Hawkesbury Racecourse 13 February 2024

Race 4: XXXX Gold Maiden Plate 1400m:

Real Peaky – Trainer Ms K Outtrim subsequently reported that Real Peaky sustained a small tear to its near hind tendon and is currently undergoing veterinary treatment. Ms Outtrim was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Real Peaky being permitted to trial/race again.

 

Canterbury Park Racecourse 16 February 2024

Race 2: Drinkwise Plate 1250m:

Gaylord – Stable representative Mr C McCollagh subsequently reported that Gaylord pulled up satisfactorily and could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance. He further advised it is the stable’s intention to continue with its current preparation as well as stepping it up in distance.

 

Race 5: Godolphin Lifetime Care Handicap 1250m:

Manwe – Trainer Mr A Cummings advised that Manwe pulled up satisfactorily and could offer no explanation for the colt’s performance. Mr Cummings advised it is his intention to continue with the colt’s current preparation.

Race 8: Master Builders Association Conditional Benchmark 68 Handicap 1200m:

Tayla’s One – Trainer Mr G Milligan advised that Tayla's One pulled up satisfactorily and it is the intention to continue with the mare’s current preparation.

Race 8: Tab Light Fingers Stakes 1200m (Group 2):

Mumbai Muse – A full veterinary assessment of Mumbai Muse on Sunday 18 February 2024 failed to detect any issue which may have explained the filly’s change of action which prompted T Berry to ease Mumbai Muse down in the home straight. Trainer Mr M Freedman was advised that Mumbai Muse would be required to trial satisfactorily before being cleared to race again. On Thursday 22 February 2024 Mumbai Muse trialled at Royal Randwick when again ridden by T Berry who reported to Stewards that the filly trialled strongly and strode out comfortably. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Accordingly, Stewards ruled Mumbai Muse would be cleared to resume racing.

RACE 1: Midway Handicap 1500m:

Elettrica – Co-trainer Mr R Freeman was fined the sum of $200 under LR35(2) for failing to declare rider App A McLucas by the prescribed time.

 

Queenmaker – Raced wide and without cover throughout for the majority of the event.

 

Mountain Guest – On jumping was bumped by Cuban Granchico. Had difficulty obtaining clear running prior to the 200m.

 

Pharoah’s Reign – T Clark reported that after racing in an on-pace position, Pharoah's Reign initially responded to his riding, however, over the final 200m gave ground and raced flat. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

 

Dr Evil – From the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the 200m was briefly held up when awkwardly placed at the heels of Queenmaker.

 

Decadent Tale – Slow to begin.

 

Glad You Think So – App M Bourke reported that as notified to Stewards she was instructed to ride Glad You Think So in a more forward position. She added after beginning only fairly, Glad You Think So was crowded for room between Leandra and Star Impact which shifted in and as consequence lost ground. She said that due to this interference Glad You Think So settled behind mid-field. She added that the colt travelled comfortably throughout the early and middle stages however when the tempo increased inside the 600m Glad You Think So came under pressure, did not respond to her riding and raced flat. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr J Sargent undertook to report back to Stewards on the post-race condition of the colt. He added that it will be his intention to step Glad You Think So up in distance for its next race start.

 

Irish Kisses – Held up for clear running in the early part of the straight.

 

Cuban Granchico – Shifted in on jumping and bumped Mountain Guest.

 

Dimaggio – Raced very wide and without cover from the 1000m.  

 

Star Impact – Shortly after the start shifted in and away from Smart Legend and made contact with Glad You Think So.

 

RACE 2: TAB Highway Handicap 1400m:

Noisy Boy – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a superficial laceration to the off-hind fetlock.

 

Atmospheric Rock – From the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

 

Rapbidash – Passing the 200m raced in restricted room between Sharp Shock and Palazzo Prince.

