                                                                                                                                                      (alm)

RACE 1 – Sky Racing Active Handicap 1550m

Apollate – began awkwardly.  Raced keenly throughout the early and middle stages.

My Delight – began only fairly.

Stylebender – raced keenly in the early stages and near the 1100m was restrained from the heels of Dane Central.

Aphro Man – laid out rounding the home turn and near the 250m, had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of Apollate.  Aphro Man was then shifted to the outside of the heels of Apollate to continue into clear running.

Yangtze Rapids – when questioned regarding the gelding settling further forward than at its most recent starts, rider J McDonald explained that he was issued no specific instructions other than to have the gelding settle where comfortable.  He added that in the early stages, it became evident to him that he would be able to obtain a position trailing the leaders and he was able to obtain this position without having to overly pressure Yangtze Rapids.  He further added that the gelding travelled well throughout the early and middle stages and may not have been suited by the tight turning track and the Soft (6) conditions today.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  Trainer Mr C Waller advised that whilst he had expected Yangtze Rapids to be ridden in a more conservative manner, he was satisfied with the positioning of the gelding particularly in circumstances where it had begun well.   He added that Yangtze Rapids had pleased the stable coming into today's race and the stable had considered it a winning chance.  Mr Waller agreed with the assessment of J McDonald that the gelding would be better suited on a firmer surface particularly as it had run poorly on two occasions on rain affected going.

Rapids – rider H Bowman reported that after travelling well throughout the event, he was unable to offer any tangible explanation for the disappointing performance.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

RACE 2 – Pinatubo New To Darley Plate 1200m

Mascherata – bumped on jumping by Gundec, which shifted out.   A post race veterinary examination of Mascherata, which raced wide and without cover throughout the event, revealed the filly to be slow to recover.

Wolfburn – began only fairly.

Civil War – began only fairly and shortly afterwards was hampered by He's Purring, which shifted out.   From the outside barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Osman – began only fairly and from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Port Louis – began only fairly and then was hampered by Leen Fox, which shifted in.  Held up rounding the home turn.

Leen Fox – began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped Port Louis.

Billiondollarbaby – began awkwardly.

Gundec – began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped Mascherata.  Was held up rounding the home turn and then raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.

Alfano – began awkwardly.  Raced ungenerously when being shifted behind runners from its wide barrier in the early stages.

He's Purring – began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. When questioned regarding the performance, rider J Collett explained that the gelding failed to show the necessary speed in the early stages to obtain a forward position and as a consequence settled further back than he had anticipated.   He added when racing wide, the gelding was inclined to hang out rounding the home turn.  He also added that the gelding did not feel entirely comfortable in its action in the home straight and for this reason he desisted from continuing to pressure his mount over the final stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed He’s Purring to be lame (2/5) in the near foreleg.  Trainer Mr D Lane advised that He's Purring will now be spelled. Notwithstanding this advice, Mr Lane was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to He’s Purring having to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

RACE 3 – Yarraman Park Easter Yearlings Handicap 1200m

Bellevue Star – on jumping was bumped heavily by Zain’s Girl and as a result became unbalanced.  App C Rawiller stated that after the lead, the filly travelled well throughout the early and middle stages, however failed to respond to his riding in the home straight and weakened over the final 100m.   He added that in his opinion, Bellevue Star would take benefit from today's run.   A post race veterinary examination revealed Bellevue Star to be slow to recover.  The Stewards will follow up on the post race condition of Bellevue Star in the days subsequent.

Zain's Girl – began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped heavily with Bellevue Star.  Near the 700m blundered.  Near the 150m was obliged to alter course and then had some difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 100m.

Green Flash – began only fairly.

Orpheum – began only fairly and from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Raced keenly in the early stages.

El Buena – began only fairly.  Held up rounding the home turn and upon entering the home straight, and when attempting to obtain clear running to the outside of So Far Away, made slight contact with Wild Irish.

So Far Away – raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

Wild Irish – approaching the 900m was eased from the heels of Bellevue Star (App C Rawiller) when that runner shifted in when not clear.  App Rawiller was advised to exercise more care.  Near the 850m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Onchao (J Parr) which shifted in when not sufficiently clear.  J Parr was reprimanded and advised to provide sufficient clearance when shifting ground in future.  Approaching the 700m commenced to race keenly and after improving onto the heels of Onchao had to be restrained by its rider.  Held up momentarily rounding the home turn and when endeavouring to shift out to obtain clear running, forced Green Flash wider on the track.

Siege – held up rounding the home turn and until a point approaching the 100m whereby it was obliged to alter course to the inside of Onchao to obtain clear running.

RACE 4 – Davali Thoroughbreds Handicap 1200m

Pindarra’s Dream – slow to begin.

Leave Me Some – began only fairly.  Held up rounding the home turn and when endeavouring to obtain clear running to the outside of Fashchanel passing the 300m, made contact with Snippy Fox.

Sweeping Statement – began awkwardly and blundered shortly after the start.   From its wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Van Giz – from the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Grande Rumore – near the 250m was inconvenienced by Snippy Fox, which was taken out by Leave Me Some.

