RACE 1 – Toyota Forklifts Handicap 1550m

Pasima – just prior to the 400m became unbalanced due to pressure on its hindquarter from Spanish Fox.

Miss Chenery – on the first turn commenced to race keenly and was allowed to shift out from behind Resurrected to take up a position outside that runner.

Spanish Fox – just prior to straightening was hampered when racing in restricted room between Pasima and Il Tevere which was shifting out to obtain clear running.

Il Tevere – shortly after the start was momentarily crowded between Miss Chenery and Spanish Fox, both of which shifted ground.  C Schofield reported that the horse was disappointing in the manner in which it closed off in the straight as he expected it to let down well once into clear running at the entrance to the straight.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Resurrected – raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages and close to the finish line became awkwardly placed near the heels of Miss Chenery and as a consequence was not able to be ridden out all the way to the finish line.

Sting In The Tail – Stewards permitted T Clark to ride the filly 1kg over its allotted weight of 54kg.  Began only fairly and was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.  On straightening was steadied from the heels of Spanish Fox.  After passing the 200m was awkwardly placed inside the heels of Seafall which shifted in under pressure.

RACE 2 – James Squire Handicap 1550m

Don Pedro – began awkwardly and shifted out.

Surreal I Am – J Parr reported that the horse was one paced when placed under pressure and in his view was disappointing.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  Stable representative Mr D Greer undertook to report back to Stewards on the post race condition and racing plans in the days subsequent.

Lemaire – began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped Geostorm.

Geostorm – on jumping was bumped by Lemaire which shifted in.  Approaching the 1400m was steadied from the heels of Turned Down (T Berry) which shifted in when not sufficiently clear.        T Berry was advised to exercise more care.  A post race veterinary examination of Geostorm, which weakened in the straight, revealed no abnormalities.

RACE 3 – Ranvet Handicap 1250m

Ballet D’esprit – began awkwardly and lost ground.   Overraced for some distance after leaving the 1000m.  The filly continued to overrace and improved up onto the heels of The Years at the 700m and had to be checked.  Prior to passing the 200m bumped with Diamond Lucy when endeavouring to obtain a run between that horse and The Years.  When The Years then drifted out under pressure approaching the 100m, was directed to the inside of the heels of that runner to continue into clear running.

Bolero Belle – T Berry reported the filly was making a slight respiratory noise through the latter part of the race.  He added that in his view Bolero Belle may have displaced its palate.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Ces Soirees La – at the request of J Ford, underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was deemed suitable to start.  Began awkwardly and lost ground.  Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.  J Ford reported that while he did have concerns with the filly’s action prior to the race, Ces Soirees La appeared to free up in its action and he was content to ride the filly when it was passed fit by the Veterinary Officer.  He said, however, that Ces Soirees La did not stretch out comfortably during the race and for this reason he eased it down in the straight.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame (1/5) in the off foreleg and to have a laceration to the off fore cannon.  Trainer Mr R Quinn was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to Ces Soirees La being permitted to barrier trial or race again.

Disney Castle – K Latham (Ballet D’esprit), pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that approaching the 300m he permitted his mount to shift out when riding it along resulting in Ballet D’esprit applying pressure to Disney Castle which was forced out onto the heels of Diamond Lucy, which was severely checked and blundered.   K Latham's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday, 18 February 2024 and to expire on Thursday, 29 February 2024  on which day he may ride again.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Diamond Lucy – passing the 200m was bumped by Ballet D’esprit (K Latham) which had endeavoured to improve to the outside of the heels of The Years.   K Latham was reprimanded and told to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Unusual Legacy – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  On the home turn became unbalanced and shifted wider after being taken out by runners to its inside.

Zenmaster – laid out rounding the home turn and made contact with Notabadbuy at the 400m.  Just prior to the 300m made contact with Malabar as that runner improved to its inside.

RACE 6 – Kia Evening Star 1250m

Dynamic Impact – raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

Dehorned Unicorn – when questioned, App J Stanley was unable to offer any explanation for the horse's disappointing performance.  He said Dehorned Unicorn settled outside the lead and appeared to travel comfortably, however when under pressure gave no response and weakened in the straight.   A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  Trainer Mr J Pride agreed that Dehorned Unicorn was particularly disappointing and advised Stewards that the horse would leave his stable.

Oxford Vision – began awkwardly.  Making the home turn was forced wider by Marnix.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Rupertaar – soon after the start was steadied when tightened for room between Marnix and Oxford Vision which shifted in after making contact with Elettrica.  When being directed out into clear running at the 250m became momentarily awkward on the heels of Oxford Vision.

Wingardium – when proceeding onto the track, Wingardium propped and threw its head up, striking its rider, J Parr, in the face.  J Parr was examined by the medical officers upon arrival at the start and passed fit to fulfil his riding engagement.

Remedies – T Berry advised that he anticipated settling in a more prominent position, however the filly did not display the necessary speed to do so.