 

Sharp Shock – App J Stanley rider of the second placegetter Sharp Shockpleaded guilty to being in breach of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for having used his whip on 12 occasions prior to the 100m, 7 more than is permitted. Bearing in mind the nature of the offence and that this was App Stanley’s sixth whip related offence in the last 12 months, his permit to ride in races was suspended to a period to commence on Wednesday 28 February 2024 and to expire on Wednesday 14 March 2024 on which day he may ride.

 

Stormy Witness – Bumped on jumping with Airliner. Stormy Witnessthen shifted out and made contact with Palazzo Prince.

 

Airliner – Began awkwardly. 

 

Palazzo Prince – Bumped on jumping by Stormy Witness.

 

Miss Stalwart – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Passing the 200m was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of Sharp Shock (App J Stanley) which shifted in under pressure. J Stanley was told he would be expected to stop riding and straighten in similar circumstances.

 

Haysiri – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.

 

Vinolass – T Schiller reported that the mare travelled comfortably in the box seat, and he was surprised by the manner in which it gave groundin the straight. He said he could offer no explanation for Vinolass’ disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be slow to recover.

 

RACE 3: Queen Bee Project Sprint 1100m:

Bandi’s Boy – The horse which was reported to have sustained a wound to the inside of the offside hock in a float incident on 9 February 2024 was examined by the Club’s Veterinarian Officer and passed as being fit to start. When making ground approaching the 100m was disappointed for a run between Ballroom Bella and Xtravagant Star which shifted out slightly which resulted in Bandi’s Boy having to be directed to the inside of Xtravagant Star to continue improving.

 

Shezanalister – When questioned App Z Lloyd stated that as advised to Stewards his instructions were to ride the filly in a more forward position which resulted in Shezanalister obtaining the early lead. He added that as a consequence of the fast pace set through the middle stages, when Dipsy Doodle was over racing in advance of his mount, Shezanalister immediately came under heavy pressure soon after straightening. He said that Shezanalister did not appear to stretch out comfortably particularly over the final 200m and when out of contention for the placings he did not ride the horse out to the finish. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stable representative Mr L Hilton said that after having some use made of it to lead the filly was then unable to sustain the pressure it received mid-race from Dipsy Doodle. He advised that the stable intends to send Shezanalister for a spell.

 

Xtravagant Star – On jumping was bumped by Epic Proportions which shifted in.

 

Dipsy Doodle – J McDonald was permitted to ride the filly ½kg over its allotted weight of 55kg. When questioned, J McDonald stated when positioned outside the leader Shezanalister from the 800m, Dipsy Doodle commenced to overrace and refused to settle. He added despite his best endeavours to settle Dipsy Doodle the filly improved to be racing in advance of Shezanalister and due to the aggressive manner in which it raced in the middle stages, Dipsy Doodle was left without a finishing effort in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

 

Smiling Prophet – A post-race veterinary examination of Smiling Prophet which trailed off revealed no abnormalities.

 

Ballroom Bella – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

 

Epic Proportions – Shifted in on jumping and made contact with Xtravagant Star.

 

RACE 4: TAB Silver Slipper Stakes 1100m (Group 2):

Embassy – Slow to begin.

 

Erno’s Cube – Hampered on jumping by Gai's Artist which shifted in.

 

Celerity – Began only fairly. Raced keenly through the early and middle stages and refused to settle.

 

RACE 5: Parramatta Cup 1900m (Listed):

Explosive Jack – Crowded on jumping by Canberra Legend which shifted in.

 

Kalapour – Hampered on jumping by Zennzella which shifted out.

 

Diamil – J McDonald reported that whilst the horse was one-paced in the straight and slightly disappointing, he felt that the gelding may have been ridden to close to the lead. He said that, in his view, the horse would be better ridden more conservatively.

 

Stroke Of Luck – From the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Rounding the home turn, went amiss and was eased out of the race. The Club’s Veterinarian Officer reported that Stroke Of Luckwas found to have sustained bilateral sesamoid fractures to the off foreleg and was euthanised on humane grounds.

 

More Felons – When briefly held up was directed to the inside of Manzoice and Kalapour near the 300m to obtain clear running.

