STARLIGHT began awkwardly.
FARM BUMPER was slow to begin.
MANAGEMENT SUPREME was crowded for room on jumping between UNITED WE STAND which began awkwardly and HERE COMES TED which shifted out.
From a wide barrier, EVEN KEEL was steadied and shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Making the turn near the 1050 Metres, UNITED WE STAND and SKY TREASURE brushed.
Near the 700 Metres, SKY TREASURE was left racing wide and without cover.
Approaching the 600 Metres, UNITED WE STAND was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GINTOKI.
Also approaching the 600 Metres, DIAMOND LEGEND was steadied away from the heels of GOODLUCK GOODLUCK which was awkwardly placed behind HAPPY GOOD GUYS.
Passing the 600 Metres, FARM BUMPER got its head up when racing close to the heels of STARLIGHT when being shifted to the outside of that horse.
Passing the 300 Metres, GOODLUCK GOODLUCK was very awkwardly placed close to the heels of GINTOKI when being directed to the outside of that horse to obtain clear running.
Near the 250 Metres, HAPPY GOOD GUYS (J Moreira) was steadied and shifted to the outside of MANAGEMENT SUPREME (C Y Ho) after being disappointed for running inside that horse which shifted in. Based on the evidence of J Moreira and the video footage which was available to the Stewards in respect of that evidence, C Y Ho was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is properly clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances. When HAPPY GOOD GUYS was shifted out, GINTOKI, which was commencing to give ground, was steadied away from the heels of that horse and EVEN KEEL was also inconvenienced. A veterinary inspection of GINTOKI immediately following the race found that horse to have bled from both nostrils.
Passing the 150 Metres, SWEETLY BABY was shifted to the outside of FARM BUMPER to obtain clear running.
After the race, K Teetan was dislodged from HERE COMES TED without incident.
A veterinary inspection of DIAMOND LEGEND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
HAPPY GOOD GUYS, HERE COMES TED and GOODLUCK GOODLUCK were sent for sampling.

Race:2 (671) TAN SHAN RIVER HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1800 m

SMART THINKER was slow to begin.
After travelling a short distance, RULE THEE, which was being steadied to obtain cover from a wide barrier, was steadied away from the heels of DRAGON COMMANDER which raced tight outside DIONYSUS COLLIN. After this, DRAGON COMMANDER was steadied to obtain cover.
For some distance after the 1300 Metres, SHADOW BREAKER travelled very keenly in the lead.
Approaching and passing the 600 Metres, DIONYSUS COLLIN and PERFECT TO PLAY raced very tight as PERFECT TO PLAY shifted out from behind SALTO OLIMPICO which gave ground abruptly. A veterinary inspection of SALTO OLIMPICO which finished tailed out immediately following the race revealed the horse to be displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, SALTO OLIMPICO will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the 600 Metres, SPEED FORCE momentarily raced in restricted room inside RULE THEE which lay in.
Near the 450 Metres, SPEED FORCE and DRAGON COMMANDER raced tight and bumped as SPEED FORCE attempted to shift out from behind HOME WIN.
Rounding the Home Turn, PRETTY BAUHINIA shifted out and brushed the hindquarters of PARTY TOGETHER.
Passing the 300 Metres, PRETTY BAUHINIA got its head on the side and was inclined to lay in behind SHADOW BREAKER.
When questioned, M F Poon stated that he was instructed to ride PLAY WISE positively in the early stages and obtain a forward position. He said it was expected that SHADOW BREAKER, which was drawn immediately inside PLAY WISE, would be ridden forward to lead and the opportunity presented itself to shift over with that horse and race to its outside. He said after beginning only fairly he rode his mount along for some distance in the early stages in order to comply with his instructions, however, PLAY WISE did not show any early speed. He said approaching the winning post on the first occasion he elected to shift PLAY WISE in behind HOME WIN and obtain cover, however, passing the winning post on the first occasion RULE THEE maintained its position outside DIONYSUS COLLIN and inside the heels of PLAY WISE and for this reason he was not able to shift in behind HOME WIN. He said this resulted in PLAY WISE being left racing four wide and without cover approaching the 1300 Metres. He said rather than continue to race very wide, he elected to allow his mount to stride forward in the hope that he would be able to gradually improve his position to race outside SHADOW BREAKER, however, PLAY WISE did not show sufficient speed to cross PARTY TOGETHER which was racing outside and behind SHADOW BREAKER and this resulted in PLAY WISE racing three wide and without cover for the majority of the race.
A veterinary inspection of PERFECT TO PLAY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
DIONYSUS COLLIN and PRETTY BAUHINIA were sent for sampling.

