Race:1 (519) WATERFALL BAY HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 1650 m

CHIU CHOW KID and GREAT SMART bumped on jumping.
Soon after the start, BUNDLE OF ENERGY shifted in, resulting in VICTORY SONG being taken in onto DIVINE POWER which was inconvenienced.
From the outside barrier, MISCHIEVOUS SUNDAE was steadied soon after the start and shifted across behind runners.
After the 1300 Metres, DIVINE POWER was steadied when momentarily tightened for room by VIRTUS STAR which shifted in marginally before being directed back out.
For some distance after passing the 600 Metres, GALAXY RACER raced tight between BUNDLE OF ENERGY and TARGET FINDER which commenced to lose ground. All three runners became unbalanced due to making contact.
MISCHIEVOUS SUNDAE lost its left front plate after the 400 Metres.
When questioned, M Chadwick stated that although it was intended to lead on GREAT HARVEST, TARGET FINDER showed superior speed from its inside barrier which required him to race to the outside of that horse. He said GREAT HARVEST tended to race a little keenly in the early stages and therefore when TARGET FINDER commenced to come under pressure in the Back Straight, he allowed his mount to stride forward into the lead hoping that it would travel better. He added however that after assuming the lead he was then quickly challenged by WONDERFUL TIGER after the 600 Metres at which stage GREAT HARVEST came under immediate pressure and then failed to respond to his riding from that point. He said the only excuse he could offer was that GREAT HARVEST may not have handled the pressure of the race when racing at Happy Valley at the first time of asking. A veterinary inspection of GREAT HARVEST immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of TARGET FINDER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
GALAXY RACER, WONDERFUL TIGER and VIRTUS STAR were sent for sampling.

Race:2 (520) TIN WAN HANDICAP (Sec2) Class 4 1650 m

PLIKCLONE was slow to begin.
From a wide barrier. HAPPY WARRIOR was steadied on jumping and shifted across behind runners.
Approaching the 1200 Metres, PRETTY BAUHINIA commenced to prove difficult to settle and got its head up for a short distance.
BEST ALLIANCE travelled wide and without cover from after passing the winning post on the first occasion until the 600 Metres.
Approaching and passing the 1000 Metres, KANBEKI MOLLY travelled keenly and was steadied away from the heels of CASA DE FORCA.
When the pace slackened approaching the 800 Metres, SHINEALOT was steadied away from the heels of KANBEKI MOLLY. At the same stage, PRETTY BAUHINIA was awkwardly placed behind NUNCHUKS. PLIKCLONE, which was following PRETTY BAUHINIA, was inconvenienced.
HOME WIN travelled wide and without cover from the 700 Metres.
G van Niekerk (BEST ALLIANCE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that at the 600 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of MURRAY’S PARTNERS, causing that horse to be severely checked and tightened onto the hindquarters of CASA DE FORCA which was also inconvenienced as a consequence. When MURRAY’S PARTNERS was checked, NUNCHUKS was obliged to shift out to avoid that horse. G van Niekerk was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 15 April 2020 and to expire on Thursday, 23 April 2020 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, G van Niekerk was fined $120,000.
After leaving the 600 Metres, AMAZING SATCHMO (C Schofield) got its head on the side and commenced to lay in, resulting in PRETTY BAUHINIA being crowded for room and being steadied. Whilst the Stewards accepted that AMAZING SATCHMO’s racing manners had been the principal cause of the incident, nonetheless C Schofield was advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to make a more timely effort to prevent his mounts from shifting ground.
The Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reason for V Borges being dislodged from PRETTY BAUHINIA when it clipped the heels of KANBEKI MOLLY just prior to the 200 Metres. This matter was adjourned due to the fact that evidence was not able to be taken from V Borges who, after initially being passed fit to continue riding, was stood down by the Chief Medical Officer and taken to hospital for further assessment following his ride in Race 3. When V Borges was dislodged, MURRAY’S PARTNERS, which was giving ground, was obliged to shift out to avoid the fallen rider. A veterinary inspection of PRETTY BAUHINIA immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The post-race veterinary examination of KANBEKI MOLLY revealed that horse to have sustained abrasions to its left hind leg above the hock and to the tendon. The post-race veterinary examination of KANBEKI MOLLY including an endoscopic examination also showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, KANBEKI MOLLY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the race, Z Purton stated that he was forced to make a deal of use of MURRAY’S PARTNERS to take up a forward position as instructed from its outside barrier. He said in the middle stages MURRAY’S PARTNERS travelled reasonably outside the leader CASA DE FORCA, however, when BEST ALLIANCE improved its position to the outside of MURRAY’S PARTNERS approaching the 700 Metres, MURRAY’S PARTNERS did not respond to his riding to go with that horse and after being checked at the 600 Metres, MURRAY’S PARTNERS came under heavy pressure before compounding in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of MURRAY’S PARTNERS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of MURRAY’S PARTNERS, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MURRAY’S PARTNERS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
BEST ALLIANCE and HAPPY WARRIOR were sent for sampling.

ISLAND WINNER made the turn after the 600 Metres awkwardly and shifted out, inconveniencing WINNING WAYS and ZERO HEDGE.
NOBLE DESIRE had some difficulty obtaining clear running approaching and passing the 200 Metres and then at the 150 Metres was shifted out across the heels of FARM BUMPER to obtain a run.
After being awkwardly placed behind OVERSUBSCRIBED approaching the 150 Metres, WINNING WAYS then attempted to improve into tight running between that horse and ZERO HEDGE which improved quickly to its outside at the 100 Metres. After leaving the 100 Metres, WINNING WAYS was then steadied as a result of ZERO HEDGE (G van Niekerk) shifting in under pressure. As a consequence, WINNING WAYS remained held up and was unable to be tested over the concluding stages. As the Stewards found that WINNING WAYS had not properly established running between OVERSUBSCRIBED and ZERO HEDGE, no further action was taken other than to reprimand G van Niekerk who was advised that he must ensure that he makes every endeavour to keeps his mounts straight.
Throughout the race, OVERSUBSCRIBED travelled wide and without cover.
Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of V Borges, the rider of the 4th placegetter, NOBLE DESIRE, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse’s finishing position, he will nonetheless be reminded of his obligation to ensure that he rides his mounts out fully to the end of the race.
A veterinary inspection of WIN FOR YOUTH and ISLAND WINNER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

When making ground to the outside of UNIVERSAL GO GO which shifted out passing the 500 Metres, GREEN DISPATCH attempted to savage UNIVERSAL GO GO. This matter was drawn to the attention of Trainer C S Shum who was advised that whilst GREEN DISPATCH had been reported to have attempted to savage other runners on two previous occasions, given that the latest occurrence was in 2017 and that GREEN DISPATCH had since participated in 12 races, a warning would be placed on the horse. Mr Shum was however advised that should GREEN DISPATCH offend in a similar manner in the near future, further action may be taken.

A veterinary inspection of GREEN DISPATCH immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