 

Love Tap – Slow to begin. Shortly after the start was steadied when crowded between Explosive Jack which was taken in by Canberra Legend and Kalapour which was taken out by Zennzella.

 

Canberra Legend – Raced wide and without coverthroughout the event.

 

RACE 6: Yarraman Park Handicap 1400m:

Welwal – Began awkwardly.

 

Kinloch – Slow to begin and from a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

 

Blondeau – the gelding which sustained an abrasion to its near side hip, was examined by the Club’s Veterinarian Officer and deemed suitable to start. From the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. T Clark reported the horse did not appear to stretch out comfortably throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame (1/5) in the near foreleg. Trainer Mr C Waller was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Blondeau being permitted to barrier trial or race again.

 

Robusto – J McDonald was permitted to ride the gelding ½kg over its allotted weight of 55kg. Raced wide and without cover from the 1000m.

 

Vreneli – App A McLucas stated that the gelding was disappointing in the manner in which it weakened in the straight, however, she added the horse would derive natural benefit from today’s race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame (1/5) in the near foreleg. Co-trainer Mr A Bott was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Vreneli being permitted to race or barrier trial again.

 

Marquess – App M Bourke (Palmetto) was reprimanded for failing to stop riding and straighten her mount when it shifted out across the running of Marquess approaching the 100m, resulting in Marquessbeing placed in restricted room between Palmetto and Welwal.

 

Premise – Shifted out on jumping and bumped Ucalledit.

 

RACE 7: Kia Millie Fox Stakes 1300m (Group 2):

Zougotcha – Shifted out on jumping and bumped Diamond Dealer.

 

Madame Pommery – The mare which became fractious after being loaded into the barrier, was examined by the Club’s Veterinarian Officer and deemed suitable to start.

 

Startantes – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have sustained a laceration to the off-hind cannon.

 

Renaissance Woman – J Parr was permitted to ride the mare ½kg over its allotted weight of 55.5kg.

 

Argentia – From the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

 

Lekvarte – Began only fairly and from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

 

Diamond Dealer – T Sherry reported that it was his intention to settle in a prominent position however after beginning awkwardly and then being crowded by Zougotcha, Diamond Dealer failed to muster any early speed and settled further back in the field where it then tended to overrace wearing blinkers for the first time.

 

Howgoodareyou – Began only fairly. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare which weakened in the straight revealed no abnormalities.

 

RACE 8: Precise Air Hobartville Stakes 1400m (Group 2):

Tom Kitten – After making contact with Ceolwulf approaching the 1000m became unbalanced and then was steadied to take a trailing position behind Flying Trapeze. Approaching and passing the 300m was inconvenienced when racing in restricted room between Raf Attack and Celestial Legend which was being directed out into clear running.

 

Encap – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

 

Ganbare – T Clark dropped his whip near the 300m.

 

Raf Attack – R Bayliss stated that from the outside barrier he intended to ride the horse where comfortable as it has a tendency to over-race. He said along the back straight Raf Attack raced aggressively when caught wide, so he endeavoured to obtain cover behind midfield rather than try to make ground toward the leading division, bearing in mind the horse was first up. He added due to the moderate tempo, Raf Attack remained wide and without cover and as a result of the tough run it endured, was not able to close off in the home straight.

 

Heman – Approaching the 1200m was crowded for room inside Ceolwulf (S Clipperton) which shifted in. S Clipperton was told to provide more clearance when shifting ground.

 

Celestial Legend – Bumped with Ceolwulf on jumping.,

 

Ceolwulf – Bumped with Celestial Legend on jumping.

 

Café Millenium – Began only fairly.Approaching the 1200m became unbalanced when bumped on several occasions by Heman which was crowded inside Ceolwulf.

 

Race 9: Chandon Handicap 1100m:

Derry Grove – On jumping was crowded for room inside Renosu. 

 

Red Card – Raced keenly when being steadied approaching the first turn.