Race:3 (672) TAI SHING STREAM HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1650 m

C Schofield was dislodged from BLOOMING SPIRIT behind the barriers without incident.
UNIVERSAL GO GO shifted out at the start and bumped FOCUS. UNIVERSAL GO GO consequently became unbalanced, shifted in and bumped PLIKCLONE, resulting in UNIVERSAL GO GO being inconvenienced. After this, UNIVERSAL GO GO was ridden along and near the 1600 Metres was steadied away from the heels of FOCUS which shifted in.
V CHEVALIERS was checked shortly after the start when crowded for room between NITRO EXPRESS and FAITHFUL TRINITY which got its head up on a number of occasions and shifted in away from THE DRIVE when being steadied to obtain cover from a wide barrier. THE DRIVE was also shifted across behind runners from a wide barrier in the early stages.
Passing the 450 Metres, PLIKCLONE momentarily raced in restricted room inside SEIZE THE SPIRIT which got its head on the side and lay in.
Approaching the 100 Metres, PLIKCLONE got its head on the side and shifted out under pressure, requiring its rider to stop riding and straighten his mount and change the whip over into his left hand.
When questioned, M F Poon stated that he was instructed to obtain cover on FAITHFUL TRINITY from a wide barrier. He said it was not specifically mentioned where the horse should be ridden to obtain this cover, however, it was impressed upon him that he must obtain cover if at all possible. He said on jumping FAITHFUL TRINITY got its head up and then shifted in abruptly which resulted in the horse continuing to get its head up for some distance. He said FAITHFUL TRINITY continued to race awkwardly in the run to the first turn until he was able to obtain cover behind NITRO EXPRESS after which the horse commenced to race more tractably. Mr R Gibson, the trainer of FAITHFUL TRINITY, advised the Stewards that FAITHFUL TRINITY had been racing disappointingly of late when ridden in a forward position and therefore he asked Jockey Poon to ensure the horse to be ridden more quietly tonight in the hope that it would finish off the race better than it had of late. He said FAITHFUL TRINITY again raced disappointingly tonight.
A veterinary inspection of THE DRIVE and AMAZING LUCK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of NITRO EXPRESS immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported.
LIGHTNING STEED and FOCUS were sent for sampling.

Race:4 (673) KAM TIN RIVER HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1000 m

Passing the 600 Metres, ALLIED AGILITY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of CLASSIC UNICORN and then made the turn after the 600 Metres awkwardly, resulting in BE READY being awkwardly placed outside the heels of ALLIED AGILITY. As this was occurring, BE READY became badly unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by G UNIT which also made the turn after the 600 Metres awkwardly.
Throughout the race, FLYING GENIUS travelled wide and without cover and then lay out rounding the Home Turn.
KING’S EMINENCE made the Home Turn awkwardly and shifted out.
Passing the 250 Metres, the whip of C Y Ho (JOLLY GOOD HEART) became entangled in the reins as he was changing the whip over into his right hand.
Passing the 200 Metres, ALLIED AGILITY raced tight inside VERY SWEET ORANGE.
After the race, J Moreira stated that EXPLOSIVE WITNESS’ failure to finish off the race could be attributed to the manner in which the horse over-raced after being ridden along in the early stages. A veterinary inspection of EXPLOSIVE WITNESS immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ALLIED AGILITY, Apprentice K H Chan stated that it was anticipated that tonight’s race would be run at a fast tempo and therefore he should obtain a trailing position behind the speed if possible. He said after being ridden along in the early stages ALLIED AGILITY became unbalanced near the 800 Metres when racing tight between VERY SWEET ORANGE and CLASSIC UNICORN. He said after shifting ALLIED AGILITY behind the eventual winner and leader CLASSIC UNICORN near the 700 Metres, ALLIED AGILITY lay out and then after being placed under pressure in the Straight did not finish off the race as anticipated. He added ALLIED AGILITY may not have appreciated being amongst runners as when he had ridden the horse previously over the 1000 Metre course at Sha Tin, ALLIED AGILITY, from an inside barrier, was able to race on its own and at its last start he noted that the horse was successful after racing three wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of ALLIED AGILITY immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, ALLIED AGILITY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
EXPLOSIVE WITNESS, CLASSIC UNICORN and BE READY were sent for sampling.

