GENERAL
 
Stewards approved the following overweight allowance at today’s meeting-
 
Race 5- APRIL RAIN- J McDonald +1kg.
 
Race 1: PLAY GOLD COAST BENCHMARK 78 Handicap 1400 metres
 
SNOWFIRE – Began awkwardly.
 
ADMUND BOY – Slow to begin.
 
MIX – Jockey S Collett could offer no explanation for the performance of the gelding which weakened in the home straight other than it may not have been suited by the heavy track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a poor post-race recovery.
 
SIBAAQ – Began awkwardly. Jockey J McDonald was reprimanded for using his whip excessively during the event, that being on 16 occasions AR132(5).  
 
AHEADOFHISTIME – Due to transport difficulties, Jockey K McEvoy was unable to arrive on course to fulfil his engagement. Subsequently Jockey M Du Plessis was the replacement rider for the gelding. Rounding the home turn, was forced to steady when awkwardly placed at heels.
 
SELEQUE – Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.
 
SNITZIFY – Momentarily raced in restricted room and eased near the 900m. Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.
 
JACK THE LAD – Began awkwardly.
 
Race 2: ACCURATE ROAD PROFILING BAT OUT OF HELL 900 metres
 
The start was delayed when ARCHER’S PARADOX was reshod upon arrival at the barriers after casting its near-fore plate.
 
USMANOV – Began awkwardly and then tightened for room shortly after the start. Laid in during the early stages and near the 800m was bumped on the hind-quarters and became unbalanced.
 
REMLAPS GEM – Began awkwardly.
 
ESTA LA ROCA – When questioned in relation to the improved performance from its most recent start at Eagle Farm on the 16th of April 2022, trainer L Kennewell advised that the mare had good form prior to this start however when unable to secure a flight the stable was forced to float the mare to Queensland by road. As a consequence of this the stable felt the mare raced flat at Eagle Farm due to the travel required and further may not have been entirely suited by the firm racing surface on that occasion. Mr Kennewell added that the mare had pleased the stable following that event and based on its prior form with the exception of last start, had expected a forward showing in today’s event.
 
LYRICAL GIRL – Jockey W Pike reported in his opinion the mare failed to handle the prevailing track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a poor post-race recovery.
 
DUCHESS – Slow into stride.
 
SAN ANTONIO – Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
 
ARCHER'S PARADOX – Cast a near-fore plate on the way to the barriers.
 
Race 3: XXXX GOLD COAST CUP 2400 metres
 
The start was delayed when TAVION PRINCE was reshod upon arrival at the barriers after casting its near-fore plate.
 
ALAKAHAN – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground.
 
LE BAOL – Jockey W Pike was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the gelding which he advised failed to quicken from the 700m when asked to improve. Co-trainer C Maher advised that in light of todays performance the stable will now monitor the manner in which the gelding recovers from today’s performance and should no obvious abnormality present that may have explained today’s performance, the gelding will most likely be spelled. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. A swab sample was taken.
 
TAVION PRINCE – Cast a near-fore plate on the way to the barriers.
 
YOUNGBLOOD – After being caught wide in the early stages, was ridden forward by its rider to obtain a position outside the leader near the 1400m.
 
DUNHILL – Slow into stride.
 
SOPRANO SUPREME – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground.
 
Race 4: TAB KEN RUSSELL MEMORIAL CLASSIC 1200 metres
 
ALLUDE – Began awkwardly.
 
NETTUNO – Jockey R Maloney was fined $500 for returning to scale in excess of 0.5kg overweight. AR211(1). In assessing penalty stewards were mindful of jockey Maloney’s prior good record in relation to this rule.
 
FEARLESS KNIGHT – Began awkwardly.
 
STROLL – Began awkwardly.
 
MIDNIGHT IN TOKYO – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
Race 5: ATTWOOD MARSHALL LAWYERS SILK STOCKING1400 metres
 
YAMAZAKI – Jumped with its head in the air, losing ground at the start and as a result settled further back than anticipated.
 
BONHAM – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor-post race recovery.
 
