RACE 1 – Grainshaker Vodka Handicap 1250m

Never Fails– declared a late scratching at 12.32pm acting on veterinary advice.  Stewards ruled that all monies invested on Never Fails be refunded in full and that all successful wagers made prior to 12.32pm be subject to the following deductions in the face value of each ticket.

1st  Alberich                   15 cents win, 14 cents place

2ndArch of Titus             15 cents place

Stewards opened an inquiry following advice from the Club’s veterinary officer that whilst conducting pre-race sampling of the colt, it was identified that Never Fails displayed evidence of having extensive skin lesions to its chest and nearside neck consistent with active ringworm.  Evidence was taken from trainer Mr A Cummings who provided veterinary records that Never Fails was displaying skin lesions consistent with ringworm three weeks prior to today’s event.  He said that Never Fails had received treatment for this condition and he was of the view, after consultation with his stable veterinarian, that the condition was no longer active.  Stewards adjourned the inquiry to enable Mr Cummings to provide the stables’ full veterinary records relating to Never Fails

Pretes– began only fairly.

Roves Pepper– on jumping shifting in abruptly.

Roma Avenue– began awkwardly.  When questioned regarding his riding in the early stages, T Sherry stated that he was instructed to position the gelding in a forward position and as it has had a tendency previously to be slow to begin, he was instructed to ensure the horse began well today.  He said after beginning well, he rode his mount along in the early stages to obtain a forward position.  He said that leaving the 1100m, he attempted to maintain racing to the outside of Cotton Fingers, however Roma Avenue got its head up and commenced to race keenly.  He added that as he had ridden Roma Avenue on a regular basis in trackwork and as he is familiar of its traits, he believed that had he continued to restrain Roma Avenue, it would not have responded to his efforts and rather than have the horse race fiercely for some distance, he allowed it to stride forward whereby the gelding obtained the lead leaving the 800m.  Trainer Mr M Newnham confirmed the instructions given to T Sherry and added that Roma Avenue is a hard going horse and he was not dissatisfied with T Sherry's decision to allow the gelding to stride forward to the lead.

Cotton Fingers– raced keenly in the early stages.  Approaching the 700m was eased from the heels of Roma Avenue (T Sherry) when that runner shifted in when not fully clear.  T Sherry was advised to exercise more care.

Edna– held up rounding the home turn.

Sirens Star– a post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

RACE 4 – Schweppes Plate 1550m

Absurd– the filly, which was fractious prior to the start being effected, began awkwardly.

Tarzoom– began awkwardly and made contact with the nearside partition of the barrier.  Approaching the 1200m made the crossing awkwardly, shifted out and was steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of Grecian Lass.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame (2/5) in the off foreleg.  Trainer Mr J Pride was advised that a veterinary certificate must be provided prior to Tarzoom being permitted to barrier trial or race again.

Keys To Love– began awkwardly and a short distance later had to be steadied from the heels of Kirishi, which shifted in.

Rarzino– slow to begin.  From a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.

RACE 5 – City Tattersalls Group Handicap 1900m

Zachaz– slow to begin (2L).  A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame (4/5) in the near foreleg.  After receiving treatment on course, Zachaz was transported to Randwick Equine Centre for further assessment. Trainer Mr J Drake was advised that a veterinary certificate must be provided prior to Zachaz barrier trialling to the satisfaction of Stewards.  Mr Drake undertook to report back on the post race condition of Zachaz in the days subsequent.

Tudor Prince– began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with Atonement.  Near the 1100m shifted out abruptly before being corrected by its rider.

Atonement– began awkwardly and shortly after was bumped by Tudor Prince which shifted out.

Tidal Creek– after passing the winning post on the first occasion, was steadied from the heels of Reach Beyond (R Jones) which shifted in when not fully clear.  R Jones was reprimanded.  When the tempo slackened in the middle stages, the colt was shifted to the outside of Reach Beyond and was then allowed to stride forward whereby Tidal Creek assumed the lead near the 700m.

Reach Beyond– a post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

RACE 6 – Ghaiyyath @ Darley Handicap 1200m

Adelaide's Light– slow to begin.

Time Raid– began awkwardly.  Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

Marooniyah– began awkwardly.  W Costin, rider of Royal Banquet, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that approaching the 900m, she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Marooniyah resulting in that runner having to be checked when crowded between Royal Banquet and No Laughing Matter.   W Costin's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Wednesday, 29 June 2022 and to expire on Thursday, 7 July 2022 on which day she may ride again.  Marooniyah then raced keenly throughout the middle stages.

Stormy Rock– when the pace slackened in the middle stages, was steadied from the heels of Marooniyah.

No Laughing Matter– after being crossed by Snitzonfire leaving the 1000m, was crowded by Marooniyah which was taken in and as a consequence commenced to overrace and was steadied from the heels of Snitzonfire

Jailbreak– G Buckley reported that after beginning awkwardly, he was obliged to settle at the rear of the field which was further back than intended.  He added that in the middle stages, whilst settling at the rear of the field, the tempo of the race slackened which in his view did not suit Jailbreak and as a result, Jailbreak was left flat footed when the remainder of the field quickened from the 600m.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Snitzonfire– T Clark reported that the gelding failed to muster early speed despite his efforts.  He added that after having to ride his mount along aggressively in the early and middle stages, Snitzonfire was left without a finishing effort.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
