FAST, fresh two-year-old’s are now strutting their stuff all around the nation. We’re still in the early stages of their season and TONY BRASSEL has checked out some ripper triallers in NSW and Queensland.

Check out all the trials in the Catch Up section on the Sky Racing website or the Sky Racing Active app.

ASTROLOGER (Heat 10)
(2c, Star Turn- Fast ‘N’ Witty. Trainers: Peter and Paul Snowden)
FROM the family of ill-fated 2010 Golden Slipper winner CRYSTAL LILY. Strange to things early when last away, then railed to pounce on the leaders 100m out. The second part of his trial was superb. He’ll learn a lot.

ENTHAAR (Heat 5)
(2f, Written Tycoon – Final Agreement. Trainers: Ciaran Maher and David Eustace)
RECORDED the fastest figure of five 850m heats – 50 seconds flat - and flat-out does not describe her method in winning. A beautiful sort with a distinctive blaze, she popped onto the lead and James McDonald merely coaxed her home around five lengths clear. Half-brother TEXAS FOREVER led to win a Warwick Farm heat 24 hours later.

KALASHNIKOV (Heat 2)
(2c, Capitalist – Rough Ride. Trainers: Peter and Paul Snowden)
INVARIABLY a tremendous start to a stud career if a young sire gets classy juvenile winners. Case in point meteoric sire WRITTEN TYCOON and his son CAPITALIST, winner of the 2015 Breeders Plate, then Golden Slipper and Magic Millions. This one will do his first crop sire proud if a speedy Kensington trial win is a guide.

LITTLE MISS MAGIC (Heat 5)
(3f, Written Tycoon – Secret Doubt. Trainer: Bjorn Baker)
NEAT, cruisey second in an earlier trial before a fourth in the fast ENTHAAR heat over 850m at Kensington. Tardy at the launch then just strolled around in the middle of the field, without being tested out. This one had a bit up her sleeve for sure.

SHAQUERO (Heat 1 Gold Coast Sept 21)
(2c, Shalaa – Fimatino. Trainer: Chris Waller)
NEVER fully pushed out when taking his 900m Gold Coast heat last Monday. While his rivals were all revved along, this dark brown colt forged away for Luke Dittman. Another one by a first season sire in SHALAA, winner of two European G1’s, plus three G2’s – all over 1200m. Carries the RANGIRANGDOO and KOLDING white and blue colours.

STELLAR MAGIC (Heat 1 Doomben Sept 22)
(2f, Star Turn – Al’s Magic Miss. Trainer: Steve O’Dea)
DWELT from her wide gate, cruised rearwards, then made up five lengths when a close second in her 800m Doomben trial. Had Ben Thompson been a tad more vigorous this flashy miss would have won. Can go one better come raceday, especially if drawn okay.

VACCINE (Heat 3)
(2f, Not A Single Doubt – A Brilliant Idea. Trainers: Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott)
CLEVERLY named in more ways than one. Stalked the pace before seizing a needle-eye opening at Kensington, running about 0.5 seconds slower than ENTHAAR. Still impressive, as is her now sadly retired sire, also father to CLASSIQUE LEGEND, FARNAN, ANDERS and DOUBTLAND.

YANGARI (Heat 3 Doomben Sept 22)
(2c, Spirit Of Boom – Yarranabbe. Trainer: Rob Heathcote)
BIT of a hulk coming off a strong finishing second over Doomben’s 800m. Took a sit off two leaders, including the winner FURNACE ON FIRE. Looked gawky and lazy, yet switched on to gain significantly late in the piece. Classy Granddam BELLA SERATA won Black Type sprints at Flemington and Morphettville.
