Race 1 SUMMER TWILIGHT SERIES PLATE - 1000 metres:

Cardinal Gem Slow to begin.

Thumani Began awkwardly.

Telegraph Began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with Telluride.

Chameleon Choice Hung out from the 600m.

Shame For Fame Performed below market expectations. Rider Jamie Kah could offer no explanation for the performance. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 2 THE MUMM ROYALE - 1400 metres:

Siren Rock Slow into stride. Disappointed for clear running near the 450m between Hickok and The Marg Factor for several strides before then shifting back in and again held up for clear running from the 100m until passing the 50m. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Zac De Boss (NZ) Laid in under pressure in the straight. Rider Damien Thornton could offer no explanation for the performance. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Milton Park Near the 150m bumped with El Salto due to both horses shifting ground slightly.

Hickok Hampered passing the 100m by Siren Rock which, when held up, shifted out to avoid the heels of Zac De Boss (NZ).

Race 3 FURPHY CRISP LAGER HANDICAP - 1600 metres:

Make Mine Hennessy Slow to begin.

Tea Tales Raced three wide without cover.

Lady D'Oro Rider Matthew Allen reported he was slightly held up for running passing the 400m before then shifting in towards the rail to follow the eventual winner, Island Joy (NZ).

White Hibiscus Slow to begin. Approaching the 600m shifted out across heels at the rear of the field to obtain clear running to the outside of Song Brocade. Performed below market expectations ($1.55 favourite). Rider Damian Lane reported the mare was disappointing from passing the 150m and in his view was not suited by having to settle at the rear of the field and then shift out wide as early as the 600m to obtain clear running. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. A swab sample was taken for analysis. Stable representative Ben Gleeson reported the mare had worked well leading into the race today and on return to the stable could not detect any abnormalities.

Leveraged When questioned, apprentice Matthew Cartwright reported he was held up for clear running from the 450m. He added he was committed to the inside of the heels of Song Brocade at the top of the straight and was therefore unable to shift out for clear running. He added in hindsight it would have been preferable to remain behind Island Joy (NZ) from the 600m, but at the time felt the better option was to shift out from behind Island Joy (NZ) in search of clear running. Near the 200m was checked when disappointed for clear running between Make Mine Hennessy, which had been brushed in slightly by White Hibiscus, and Tea Tales which was taken out slightly by Part Time Lover and Ocean's Thirteen (NZ) which had shifted out.

Song Brocade Taken out off its course at the 100m by Leveraged which shifted out.

Race 4 GRINDERS COFFEE TROPHY - 1600 metres:

Saccharo Change of tactics: more forward. Settled midfield.

Hostile Takeover Hampered shortly after the start when bumped by Major Gowen.

Hunamosa (NZ) Led and weakened from the 200m. Apprentice Matthew Cartwright stated he had not intended to settle in the lead, however after he was obliged to stride forward in the early stages, he then comfortably settled more forward than intended. He added that the gelding would be better suited ridden with cover. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Apprentice Matthew Cartwright was fined $300 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on nine occasions prior to the 100 metres which is four more than permitted. Stewards took into account his good record and totality of whip strikes (11).

Murganella Weakened from passing the 200m. Rider Daniel Moor could offer no explanation for the performance. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Westbrook Park Performed below market expectations, although did make ground over the concluding stages. Rider Damian Lane could offer no explanation for the performance. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Royal Dragon Rider Damien Oliver reported the gelding may not have appreciated the step up in class today. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 5 TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY SPRINT - 1100 metres:

Zooming Zebra Began awkwardly.

Dream Effort Began awkwardly.

Zacouver (NZ) Weakened from the 250m and was eased down. Rider John Allen stated his mount failed to travel at any stage and when placed under pressure felt amiss and as a result he eased the filly down. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with the stable.

Zoushine Apprentice Will Price reported the filly failed to settle in the early stages and as a result failed to finish off as expected. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Real Feeling Rider Damien Oliver reported the filly raced keenly with the blinkers. A representative of the Warren/Krongold stable reported the filly was showing signs of being in season. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

She's 'N' Effort Rider Jye McNeil reported his mount failed to travel throughout and was inclined to lay in. He added as the filly was well beaten, he eased it down over the final 200 metres. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 6 LEXUS HANDICAP - 2000 metres:

Mushaireb (GB) Resaddled at the barriers.

