The Peter & Paul Snowden stable saddled up two runners for the $200,000, Listed, GDSC Ramornie Handicap (1200m) at Grafton and captured the lion's share of the prizemoney when Signore Fox (by Exceed And Excel) defeated a quality field of winter sprinters that included stable-companion Hightail.
Considered the lesser chance of winning of the Snowden-stable duo, Signore Fox went to post a 20/1 chance for a race in which stable companion Hightail headed the market as a $3.60 favourite.
Despite the difference in their odds, it was Signore Fox who added the coveted Ramornie to his winning record with his third black-type victory in 25 starts.
Caught behind a wall of horses entering the straight, Signore Fox displayed a fair degree of courage to burst through a narrow gap between runners in the closing stages.
The 4-year-old son of Exceed And Excel ended proving to be an impressive winner of the NSW Country Racing feature, scoring by a half-length from Haunted (by Lonhro) in second, with Jonker (by Spirit of Boom) proving to be third across the line.
Favourite Hightail never seemed to pick-up in the straight after being caught wide around the home turn and could only finish 8th of the 14 horse field.
Peter & Paul Snowden were winning the Ramornie for the second time in the past four renewals of the race after also saddling-up up Calanda to victory in 2017.
Peter Snowden has now won the Grafton feature on four occasions, having also trained Jerezana (2011) and Pinwheel (2010) to victory when in charge of the Godolphin racing stable.
Signore Fox's race record now reads eight 1sts and two 2nds for earnings of $483,385. His previous wins in stakes company were the Listed ATC Razor Sharp Handicap at Randwick last December and the Listed BRC Daybreak Lover at Eagle Farm in June 2019.
Signore Fox is raced by Mr G J Stambe, Mr M Stambe & Mr F Stambe.
Official margins of the race were a Half-length by a Long Neck.
Winning time was a fairly swift 1m08.70s on a Soft 5 (last 600m in 34.05s).
SPs on the first three were $20.00, $8.50 and $18.00 respectively.
