Field of 16 for the Dark Jewel Classic

Scone conducts NSW metropolitan racing on Saturday on the second day of the Club’s two-day May Carnival with the $250,000, Group 3 Coolmore Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) for fillies and mares receiving 16 acceptances, plus three emergencies, on Wednesday.

The Caron Maher trained Ruthless Dame (NZ) comes back in class to contest the Cup with the four-year-old Tavistock mare the 2023 Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes winner at Morphettville.

The mare comes to Scone off a fifth place in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes over 1600m at Randwick on April 13th where she was 1 1/2L from the winner Zougotcha. She was second in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes over 1500m at Rosehill on March 30th at her previous start.

Ruthless Dame is the top-weight with 61kg and she has barrier 15.

The Snowden’s have accepted with Ghaanati who was fourth to stablemate Coco Jamboo (IRE) in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Crown over 1300m on May 4th.  Ghaanati carries 58.5kg under Josh Parr and they have barrier one.

The Hawkesbury Crown placegetters Short Shorts (NZ) and Shadows Of Love are accepted with both carrying 54.5kg. Alysha Collett rides Short Shorts with barrier 11 and Tommy Berry is up on Shadows Of Love with barrier five.

TAB have Shadows Of Love as the $3.70 favourite with Ghaanati at $6.50 and Ruthless Dame at $8.50.

The Dark Jewel Classic is Race 8 at 3.10pm.

The support races include four $200,000, Listed events, Race 3 at 12.15pm with the Woodlands Stakes (1100m) with a field of 13 two-year-old fillies; Race 6 at 2.00pm the Yarraman Denise’s Joy Stakes (1100m) with a capacity field of 16 plus three emergencies of three-year-old fillies; Race 7 at 2.35pm the Emirates Park Ortensia Stakes (1100m) with a capacity field of 16 plus two emergencies and Race 9 at 3.50pm with the Scone Equine Hospital Luskin Star Stakes (1300m) with a capacity field of 16 plus four emergencies.

The ten-race programme, with 181 overall acceptances, commences at 11.05am with a field of 16 for the $50,000, Yalumba Midway Bm72 Handicap (1700m).

The track is rated a Soft 6 on Wednesday and the rail will be out 3m from the 800m to the Winning Post and in the True for the remainder of the circuit.

Scone’s weather has partly cloudy days for Thursday, Friday and Saturday with temperatures of 21c, 23c and 17c respectively.
