The Jump Start

TAB’s ANDREW GEORGIOU covers the action coming up this weekend on the punt while dissecting everything that went right, and wrong, over the past few days.

PUNTERS landed some huge blows on the weekend with one of the standouts being a $30,0000 @ $5 bet on VERRY ELLEEGANT in the Caulfield Cup, netting that customer a fat $150,000 return. She was a horror result for TAB as punters big and small came for Chris Waller's mare. POWER SCHEME was sensationally backed in the first at Caulfield while ENDANGER ($4.20-$3.60) was a strong push all day. In Sydney, IT'S ME and CLASSIQUE LEGEND did serious damage in the Kossie and TAB Everest respectively.

UNFORTUNATELY for punters there were too many of these!

RAINBIEL and SILHOUETTE ($10-$3.9) were very costly in Melbourne as was ALFA ORO which was crunched into odds-on for the Caulfield Sprint. STAR OF THE SEAS and DEPRIVE were heavily backed favs at Randwick but couldn't get the job done for those taking the shorts and the multi players. PATHS OF GLORY ($4.20-$3.40) and SHE'S IDEEL carried big money in the St Leger but unfortunately it was off the mark.

Randwick's Les Bridge salutes the TAB Everest victory, picture

"I've been telling you for three months about this horse - how much of a start did you want?"
Trainer Les Bridge following Classique Legend's dominant TAB Everest win.

"I've loved him ever since I laid eyes on him."
Carmel Size on the TAB Everest winner.

"There's nothing much between the two horses at home (It's Me and FENDER) but on raceday she finds six to eight lengths."
Trainer Brett Cavanough after boom galloper It's Me won The Kosciuszko.

"With her weight, obviously it's going to be difficult and she's got to settle and do things right but the Caulfield Cup form is the best form."
Trainer Chris Waller on Verry Elleegant's chances in the Melbourne Cup.

SKY Racing's Lizzie Jelfs did the job once again for those following her picks of the yard on Saturday. Lizzie delivered Air Marshal in the TAB Highway at $8.50 while those hoping to 'get out' in the last were given BOMBASAY at double figures.

CLASSIQUE Legend's owner Bon Ho agreed to donate five percent of his winnings, over $300k, to the Australian Turf Club Foundation.

VERRY Elleegant went $17-$11 to win the Melbourne Cup following her success in the Caulfield Cup while she was also installed a $15 eq fav for next year's running of the 2400m classic. CALIFORNIA ZIMBOL slashed its quote for the Manikato Stakes in half while ALBARADO is $26-$11 for the Victoria Derby after winning the Caulfield Classic. And yes, Classique Legend is favourite for next year's Everest after TAB went up $6 about his chances in 2021.
