RACE 2:  Turangga Farm Woodlands Stakes (Listed) 1100m

When questioned, D McLellan stated that, after being slow to begin, he rode the filly along to make up lost ground and settle in a midfield position.  He said, however, that approaching the 800m the filly commenced to travel keenly and near the 700m made contact with the running rail.  He added that Tidal Impact continued to race keenly approaching the home turn, however, when a run presented at the entrance to the straight, the filly did not respond and weakened from that point.  He concluded by saying that Tidal Impact, which was having only its second race start, did not appear to appreciate the experience of racing amongst horses.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Sonnet Star – After beginning awkwardly, was steadied and lost further ground due to Xtremetime shifting in at the start.  When questioned, T Berry stated that it was intended for Sonnet Star to be ridden slightly forward of midfield if possible.  He said, however, after beginning awkwardly and striking interference at the start, the filly settled at the rear of the field.  He added, after initially racing to the outside of Headliner prior to the 600m, he elected to steady his mount and endeavoured to improve to the inside of that runner, which remained racing away from the rail.  He further stated that Sonnet Star then made good ground rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight, when placed under pressure, however its run ended over the final 100m.

Russbuss – R Bayliss (Ballistic Lover) pleaded guilty to a charge under AR131(a) in that approaching the first turn near the 900m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Russbuss, resulting in that filly losing its rightful running and being severely hampered.  R Bayliss’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday, 23 May 2021 and to expire on Thursday, 3 June 2021 on which day he may ride.  Near the 700m was steadied when momentarily crowded for room inside Miss Divine Em (App. T Hope).  Whilst Stewards accepted that Miss Devine Em commenced to lay in at this stage of the race, App. T Hope was nonetheless severely reprimanded for failing to make more effort than she did on this occasion to prevent her mount from shifting ground.
