_______________________________________
RACE 1: Blue Point @ Darley Handicap 1100m:
Almighty Rising – Laid out under pressure over the final 300m.
Dragonstone – Bounded on jumping, then was shifted behind runners in the early stages from its wide
barrier. Approaching the 100m was inconvenienced and taken wider when Almighty Rising shifted out
under pressure.
Wheel – Began awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with Fangirl.
Authentic Jewel – Began awkwardly. Near the 900m was eased to avoid the heels of Almighty Rising
(T. Berry), which shifted in when not clear. T. Berry was advised to exercise more care. After being
crossed by Almighty Rising Authentic Jewel then race keenly for a short distance.
Celtic Harp – Laid out under pressure over the final 200m.
Fangirl – Slow to begin and shortly after the start was steadied when crowded for room by Wheel,
which shifted in after beginning awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Held up rounding the
home turn and in the early part of the straight. Approaching the 150m was steadied from the heels of
Authentic Jewel and was obliged to shift to the inside of that runner and Celtic Harp whereby the filly
secured clear running approaching the 100m.
RACE 2: Vinery Stud Plate 1100m:
Chalkley – Held up rounding the home turn.
Ibaraki – Approaching the 50m shifted in abruptly under pressure.
Smarty Lee – Slow to begin and from the outside barrier then was shifted behind runners in the early
stages.
Texcel – The Maher-Eustace stable, represented by Mr J. Bruce, was fined $200 under LR35(2) for
failing to declare H. Bowman as the rider of the gelding by the prescribed time. On jumping was bumped
by Wasserman, which shifted out. Over the final 20m could not be fully ridden out when awkwardly
positioned at the heels of Chalkley, which shifted out. When questioned regarding the gelding settling
at the rear of the field, rider H. Bowman stated that he was issued no specific instructions from the
stable as to where to position his mount today. He said that after beginning satisfactorily he was neutral
on the gelding in the initial stages and when he considered the pace of the race in the early stages to
be reasonable, to avoid being caught wide and without cover he steadied Texcel and took up a position
at the rear of the field. In electing to ride his mount in this manner, he was mindful when he rode Texcel
at its most recent start at Gold Coast on 16 January 2021 when ridden prominently that the gelding did
not finish off its race.
Preemptory – The colt, which sustained an abrasion to its nearside hip on the morning of Monday
7 June 2021, was examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer and deemed suitable to race. Began only
fairly. Laid out from the 600m until entering the straight. Near the 250m was inconvenienced briefly
when Smarty Lee shifted out. Preemptor then continued to lay out under pressure in the straight.
Wasserman – Began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with Texcel. A post-race veterinary
examination of the colt, which raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event, did not reveal
any abnormalities.
RACE 3: XXXX Plate 1250m:
Barrichello – Began awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with Silly Point.
Silly Point – On jumping was bumped on the hindquarter by Barrichello, which shifted in.
Allinthistogether – From the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.
Premosphere – Rider R. King reported that the filly never travelled throughout the event and was
disappointing in the manner in which it finished off its race. She added that in her opinion Premosphere
did not appreciate today’s track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any
abnormalities. Trainer Mr G. Portelli advised that Premosphere will be spelled.
Zariya – Began awkwardly and shifted out, taking Allinthistogether wider. Zariya then was shifted
behind runners in the early stages.
RACE 4: Robrick Lodge Handicap 1100m:
Turnstyle – Began awkwardly.
Calescent – Began awkwardly, shifted out and made slight contact with Miss Fox. Laid out rounding
the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be slow to recover.
Miss Fox – On jumping was bumped by Calescent. Miss Fox then was shifted behind runners in the
early stages.
Irish Angel – Began only fairly.
Pearl Roan – Began only fairly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide and without cover
throughout the event.
RACE 5: China Horse Club Handicap 1100m:
Invincible Lad – Commenced to race keenly in the early stages and near the 800m when crossed by
Stoical had to be steadied to avoid the heels of that runner for some distance.
Stoical – Began awkwardly.
RACE 6: Ranvet Handicap 1550m:
Canyonero – Shortly after the start was crowded for room between Titanium Power, which shifted in.
Canyonero then was shifted behind Dylan’s Romance in the early stages. Raced in restricted room to
the inside of Dylan’s Romance (M. Weir) from the 1000m until passing the 800m. M. Weir was advised
to exercise more care.
Dylan’s Romance – Shortly after the start was crowded for room between The Cartoonist and
Canyonero, which was taken in by Titanium Power. Raced wide and without cover until passing the
1000m where it was able to secure a position with cover behind The Cartoonist. A post-race veterinary
examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr M. Connors undertook to report back on the
racing future for the gelding. On the home turn was momentarily awkwardly placed near the heels of
Canyonero (J. Collett), which shifted out to improve. J. Collett will be interviewed relative to this incident
and also for leaving the course without seeking the permission of the Stewards.
Titanium Power – Due to the effects of wasting, R. Hutchings was stood down from his ride on the
gelding by the Club’s Doctor. Permission was granted by the Stewards for J. McDonald to be substituted
as the rider. Began awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with Canyonero. Rider J. McDonald
reported that when placed under pressure prior to the home turn his mount became unbalanced,
particularly after being brushed by Wild Chap, which shifted out to improve. He said that the manner in
which his mount commenced to give ground from that point caused him considerable concern regarding
the gelding’s welfare, therefore, did not test his mount and eased it down in the straight. A post-race
veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer Mr J. Pride
was advised that a veterinary clearance, including the results of an ECG, will be required before prior
to Titanium Power having to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before being permitted to race
again.
The Cartoonist – Stewards permitted K. Latham to ride the gelding a half kilogram over its allotted
weight of 55kgs. Shortly after the start was bumped by Dylan’s Romance, which was taken in.
Wild Chap – Shortly after the start was bumped on the hindquarter by The Cartoonist, which was
bumped and taken in by Dylan’s Romance.
RACE 7: TAB Handicap 1900m:
Montserrat – Began awkwardly.
Time Raid – Was not able to be ridden out over the concluding stages when positioned behind Nothing
Compares, which shifted in under pressure.
Onemore Sapphire – Slow to begin. Momentarily held up rounding the home turn. N. Rawiller pleaded
guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on 10 occasions prior to the 100m, five
more than is permitted. Having regard to his record in respect to whip offences, N. Rawiller’s licence to
ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Monday 14 June 2021 and to expire on
Saturday 19 June 2021, on which day he may ride.
Macushla – Began awkwardly and then was shifted behind runners from the outside barrier in the early
stages.
Sir Aglovale – Rider T. Berry reported that he was instructed to settle further forward near mid-field,
however, due to the genuine tempo from the outset of the race, was unable to achieve this and as a
result settled further back than was intended. He added that us mount was one paced when under
pressure in the straight and in his opinion would be better suited over a longer distance. A post-race
veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
Squanto – Began awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with Notabadharada. When questioned
regarding the gelding racing prominently, App. J. Van Overmeire stated that he was instructed to ride
his mount positively in the early stages to take up a more forward position than last start where the
gelding settled behind mid-field. He said that in discussions with connections prior to the race it was felt
that Squanto would be able to settle in a mid-field position or slightly in advance, however, after riding
his mount positively in the early stages he was able to take up a more prominent position than
anticipated. He said that the gelding travelled comfortably in this position, however, did not respond to
his riding and was relatively disappointing in the manner which it finished off its race, particularly in the
straight. He said that in retrospect, his mount may not have been suited by being ridden so prominently
over the 1900m. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
Notabadharada – On jumping was crowded between Squanto and Time Raid, which shifted out.