Fashchanel – when questioned regarding the performance, rider J McDonald stated that after travelling a short distance, he was of the view that he was going to be able to obtain a position with cover behind Snippy Fox, however when Grande Rumore maintained its position trailing Snippy Fox, rather than remaining wide, he elected to press forward and obtain a position outside the leader, Willowheart.  He added that bearing in mind the use he had to make of Fashchanel to cross and obtain a position outside the leader, Willowheart, he believed this to be the principal reason for the mare’s performance today.  He further added that in his view, Fashchanel may be better suited when able to obtain cover.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

RACE 5 – TAB Handicap 1200m

Altimeter – was a late scratching at 3.17pm when the gelding refused to load.  The Stewards ruled that all monies invested on Altimeter be refunded in full and that all successful wagers made prior to 3.17pm be subject to the following deductions in the face value of each ticket.

1st  Epic Dan               6 cents win, 4 cents place

2nd Ghostly                  4 cents place

3rd  Jailbreak               6 cents place

Trainer Mr R Litt was advised that Altimeter would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to its next race start.

Epic Dan – began only fairly.

Nerone – began only fairly. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider H Bowman stated that the gelding travelled well throughout the early and middle stages and rounding the home turn, he was confident his mount would finish its race off.  He added, however, that when placed under full pressure, the gelding failed to respond to his riding and he was disappointed with its finishing effort.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Jailbreak – began awkwardly.

Up Trumpz – began awkwardly and from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Was unable to be fully tested over the concluding stages when improving and awkwardly placed on the heels of Epic Dan.

Shibli – slow to begin.  When endeavouring to obtain clear running passing the 300m shifted out and bumped Shadow Crush.  App C Rawiller pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that approaching the 1000m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Shadow Crush which was taken in, which in turn caused Epic Dan to be taken in resulting in Shibli having to be steadied and lose its rightful running.  App Rawiller's permit to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Thursday, 15 April 2021 and to expire on Sunday, 25 April 2021 on which day he may ride again.

Sanctimonious – slow to begin and shortly after the start was steadied from the heels of Nerone, which shifted in.  Shifted out under pressure passing the 200m resulting in its rider having to stop riding and correct her mount.

Dalaalaat – rider L Magorrian reported that he was under pressure from as far out as the 600m and added that he was obliged to race wide rounding the home turn whereby the gelding failed to finish the race off as expected.  He noted that the gelding had not started in some four weeks and will take a fitness benefit from today's run.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

RACE 6 – Hyland Race Colours Handicap 1550m

Nicci’s Fling – Stewards permitted J McDonald to ride the filly half a kilogram over the allotted weight of 55kg.

Sound Of Cannons – slow to begin

Mr Gee – began only fairly.   When questioned regarding the performance, rider H Bowman stated that from the 600m, he was able to trail the favourite, Nicci’s Fling, however when attempting to maintain this position, Mr Gee was left flat foot and unable to quicken.  He added that Mr Gee was unable to finish the race off and proved disappointing. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. The Stewards will follow up on the post race condition of the gelding in the days subsequent.

Travest – approaching the 400m had to be eased when placed in restricted room to the inside of Savoury, which shifted in slightly.  Held up rounding the home turn.

Foxborough – when questioned regarding the tactics adopted in the middle stages and as to whether there was an opportunity to obtain a position with cover, App C Rawiller stated that he had been instructed to obtain a forward position and after riding aggressively in the early stages from a wide barrier, he then attempted to obtain a position behind Impi, however Foxborough commenced to race keenly.  He added that near the 900m, he again considered obtaining a position behind Impi, but he was unable to perform this manoeuvre as Savoury had held its position trailing Impi and he therefore elected to remain racing wide.   He added that from the 600m, the mare commenced to weaken and for this reason, when placed out of contention entering the home straight, he desisted from continuing to pressure his mount. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr J Sargent advised that Foxborough will now be spelled.  Notwithstanding this advice, Mr Sargent was advised that the mare will be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to its next race start.

Impi – rider G boss reported that the gelding was making an abnormal respiratory noise throughout the event.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr D O'Brien was advised, given the comments from rider G Boss, that a veterinary clearance, along with the results of an endoscopic examination, be provided prior to Impi barrier trialling to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

RACE 7 – XXXX Handicap 1550m

Luncies – began awkwardly.

Parry Sound – slow to begin.  From a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Near the 350m had to be steadied from the heels of Lackeen (R King) which shifted out slightly. R King was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Lackeen – began only fairly.  From the outside barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Held up rounding the home turn and over the concluding stages had some difficulty obtaining clear running.

Saigon – began only fairly.  Rounding the home turn, when attempting to shift out to obtain clear running, made contact with Milk Man on a couple of occasions.

Cliff’s Art – after travelling a short distance was eased out of the race by its rider H Bowman.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame (4/5) in the off hind leg.  Cliff’s Art was transported to Randwick Equine Centre for further assessment.  The matter was adjourned to allow Stewards to interview trainer Mr M Smith relative to the post race condition of Cliff’s Art whereby consideration will be given to what embargos are placed on the mare.

RACE 8 – Vinery Stud Handicap 1100m

Marway – trainer M Newnham, represented by Mr A Lau, was fined $200 under LR35(2) for the late declaration of R King as the rider of the gelding.  Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.  When questioned regarding the performance, rider R King stated that she was unable to obtain a forward position as the gelding failed to show sufficient speed to cross runners drawn to her inside.   She added that in her view this was the principal reason for the gelding failing to finish the race off and that the gelding is better suited when able to dictate terms.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Charge – slow to begin.  Passing the 800m commenced to race keenly and a short distance later had to be steadied after being crossed by All Cylinders (App C Rawiller) which shifted in and reduced the tempo slightly.   App Rawiller was advised to exercise more care.

Spencer – began awkwardly.

Beau Ideal – began awkwardly.  From a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.