 

Key Largo – Began awkwardly and then was inconvenienced by Our Bellagio Miss which shifted in. Approaching the finishing line was steadied when crowded for room between Our Bellagio Miss, which was taken in by Derry Grove (N Rawiller) and Quick Tempo, which was taken out by Frilled (K McEvoy). K McEvoy and N Rawiller were both reprimanded for contributing to the crowding to both Key Largo and Our Bellagio Miss.

 

Renosu – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

 

Libertad – From the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination of Libertad, which was eased out of the race from the 200m, revealed the colt to be displaying cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer Ms A Neasham was advised of Racing Australia’s Code of Practice under AR88(B)(2)(b).

 

Mabel – Rounding the home turn was held up and unable to improve and after passing the 400m was directed out across the heels of runners in front to obtain clear running.

 

Shelby Sixtysix – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a small abrasion to its off-hind fetlock. 

 

Frilled – When questioned K McEvoy stated that Frilled, which can be fractious in the barriers, did not begin as well as expected and was crossed by Renosu, which showed superior speed to the first turn. He said that he would have been content to sit off Renosu, however, Frilled commenced to race fiercely and would not settle which resulted in Frilled improving to be racing in advance of Renosu.

 

Rainbiel – From the outside barrier was steadied and shifted behind the runners shortly after the start.

 

Our Bellagio Miss – Approaching the finishing line was steadied when crowded for room between Derry Grove (N Rawiller) which shifted in and Key Largo, which was taken out by Quick Tempo, which in turn was taken out by Frilled (K McEvoy). K McEvoy and N Rawiller were both reprimanded for contributing to the crowding to both Our Bellagio Miss and Key Largo.

 

Race 10: Kia Ora Stud Handicap 1300m:

High Blue Sea – B Prebble reported that the horse travelled comfortably behind the leaders, however, when placed under pressure in the straight did not let down and did not appear to be comfortable in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Co-trainer Mr G Ryan stated that the only explanation he could offer was that the horse may not have appreciated the Soft (6) racing surface. Stewards will follow up on the post-race condition of the gelding in the days subsequent.

 

Starman – Bumped with Romeo’s Choice on jumping. Near the 800m, when racing keenly became awkwardly placed near the heels of High Blue Sea which was being steadied to allow True Crime to cross.

 

Dakota Vroom – Slow to begin. T Berry reported that the mare was one paced when under pressure in the home straight and raced below expectations. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards will follow up on the post-race condition of the mare.

 

Rupertaar – Passing the 200m was momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed outside French Bonnet, which shifted out under pressure.

 

Rome’s Choice – Trainer R Litt was fined the sum of $100 under LR35(2) for failing to declare rider R Bayliss by the prescribed time.Bumped with Starman on jumping. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

 

Royal Charge – Approaching the 200m was hampered when obliged to shift out away from Kintyre, which shifted out when bumped by Acapella Sun (J Ford) which shifted out around the heels of Romeo’s Choice. J Ford was reprimanded for the abrupt manner in which he shifted out across heels.

 

Kintyre – Was bumped by Acappella Sun which shifted out around the heels of Romeo’s Choice to obtain clear running.

 

General:

Summary of whip use:

Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR132(7)(a)(ii). Bearing in mind the totality of whip use, no action was taken.

Race 1 D Panya (Danish Prince) 7 strikes prior to the 100m.
Race 2 N Rawiller (Belvedere Boys) 6 strikes prior to the 100m.
Race 4 N Rawiller (Espionage) 6 strikes prior to the 100m.
Race 5 T Sheery (Almania) 6 strikes prior to the 100m.
Race 5 B Prebble (Bold Mac) 8 strikes prior to the 100m.
Race 6 App Z Lloyd (Marquess) 6 strikes prior to the 100m.

Race 8: Tom Kitten, Encap(2), Celestial Legend(2), Fukubana, Les Vampires.

Race 9: Red Card(2), Quick Tempo, Frilled, Our Bellagio Miss, Omni Man.

Race 10: French Bonnet, High Blue Sea, Gently Rolled(2), Starman.
