Spring news briefs

The jockey changes for upcoming spring races continues. Hard on the heels of Craig Williams replacing Michael Walker on Tagaloa for the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on October 10th after Walker had ridden Tagaloa in seven of his eight races, including winning the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes, comes a rider change for Aktau (GB).

Jye McNeil had ridden Mike Moroney's listed Mornington Cup winner in all five of Aktau's Australian starts but elected to ride Orderofthegarter (IRE) in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m). Orderofthecarter won last Saturday's Group 3 Naturalism Stakes and by winning the race securing a guaranteed place in the Cup on October 17th.

Orderofthecarter carried 56kg under Damen Oliver on Saturday and he was penalised 1kg for the win taking him to 51kg for both the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups. Aktau also has 51kg for the Caulfield Cup.

Virtue of his Mornington Cup win Aktau is also in the Cup field. Daniel Moor has now secured the ride even though he rides Orderofthegarter in track work at Flemington. Moor, who returned to Victoria from Singapore due to the Covid-19 shutdown of racing at Kranji earlier in the year, has had one previous ride in the Caulfield Cup when 14th on Irish Darling in the 2004 renewal.

In other news from Sydney it has been confirmed that Moroney has booked Tommy Berry to ride his Group 1 winner Tofane (NZ) in the $15m, TAB Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 17th.