Near the 550 Metres, ARES got its head up when awkwardly placed behind GOLDEN GLORY. After the 500 Metres, ARES, which was travelling keenly, again got its head up when racing close to the heels of GOLDEN GLORY, resulting in ARES shifting in and causing LUCKY QUALITY to be tightened. ARES then improved into tight running inside GOLDEN GLORY near the 450 Metres, causing LUCKY QUALITY to again race tight inside ARES.
SO GLORIOUS lay out rounding the Home Turn.
Passing the 300 Metres, LUCKY QUALITY was bumped by ARES which got its head on the side and lay in.
AMAZING had some difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 150 Metres.
When questioned, Mr C W Chang, the trainer of HAPPY WINNER, stated that he added Sheepskin Cheek Pieces to the gear carried by the horse in the hope that it may be able to obtain a more prominent position in the early stages. He said two starts ago HAPPY WINNER had performed well when able to be ridden in a position forward of midfield and he had hoped that from a wide barrier HAPPY WINNER may be able to obtain a position behind the speed if possible. He said however, due to the circumstances of the race, HAPPY WINNER was left racing wide and without cover throughout due to the horses to the inside of HAPPY WINNER maintaining their position. He said wherever possible it is his intention to have HAPPY WINNER ridden in a forward position and preferably with cover at its future starts. A veterinary inspection of HAPPY WINNER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of HERO TIME immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

H T Mo (MULTIMAX) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 1100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of THE SHOW, resulting in that horse having to be checked and losing the running to which it was rightfully entitled. H T Mo was suspended from riding in races for the racemeeting to be conducted at Sha Tin on Sunday, 31 May 2020. As such, H T Mo is eligible to resume race riding on Monday, 1 June 2020. Approaching the 200 Metres, BRAVE KING was shifted in away from the heels of CHAIRMAN LO to obtain clear running.
After the race, N Callan was not able to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of WIND GLIDER. A veterinary inspection of WIND GLIDER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Also after the race, K Teetan stated that after being ridden along in the early stages to obtain a position outside the lead from a wide barrier, CHAIRMAN LO would not settle and travelled too keenly. He said because of this CHAIRMAN LO was then not able to finish off the race in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of CHAIRMAN LO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of GREEN REIGN, J Moreira stated that, from the outside barrier, he was asked to shift the horse across behind runners in the early stages as GREEN REIGN had previously performed well when ridden by him in this manner. He said after shifting GREEN REIGN across behind runners, the horse travelled well in the early and middle stages. He said he was following SMART COUSIN passing the 600 Metres when that horse came under pressure and as SMART COUSIN was not taking him into the race, he shifted GREEN REIGN out from behind that horse in an endeavour to commence improving his position. He said GREEN REIGN initially quickened satisfactorily but after making the Home Turn wide came under pressure from the 300 Metres and then did not finish off the race over the concluding stages. A veterinary inspection of GREEN REIGN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of GREEN REIGN, favourite for tonight’s race, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GREEN REIGN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

He said after beginning satisfactorily he immediately noticed a considerable number of horses, which were drawn better than LITTLE BIRD, being aggressively ridden and as he formed the view that LITTLE BIRD may be left racing wide, he elected in the early stages to follow CALIFORNIADEEPSHOT across and obtain cover. Mr P F Yiu, the trainer of LITTLE BIRD, confirmed the instructions and stated that he was satisfied with Jockey Leung’s decision to steady LITTLE BIRD in the early stages even though his instructions were for the horse to obtain a more forward position. K C Leung was told that his explanation would be reported, however, he must ensure that he gives his mounts adequate opportunity in the early stages to comply with his instructions. A veterinary inspection of LITTLE BIRD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

He said AMAZING STAR came under pressure prior to the 400 Metres and did not quicken as well as SHINING ACE which was racing to its inside. He said AMAZING STAR came under heavy pressure in the early part of the Straight and then despite being ridden out did not finish off the race and weakened noticeably over the concluding stages. He added after the race AMAZING STAR became unbalanced, however, the horse felt sound in its action.
