Approaching the 300m was eased away from the heels of Don'ttelltheboss which had shifted out. Rider Damien Oliver reported his mount raced flat and in his opinion would be better suited on tracks with more give. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Mrs Beckham (NZ) Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

Don'ttelltheboss Near the 200m shifted out and was steadied to avoid the heels of Snickerdoodledandy (J. Kah) which was laying in under pressure. Jamie Kah was notified to ensure she keeps her mounts straight in similar circumstances.

Petruchio (IRE) Underwent a veterinary examination upon arrival on course, having not raced since February 2020 and was passed suitable to race.

Beehunter Change of tactics: more forward from inside barrier. Settled in a handy position. Rider Damien Oliver reported that his mount, which was second up today, raced plain. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Darlamax Began awkwardly, shifted in and made heavy contact with Denero.

Chief Altony Began awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and made heavy contact with Denero. Passing the 1000m brushed with Just Folk on a number of occasions due to both horses shifting ground slightly to obtain running behind Thought Of That. Maritana Shortly after the start shifted in and made contact with Beehunter.

Just Folk Raced wide without cover from the 900m. Rider Michael Dee advised that being caught wide in the early stages was detrimental to his mount's chances. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Thought Of That Brushed on a number of occasions approaching the 300m by Maritana which had shifted out to obtain clear running to the outside of Left Hand Man before then obtaining that running. Race 5 VRC MEMBER THOROLD GUNNERSEN AM - 1400 metres:

Harlech (NZ) Hampered at the start by Rox The Castle (NZ) which shifted out abruptly.

Aramayo Passing the 1200m got its head up when being restrained to settle at the rear of the field. Held up for clear running from the 300m until the 150m. Steadied near the 250m to avoid the heels of Galaxy Raider (M. Dee) which shifted out. Michael Dee was notified to exercise more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances in future. Stewards questioned rider Damien Thornton with respect to whether he had running between Galaxy Raider and All Too Huiying approaching the 250m prior to Galaxy Raider shifting out. Damien Thornton explained that whilst he had been held up prior to this, he was then reluctant to ride his mount between All Too Huiying and Galaxy Raider as, in his mind, Galaxy Raider was always looking to shift out. He added that Aramayo takes time to build momentum which contributed to him being initially reluctant to take this run. Whilst accepting his explanation, Stewards notified Damien Thornton that he should take all runs which present when reasonable to do so.

Rox The Castle (NZ) Weakened from the 300m. Rider Luke Currie could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post‑race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.

Cumberbatch Passing the 100m was steadied when making ground between Mark Of The Man (IRE) and Michigan which had been taken out by Four Leaf Riot.

Mark Of The Man (IRE) Rider Mark Zahra reported the gelding would be better suited over a longer distance than today's 1400 metres and in his opinion would appreciate tracks with more give. The Big Easy Held up for clear running from the 350m until shifting back towards the inside passing the 200m.

A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with the stable.

Sugartown Rider Damian Lane reported the filly raced keenly in the early and middle stages which was detrimental to its chances. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with the stable.

Mark Zahra was also fined $600. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account his guilty plea, record, the totality of whip strikes (13) and the fact that he placed 2nd.

Declares War Apprentice Campbell Rawiller reported after beginning only fairly, his mount had to work hard in the early stages and, coupled with the high weight impost, this resulted in the gelding failing to finish the race off. Stewards will follow up with the stable.