DZSENIFER – Bumped on the hind-quarter rounding the home turn and became unbalanced.
 
APRIL RAIN – Slow into stride. Raced three-wide without cover for the majority.
 
ADELASE – Near the 350m, was steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of STOLEN JADE which shifted in and away from WINTER RAIN.
 
ENTERPRISE KEREN – Bumped heavily on jumping.
 
STOLEN JADE – Laid in under pressure for the majority of the home straight. Near the 200m, momentarily raced in restricted room and was eased.
 
ZAC ATTACK – Shifted out on jumping and made heavy contact with another runner. Raced three-wide with cover for the majority. Trainer D Joice reported that in light of todays performance, it is now the intention for the mare to be retired.
 
GIULIA – Began awkwardly. Near the 350m, momentarily raced in restricted room and was eased.  Lost its near-fore plate in running.
 
DANCING DOLLARB – Trainer S Kavanagh was fined $300 for the late rider notification of S Thornton as the rider of the mare. LR67. Slow to begin. Raced three-wide with cover for the majority.
 
Race 6: JOHNNIE WALKER GOLD COAST BRACELET 1800 metres
 
GYPSY GODDESS – Raced three-wide with cover for the majority.
 
MOKULUA – Raced three-wide without cover for the majority.
 
CANADIAN DANCER – After being caught wide in the early stages, was allowed to stride forward by its rider to obtain the leading position near the 1400m.
 
SECRET TALES – Began awkwardly.
 
DYNASTIES – Raced three-wide with cover for the majority.
 
TAIZAI – Raced three-wide with cover for the majority.
 
OUR BELLE FILLE – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in both fore legs. Trainer P Robl was advised they would be required to obtain a veterinary certificate for the filly prior to it next racing.
 
MUM'S THE BOSS – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground.
 
Race 7: BRANDONS GOLD COAST GUINEAS 1200 metres
 
PRINCE OF BOOM – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
ZETHUS – Raced wide with cover throughout.
 
ZARASTRO – Raced wide with cover throughout.
 
FOUR MOVES AHEAD – Slow to begin. Raced wide with cover throughout. Jockey K McEvoy reported that from the wide gate he was forced to settle further back in the field than he had hoped. Jockey McEvoy added that the filly was forced to travel wide, however, did have cover during the event and when bearing in mind its position in running was satisfied with the manner in which the filly finished the race off in the home straight.
 
RHAPSODY ROSE – Jumped in the air at the start and lost ground.
 
MAYROSE – Slow to begin.
 
EMMY REGINA – Slow to begin.
 
Race 8: TAB A.D. HOLLINDALE STAKES 1800 metres
 
ZAAKI – Near the 1600m, was bumped on the hind-quarters by another runner.
 
KOLDING – Lost its near-fore plate in running. Passing the 1600m, steadied when awkwardly placed on heels.
 
AYRTON – When question in relation to the below market expectation performance jockey H Bowman reported that the gelding over raced and raced on its wrong leg during the middle stages of the event which in his opinion was the major contributing factor to the poor performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be mildly lame in the near-foreleg. The trainer’s representative for the Price/Kent jnr stable was advised they would be required to obtain a veterinary certificate for the gelding prior to it next racing. A swab sample was taken.
 
KUKERACHA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
HUETOR – Slow to begin.
 
Race 9: AUSTRALIAN TURF CLUB TROPHY 1200 metres
 
Following rainfall subsequent to the running of race 8, the track was downgraded to a heavy 9.
 
MASS DESTRUCTION – Declared a late scratching at 2:30pm by order of the stewards after exceeding to a request from trainer T Gollan to scratch the gelding due to the deteriorating track conditions.
 
DESERT LORD – Jockey T Marshall reported that in his opinion the gelding did not handle todays track conditions.
 
SHOOTING FOR GOLD – Raced ungenerously in the early stages whilst being restrained. Jockey B Thompson reported that in his opinion the gelding did not handle todays track conditions.
 
SIMPLY FLY – Slow to begin.
