Remarque out of further spring racing

Racing NSW stewards' on Monday advised that co-trainer Michael Hawkes had reported to them that three-year-old Snitzel colt Remarque will undergo tie-back surgery in the coming week and will not race again during the Sydney Spring Carnival.

Remarque raced in last Saturday's Group 1 Golden Rose over 1400m at Rosehill and after being second at the 400m was eased out of the race by Hugh Bowman. The stewards report stated that an examination of Remarque after the race revealed a poor recovery and abnormal respiratory noise. An endoscopic examination has revealed an upper respiratory abnormality that will necessitate the surgery.

Remarque was third in the Group 2 The Run To The Rose over 1200m at Kembla Grange on September 11th leading into the Golden Rose. He was at $26.00 with TAB for the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on October 9th.
