RACE 1 – TAB Highway Class 3 Handicap 1500m

Raay Of Dreams– stable representative Mr C Hall-Antonio was fined $200 under LR35(2) for failing to declare B Stower as the rider of the mare by the prescribed time.

Impactful– trainer Mr C Morgan was fined $200 under LR35(2) for failing to declare App D Gibbons as the rider of the gelding by the prescribed time.  Began only fairly and then shortly after the start was bumped by Hokahey, which shifted in.

Steplee– slow to begin.  From a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.

The Dramatist– on jumping shifted out and bumped Majestic Wings.  Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the race.  Approaching the 1000m was carried wider by Sungblue which shifted out abruptly whilst overracing when awkwardly placed on the heels of Raay Of Dreams.  App R Jones stated that although the gelding was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to respond to his riding in the straight, he felt that the horse's chances were hindered mid-race by Sungblue, which when overracing shifted out and forced The Dramatist wider.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Hokahey– shortly after the start shifted in and bumped Impactful.

Majestic Wings– shortly after jumping had to be steadied when crowded between The Dramatist and Running Bear.   From a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Cross Step– from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Sungblue– overraced in the middle stages and the near 1000m shifted out abruptly when awkwardly placed on the heels of Raay Of Dreams.

Keen Contributer– rider J Ford reported that the mare was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to close off in the straight, albeit from the inside alley he was forced to remain racing close to the inside which appeared to be the inferior ground.  He said also that Keen Contributor's performance may have been impacted by its pre-race manners with the mare being quite stirred up behind the barriers.  A post race veterinary examination revealed Keen Contributor to be coughing.  Trainer Mr S Singleton was advised that a veterinary clearance, including the results of an endoscopic examination, must be provided prior to the mare being permitted to the barrier trial or race again.

RACE 2 – Midway Benchmark 72 Handicap 1700m

Stylebender– shifted its near fore plate in the mounting enclosure which had to be re-plated.  Stylebender was examined behind the barriers by the Club's veterinary officer and deemed fit to start.  Slow to begin.  Inside the final 100m was eased when racing in restricted room between Real Peace and Charity Spirit which shifted out marginally.

Always Sure– slow to begin.

Sepulchre– began awkwardly. From a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Outlook– on jumping shifted out and bumped Dr Evil.

Dr Evil– shortly after the start was bumped by Outlook which shifted out.  From a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.  When questioned, regarding his riding from the 600m, App R Jones explained that he envisaged that he would be able to shift wider passing the 600m and follow Real Peace, however when Achira was racing to his outside, he was unable to do so and as a result was held up for some distance rounding the home turn.  He added that when able to secure clear running approaching the 300m, the gelding finished the race off well.  When further questioned if there was an opportunity to shift to the inside on straightening, he reported that in his opinion, the inside section of track was inferior and for this reason he elected to shift out.

Achira– from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Sapphires Son– raced three wide and without cover for the majority of the event.  Trainer Mr T Bartley reported that the gelding will now be spelled.

RACE 3 – Pages Event Hire Benchmark 78 Handicap 2200m

Penelope Cruise– slow to begin.  R Dolan accidentally dropped his whip passing the 250m.

Avion Fury– when questioned in relation to Avion Fury settling further forward, App T Sherry explained that he had been instructed to ride the gelding in a midfield position, however after beginning well from the outside barrier, when caught wide, he allowed his mount to stride forward. He added shortly after, when racing outside the leader, Arabolini, his mount commenced to overrace and refused to settle and as a result settled further forward than intended.  He further added whilst he had hoped to be able to sit off the leader, Arabolini, but due to Avion Fury overracing badly after leaving the 1900m, he was obliged to allow the gelding to stride forward into the outright lead.  When questioned, trainer Mr I Finn confirmed that he had instructed App T Sherry to ride Avion Fury near midfield and it was not anticipated that the horse would be racing so far in a forward position.

Arabolini– App T Schiller reported that when challenged for the lead by Avion Fury after leaving the straight on the first occasion, he felt that the tempo was too strong for Arabolini to be able to sustain, therefore he allowed Avion Fury to cross his mount.  He said when Avion Fury came under pressure at the 600m to maintain the lead, he allowed Arabolini to improve forward of that horse, however Arabolini quickly came under pressure and was one paced over the final 200m.   A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Ironic Miss– a post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame (3/5) in the off foreleg.  Trainer Mr R Ollerton was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to Ironic Miss being permitted to barrier trial or race again.

RACE 4 – Vinery Woodlands Stakes 1100m

Sweet Mercy– slow to begin.

Lady Harlem– slow to begin and then shortly after was bumped by Luna Rocks which shifted in.

