ALEGRON (RANDWICK 27 July, Heat 9)
(2g, Teofilo – Alegria. Trainer: James Cummings)
HANDSOME fellow, returning from holidays following two trials, both of the same nature. Easy third at Kembla on July 13, then pottered around near the tail behind JOURNALISM at Randwick this week. His fifth behind rising star CONVERGE in Randwick’s Fernhill Handicap (1600m) isn’t shabby for a four-start maiden.
TAB: $51 Victoria Derby

CHILL (RANDWICK 27 July, Heat 7)
(2f, Vancouver – Terrestria. Trainer: Anthony Cummings)
REARWARDS behind classy ANAMOE in the G1 ATC Inglis Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) last run. Yet to win after four juvenile starts, a Warwick Farm second being her best wrap so far. There was much to like about her fast-finishing third behind DIAMOND SOARS in their Tuesday trial – she made ground under her own steam.
TAB: $201 Golden Rose

ICEBATH (RANDWICK 27 July, Heat 1)
(4m, Sacred Falls – Fabulist. Trainer: Brad Widdup)
ABSOLUTELY loved the way she pinged the gates early in Tuesday’s trial. It’s often a beaut sign a horse has returned keen and fresh. Ultimately a neat fifth to impressive Golden Slipper hero STAY INSIDE. All of the classy brigade shaped up as expected here but this miss, second in a Doncaster and Golden Eagle, is due for a big win.
TAB: $26 Winx Stakes; $26 George Main Stakes; $26 Epsom Handicap; $15 The Invitation

(2c, I Am Invincible – Amanpour. Trainers: Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott)
WELL-named filly – her G1 winning mum bears the name of the famous CNN anchor. Gai also trained AMANPOUR and this nuggety speedball has won two and placed twice in four barrier trials. He’s yet to race and will know a fair bit about the caper after hurtling around ‘Headquarters’ through the week. Perhaps a little tired late so short courses appear his forte.
TAB: $101 Golden Rose; $101 Golden Eagle

MAZU (RANDWICK 27 July, Heat 8)
(2c, Maurice – Chatelaine. Trainers: Peter and Paul Snowden)
KICKED in straight away with a debut win at Canterbury last February, then placed in SHAQUERO’s Pago Pago Stakes. Trialled at Randwick and inclined to sweat up then overraced when a fighting second to promising IN THE CONGO. At the line he seemed to be travelling fractionally better and had previously strolled home with a Randwick heat on July 9, leading throughout.
TAB: $26 Golden Rose; $26 Caulfield Guineas

PRIVATE EYE (W FARM 23 July, Heat 7)
(3g, Al Maher – Confidential Queen. Trainer: Joe Pride)
THIS big boy also hurtled from the gates in a Warwick Farm trial last week. From the 800m start he was dragged back off the lead, settled four lengths fourth, then threw himself at two lesser performed leaders. Checked in third and the G2 Queensland Guineas winner can only enhance his nine start, six win record this Spring Carnival.
TAB: Epsom $26; Golden Eagle $15

(3g, Adelaide – Ooh La La. Trainer: Les Bridge)
PARKED off the lead and could have taken it down the straight had Kerrin McEvoy been serious. He finished second to DASHING STATEMENT in a 1045m heat. This three-race veteran is a maiden resuming after a winter’s spell. His two placings on home territory suggest he’s right up to breaking the duck fresh. With a few more wins possible, too.

VAN GOGH (RANDWICK 27 July, Heat 6)
(3g, Vancouver – Light Touch. Trainers: Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott)
ALL-the-way 1045m trial winner last Tuesday. In true stable style, Brenton Avdullah made every post a winner. This was his first trial of the campaign, so the operation is likely to trial him again. He won at Nowra and Goulburn during the summer and autumn and right up to metropolitan standard. Don’t confuse him with Aidan O’Brien’s VAN GOGH – a TAB Fixed $51 chance in the 2021 Melbourne Cup and $101 in the Arc de Triomphe.
