Favourite ready to explode in TAB South Australian Derby

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Explosive Jack (NZ) has been installed favourite to win Saturday’s $502,250, Group 1 TAB South Australian Derby (2500m) at Morphettville.

TAB traders put up $3.50 about his chances after Tuesday's draw but the Australian and Tasmanian Derby winner has drifted a touch to $3.80.

Explosive Jack drew gate 10 for John Allen for Saturday’s feature with rival Liqueuro scoring barrier six for Luke Currie to be rated at $5.00.

The Jakkalberry colt took an unconventional route to win the Group 1 ATC Derby over 2400m at Randwick on April 10th afetr winning the Listed Tasmanian Derby over 2200m in Februaruy and then placing third in the Group 2 Alister Clarke Stakes over 2040m at The Valley on March 13th followed by a second in the St Leger Trial over 2200m at Bendigo on March 27th. 

Personal has shuffled between $6.00 and $6.50 after drawing barrier 16, while the Mick Price-trained Deepstrike is the only other runner in single figures after coming up with gate nine.