Luna Rocks– jumped awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with Lady Harlem.  K Latham reported that after beginning awkwardly shortly after the start, he was awkwardly placed on the heels of Acappella Sun and as a result settled further back than intended.  The fact that Luna Rocks was unable to settle in the leading division had in his view impacted on the filly's performance.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Mills– shortly after jumping, bumped Deep Expectation.  Hung out from the 500m and approaching the 300m shifted out abruptly when awkwardly placed on the heels of Okami Miss.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Deep Expectation– shortly after jumping was bumped by Mills.

Capital Elle– from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Controlocracy– from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Okami Miss– passing the 800m blundered.

Soaring Ambition– passing the 700m was eased when racing tight to the inside of Laroupe which shifted in when racing greenly.  C Schofield reported that Soaring Ambition did not stretch out comfortably at any stage of the race and as the filly did not show any response to his riding in the early part of the straight, he eased it down over the latter stages when out of contention.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities other than the filly lost its near fore plate.

RACE 5 – Westpac Rescue Helicopter 3&4yo Benchmark 72 Handicap 1300m

Dynamic Impact– slow to begin.

Divine Breath– slow to begin.

Go Troppo– from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Casino Seventeen– from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  When questioned in relation to his riding in the early stages, App J Searle explained that he was instructed to ride his mount in a rearward position.  He said that after beginning reasonably well, and when caught wide, he elected to restrain his mount to comply with his instructions, however when being continually restrained in the early stages, Casino Seventeen got its head up and lost ground and as a result settled at the rear of the field.  App J Searle concurred with Stewards that after restraining his mount, he should have remained racing to the outside of Dynamic Impact rather than continuing to restrain his mount and losing further ground.

And We Danced– shortly after the start was bumped by Astero, which shifted in.

Astero– shortly after the start shifted in and bumped And We Danced.

Different Strokes– slow to begin.  From a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.  H Bowman stated that the gelding did not stretch out comfortably at any stage of the race and was disappointing.   He added that when the gelding was out of contention, he did not test it over the final 100m.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  Stewards will follow up on the post race condition of Different Strokes in the days subsequent.

Cotehele– raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Sacrimony– when questioned B Avdulla stated that as advised to Stewards, he was instructed to ride the gelding in a more prominent position today. He said that Sacrimony began extremely well and enjoyed a comfortable run behind the leader.  He said, however, that he was at a loss to explain the disappointing manner in which Sacrimony responded to his riding in the straight.  He said the only thought he could offer is that the gelding may perform at its best when ridden conservatively when fresh.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  Stewards will follow up on the post race condition of Sacrimony in the days subsequent.

RACE 6 – Coolmore Denise's Joy Stakes 1100m

Sonnet Star– missed the start (2L).

Comrade Rosa– slow to begin.  From a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Stella Magic– slow to begin.

Zetarita– from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Flying Evelyn– from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Von Trapp– was held up for clear running for a short distance approaching the 200m.

Mallory– approaching the 100m was eased when awkwardly placed on the heels of Sky Command which was carried in slightly by A Very Fine Red which shifted in.  J Parr stated that the filly did not show sufficient speed to be racing in a more forward position. He said that Mallory was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to respond to his riding in the straight.

Authentic Jewel– near the 200m, when laying in, was momentarily inconvenienced by I Am Me which shifted out marginally.  J Ford reported that the filly travelled comfortably behind the leaders and he was anticipating that it would be competitive from that position.  He said Authentic Jewel was most disappointing in the manner in which it failed to respond to his riding and weakened in the straight.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be slow to recover with minor lacerations to the off-fore and off-hind fetlocks and to have lost its near fore plate.

Sky Command– B Avdulla reported that Sky Command, as opposed to its most recent trial where the filly performed well, did not show sufficient speed to lead today and soon came under pressure upon straightening, gave ground and was disappointing. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame (2/5) in the off foreleg.  Co-trainer Mr S Alexiou was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to Sky Command being permitted to barrier trial and race again.

RACE 7 – Scone Equine Hospital Luskin Star Stakes 1300m

Impasse– slow to begin.  From a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Flying Crazy– shortly after the start became crowded and was buffeted between Impasse, which shifted in, and Charmmebaby, which shifted out.

True Detective– began awkwardly.

Andermatt– raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.  When questioned, R King stated that Andermatt, which was attempting 1300m for the first time today, was left racing wide and without cover approaching the first turn and after racing keenly in that position was not able to quicken as expected in the straight and was one paced to the line.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stable representative Mr D Beadman concurred with R King in that the gelding travelled too keenly when racing without cover.

