Feature handicaps at Randwick on Saturday

Racing returns to Randwick on Saturday with ten races headed by the $130,000, At Sea Handicap (1100m) and $130,000, Octagonal Handicap (1400m) with 18 and 22 nominations respectively on Monday.

Godolphin have nominated Andermatt for the At Sea Handicap after his relative failure when the $1.60 favourite for the Listed Luskin Star over 1300m at Scone on May 14th. The four-year-old Snitzel gelding had impressively returned to racing after being gelded with two wins in succession by a combined 9L.

However, after leaving from barrier 10 at Scone he did not settle for Rachel King racing wide throughout the trip. With 54.5kg Andermatt was fourth at the 400m and that was where he stayed finishing 2 1/4L from the winner Flying Crazy with 53kg.

The Waller stable have nominated Written Beauty for the At Sea as well as for the $150,000, Listed Helen Coughlan Stakes (1200m) at the extended Eagle Farm meeting on Saturday. No doubt the stable are hedging the weather with Written Beauty needing Good to Soft track conditions. The four-year-old Written Tycoon mare comes off a win in the Listed Bright Shadow over 1200m at Eagle Farm on May 14th on a Soft 7 track.

The ten race programme has 223 overall nominations.

The track is rated a Heavy 10 on Monday after 19mm of rain in the last 24 hours and 67.2mm for the last seven days. The rail will be in the True position for the entire circuit.

Sydney’s weather this week has showers easing towards the end of the week. Tuesday’s forecast is for a cloudy day, showers with 6mm to 10mm possible and 20c, similar on Wednesday with 5mm to 15mm possible followed by partly cloudy days with 21c into Saturday.
