding the use of the whip on a horse out of contention in respect of the placings of the race.

Race:7 (203) INVERLEITH PARK HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1650 m

TOTAL POWER was checked on jumping when crowded for room between CHEERFUL DAYS which shifted in and TORONADO PHANTOM which was taken out by FARSHAD which, after initially shifting out of its own accord, was then taken out by SUPER WINNER. In this incident, FARSHAD also lost ground whilst TORONADO PHANTOM became unbalanced.
Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, FARSHAD was awkwardly placed close to the heels of INVINCIBLE MISSILE when racing tight inside TORONADO PHANTOM.
For some distance approaching and passing the 800 Metres, EVERYONE’S DELIGHT got its head on the side and lay out.
Approaching the 800 Metres, SUPER WINNER, which was travelling keenly, was steadied away from the heels of YO BEAUTY (M F Poon) which shifted in when not properly clear. M F Poon was severely reprimanded and told to ensure that he is properly clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
Passing the 700 Metres, LIFELINE VISION was shifted out away from the heels of EVERYONE’S DELIGHT after being awkwardly placed behind that horse.
When questioned, K H Chan stated that he is aware that SUPER WINNER can travel keenly in its races. He said after the 1200 Metres YO BEAUTY commenced to improve forward of SUPER WINNER and as the race was being run at a genuine tempo, he was reluctant to ride his mount along to maintain his position inside that horse as he was concerned that SUPER WINNER may then commence to over-race. He said after the 1000 Metres when the race was continuing to be run at a good tempo, he attempted to steady SUPER WINNER to follow YO BEAUTY in the hope that this would help SUPER WINNER to relax. He said when YO BEAUTY took some time to improve forward of SUPER WINNER, this resulted in his mount travelling keenly and being awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse near the 800 Metres.
After the race, Z Purton stated that after having to make use of his horse to obtain a forward position from the outside barrier, EVERYONE’S DELIGHT travelled only fairly in the middle stages. He said when LIFELINE VISION improved its position around EVERYONE’S DELIGHT passing the 600 Metres, he had to ride his mount along earlier than he had hoped to prevent that horse from improving its position around EVERYONE’S DELIGHT. He said he was of the opinion that having to make use of his horse in the early stages and then having to ride his mount from the 600 Metres were the reasons for EVERYONE’S DELIGHT then not being able to finish off the race in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of EVERYONE’S DELIGHT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
TORONADO PHANTOM, CHEERFUL DAYS and INVINCIBLE MISSILE were sent for sampling.