Runaway Slow to begin. Raced three wide without cover from the 1500m.

Stars Of Carrum Knuckled at the start.

Pacodali (IRE) Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide without cover from passing the 800m.

Influential Girl Held up for clear running from the 450m until the 150m.

Mosh Music Steadied near the 450m when disappointed for clear running between Mushaireb (GB) and Sentimentalist. Rider Jordan Childs reported the mare had every chance and would be suited by a step up in distance.

Pancho Rider Damien Oliver reported the gelding may be better suited back in distance. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 7 CHESTER MANIFOLD STAKES LISTED - 1400 metres:

Polanco Late scratching at 9.22 am, veterinary advice, elevated temperature.

Vassilator (NZ) Steadied shortly after the start was tightened for room between Never Again and Riding The Wave which shifted out. Held up for clear running passing the 200m until approaching the 100m.

Blazejowski Approaching the 1000m shifted in and brushed Riding The Wave before then being restrained back from a three-wide position to take the sit behind Riding The Wave. During this incident Blazejowski got its head up when being restrained.

Riding The Wave Approaching the 1000m became unbalanced when brushed by Blazejowski which shifted in. The gelding then began to over-race. Rider Ethan Brown could offer no explanation for the overall performance. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. A swab sample was taken for analysis.

Coming Around Rider Craig Newitt advised he was instructed to be in the first two and that approaching the 1000m he felt his mount had been galloped on behind which then caused the gelding to race keenly.

Race 8 SEPPELT SALINGER PLATE - 1800 metres:

Donndubhan Late scratching at 12.46 pm, veterinary advice, lacerations to both hind legs en route to course. A veterinary certificate will be required prior to racing again.

Starouz Raced three wide without cover from the 800m. A post‑race veterinary examination revealed a slower than normal recovery rate.

High 'N' Dry Approaching the 400m was disappointed for a run to the outside of Dance Ready before then shifting back to the inside for clear running.

Not Mine (GER) Rider Mark Zahra reported the gelding felt uncomfortable in its action on return to scale. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Garimpeiro Slow to begin. Rider Craig Newitt could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance, however stated that the gelding may not have handled the quick back-up. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Huntly Castle Apprentice Thomas Stockdale pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip 10 times prior to the 100m which is five more than permitted. Thomas Stockdale had his permit to ride in races suspended for a period to commence midnight 16 January 2021 to expire midnight 25 January 2021, a total of 10 race meetings (3 metropolitan and 7 provincial). Thomas Stockdale was also fined $500. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account his guilty plea, good record, totality of whip strikes (19) and that he placed 2nd.

Pres De Toi Raced three wide without cover. Rider Damian Lane reported the mare travelled wide and as a result failed to finish off as expected. A post‑race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the near foreleg. A veterinary certificate will be required prior to racing again.

Animalia Got its head up and over-raced through the early stages. Near the 1500m was steadied to avoid the heels of One For Rocky.

Race 9 KENNEDY SPRINT - 1100 metres:

The General (NZ) Began awkwardly. Rider Jye McNeil reported the horse would improve on today's run, having been first up since May. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Messerschmitt Bounded at the start and was therefore slow to begin. Held up for clear running from the 500m until shifting back in across heels approaching the 100m.

Young Harry Cool Over-raced through the early stages. Passing the 800m got its head up after being brushed by Exeter.

Spirit of Aquada Disappointing. Rider Noel Callow could offer no explanation for the performance. A post‑race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.

That Girl When questioned, rider Daniel Stackhouse reported he was instructed to let the mare find her feet early, as the mare fails to finish her races off if ridden forward. He stated that connections felt That Girl raced too close last start at Caulfield on 26 December 2020. Daniel Stackhouse further added that after allowing the mare to settle in the early stages, she then dropped the bit passing the 900m and raced further back in the field than intended, and took some encouragement to then pick the bit up before he then began to ride the mare along from the 500m. He stated that That Girl steadily made ground from the 500m under his riding.

Wilmot Pass Lost the off fore plate in running.