Bandersnatch– passing the 1100m was momentarily tightened for room when awkwardly placed inside the heels of True Detective, which after initially shifting in and away from Much Much Better (App R Jones), and was then steadied to avoid the heels of that runner, which shifted in when not clear.  App Jones was reprimanded under AR131(a).  B Avdulla reported that Bandersnatch was never travelling comfortably and then did not respond to his riding in the straight and when the horse was out of contention, he did not test it over the latter stages.  He said whilst in the past Bandersnatch has displayed some versatility on various racing surfaces, the gelding did not appear to him to be comfortable on the track today.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

RACE 8 – Arrowfield Dark Jewel Classic 1400m

Cliff’s Art– trainer Mr M Smith was fined $200 under LR35(2) for failing to declare App T Sherry as the rider of the mare by the prescribed time [LR35(2)].

Papali– slow to begin.  From a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Wandabaa– from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Never Talk– from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Approaching the 100m was awkwardly placed on the heels of Wandabaa and shifted to that runner's inside to continue into clear running.

Amica– slow to begin.

Nicci's Fling– shortly after the start was bumped by Brookspire, which shifted in.  Had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight.

Brookspire– shortly after the start shifted in and bumped Nicci's Fling.  Rider J Ford reported that the mare once again raced too aggressively after settling outside the lead and consequently compounded in the straight.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame (2/5) in the off foreleg.   Stable representative Mr C Duckworth was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to Brookspire being permitted to barrier trial or race again.

Fashanel– a post race veterinary examination of Fashanel, which weakened after racing wide and without cover, revealed no abnormalities.

Exotic Ruby– R King reported that although obliged to race three wide, the mare had cover throughout the race.  She added that Exotic Ruby raced flat. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  Trainer Mr B Baker said the mare had worked well since its last win at Hawkesbury and the stable expected it to again be competitive today.   Mr Baker was at a loss to explain the mare's performance and undertook to report back if anything came to light which might explain Exotic Ruby’s disappointing performance.

Majestic Shot– R Dolan reported that after beginning particularly well from the inside barrier, the mare was able to take up a leading position and travelled comfortably throughout, however was further forward than intended.

Le Gai Soleil– when questioned, K McEvoy explained that he had been instructed to attempt to shift wider on the track in the home straight as the mare is reluctant to race inside of horses.  He said that the mare settled back in the field close to the rail, however was under pressure prior to straightening and as he was of the belief that the mare was not travelling well enough to shift wider, he elected to remain racing close to the fence where the mare finished off fairly. He added that in his opinion, Le Gail Soleil may be better suited over further distances.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  Trainer Mr J O'Shea confirmed that the connections are of the belief that the mare performs best when shifted to the outside of runners.

RACE 9 – Emirates Park Ortensia Stakes 1100m

Lord Olympus– slow to begin.

Surreal Step– slow to begin.  From a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Held up from the 300m to approaching the 100m.

Vulpine– reared as the start was effected and lost ground.

Roheryn– began awkwardly.   J Collett reported that despite being ridden along throughout the early stages, the gelding did not stretch out and became detached from the field. J Collett said that Roheryn did give some response when tested in the straight and ran home fairly.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Eleven Eleven– from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  App T Sherry, rider of Lord Olympus, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that passing the 300m, he allowed his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of Eleven Eleven which was carried out and had to be checked when awkwardly placed on the heels of Ranges.  App Sherry’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Tuesday, 24 May 2022 and to resume on Friday, 27 May 2022.  In assessing penalty, Stewards considered App Sherry’s good recent record under this rule.

Malkovich– R King stated that Malkovich performs best when able to lead unchallenged.  She added that due to being pressured initially by Cassy’s Sister and then by Mo’s Crown in the middle stages of the race, Malkovich was a beaten horse on straightening and gave ground. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

The Bopper– K McEvoy reported that the gelding blundered in the soft going near the 800m and then after being left racing wide and without cover, gave ground in the straight.   He said that The Bopper was not suited by the soft racing surface and would be better suited on a firmer track.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

RACE 10 – Yarraman Park Benchmark 78 Handicap 1100m

Toto– underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers after getting its near hind leg up on the running board for a short period of time and was passed fit to start.  Toto was subsequently declared a late scratching at 4.34pm after refusing to load.  The Stewards ruled that all monies invested on Toto be refunded in full and that all successful wagers made prior to 3.34pm be subject to the following deductions in the face value of each ticket.

1st   Athelric                                       2 cents win, 2 cents place

2nd  American President                    3 cents place

3rd   Hulk                                            4 cents place

Trainer Mr T Howlett was advised that Toto must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before being permitted to race again.

Hulk– slow to begin.  After initially shifting out to improve on straightening, was held up for clear running for some distance and as a result was shifted back to the inside to continue into clear running approaching the 200m.  Over the final few strides was awkwardly placed inside the heels of American President  and went to the finish without being fully tested.

Fastconi– slow to begin.  Inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.

Kordia– from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.
